Hi folks, quite new to the owners club, as you can see from my user name I am from Hartlepool, I am using a 1989 xj600 pre diversion comuting 80-100 miles per day and have used the bike in all weathers with out fault the bike show nearly 70,000 of which i have done 40,000+ in the last 3 years. Last month it lost cylinders 1 and 4 having investigated the ignition system the fault was traced to the ignitor unit, could not get one from any dismantlers and yamaha wanted £500 for a replacement. So decided toopen cdi unit found two transistors in aluminium heat sinks, using a basic multimeter found one was showing no readings.Using the numbers on the transistors I found an equi…

  4. Started by Triton_Builder,

Hi folks, First post here, so please bear with me. I'm working on a "modern Triton" build, putting a modern (and eventually highly tuned) Hinckley Bonneville lump in a replica Manx Norton frame. I'm hoping to achieve a truely retro looking bike without the "external lubrication system" of old Triumphs, Duc 900SS level power, modern suspension and, given my eyesight, decent brakes. So, to get decent front suspension and brakes, I've bought more or less a complete R6 front end, with the "right way up" forks, yokes, calipers, handlebars, switchgear, etc. etc. However, I want to use spoked wheels on the bike for the retro look, so I have bought TRX850 discs (did …

Hi all, just wondering if any body can divvy up a little info, i have a 650 drag and sadly the chrome is blistering and peeling off of the engine casings, with being made of what they are my local chromers wont rechrome them as its too costly and they just dont do enough of the stuff to make it worth their expence, so i thought about useing chrome paint .... ok so whoever has the biggest foot can be the 1 to use it, just so long as i get some opinions too, has any one any ideas or opinions about this stuff as i really do not want to go the black paint stealth idea, thank you all in advance dave

Towards the end of last year I noticed that my sons PW was gettin harder to start, plus I thought there was a slight knock/rattle from the engine though it seemed to run ok. Have read that these could be symptoms of worn rings. Is it worth pullin it apart now before the better weather starts to replace parts? Or any easy tests to check ? Thanks folks

Hi all, Im currently rebuilding my DT50MX engine (1993). Im replacing all bearings and seals. Im just wondering how to replace the conrod. Ive been told that the crank will split in half to remove the old conrod along with the big end bearing. Is this right? And will it need to be specially balanced or something? I feel fully confident in doing the top end and my boss has rebuilt 100s of engines (pro engine builder) so i think we can do it, just wondering the best way to do it. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks Ryan. Also, how much am i looking to spend on parts??

I have a 1996 xj 600n ( single front disc ).It has done 22000m, and serviced every 4000m. Recently it has started to weep oil from the left-hand side oil cooler pipe, at the union where it goes into the oil cooler. I have replaced both crush washers ( twice ) on that side, but it is still weeping out, from under the bottom crush washer.I was thinking about trying to source a replacement oil cooler and pipes from a breakers. The price of new bits is apparently v.expensive. Is it possible to remove the cooler and run without it. The previous model year of this bike was identical, but managed without an oil cooler. If this is possible, has anybody any suggestions how I would …

Hi all My son has got a little Neos yn50 and all was running fine until it stalled for no reason, he said it was hard to start again and then it had no power. when I had a look at it it would rev but then cut out, riding it it wouldn't go over 15 mph. I have checked fuel is getting to the carb and have stipped the carb right down and cleaned all the jets, put a new plug in, I have done a omhs test on the coil and it seems fine, checked ht lead and cap and am now at a loss, so have any of you guys any ideas what to look at next ? Many Thanks in advance Dave

  20. Started by Lady K,

Hello Everone I recently bought a Mint condition very low mileage (3400) 1994 V-Max 1200 without the V Boost for my rather diminutive frame. I love it to bits but I struggle greatly with the Brake and Clutch levers having small hands. The length of stroke required with the standard Yamaha Master Cylinders negates any after market adjustable levers, not that I can find any for this model anyway! Can anyone recommend replacement master cylinders for the Brake & Clutch which I could fit say a set of Pazzo Stubbies to and they still be fit for use? I look forward to hearing from someone in the know very soon. Regards Lady K
