Hi everyone, for the past 2 months or so ive been restoring my 1993 dt50mx. upto now i have bare metalled the whole bike and coated it in red oxide, then gloss blacked it, redone the brakes and cables. Then masked of the rims and tyres and painted the hubs and spokes. i rebuilt the wiring loom with new connections. Ive stripped the engine and had the crankshaft rebuilt with a new conrod. Put in new crank bearing and seals, new clutch plates and the rest of the seals replaced. And put it all back together with a new gasket set. I also put a new big bore kit on as that is what i had on last time before the piston melted so wont have to re-jet the carb when i start it u…

Hi! Coming back to biking after 41 yrs. My last bike was a '52 BSA A10, so the '98 Yamaha XJ600n I've just bought is very exciting! It's a 2 owner, low miles bike that has been taken care of. But of course it has a problem! It starts and runs with great enthusiasm, but gear changing is ruining the riding pleasure. Letting the clutch back in after shifting meets nil revs and of course opening the throttle make this worse - from nil to strong instantly! Hate to think what this is doing to the transmission. First (and most obvious) sign that all is not right is the tickover/idle. It ticks over well, but is 'hunting' all over the place. Just like a leak in the inlet or…

Hi All! First I just wanted to announce to the world that I got my '89 XJ600 back on the road after 10 years storage in someone's garage I just got it MOT'd and rode it a couple of times today. Bike feels good, balanced and comfy. It handles better than I'd expected. There seems to be plenty of power (gears seem very close together..), throttle response is ok, it just sounds a bit rough, a bit lumpy. I cleaned the carbs using solvent and cleared all the passages, especially the jets, but there could be a bit of residue still in there. It is possible the ignition is not at its best either (old HT leads and plugs, though I gapped them). The question …

Hello all I just need to know if anyone has tried putting new "bigger" tyres on their YZF-R125? If so............. What size did you go for? (Standard front: 100/80/17) (Standard rear: 130/70/17) Was there suitable clearance? How much did you pay for them? (supplied and fitted) Where is the cheapest place to order from? Thanks all MarkyMarkR125

Hi all Am looking form a little bit of help and advice. I have a TZR 125 2RK with a mikuni carb fitted. I have cleaned the carb out and set it according to the Haynes manual. When I fitted it back to the bike it was fine untill I had given the bike a run and then the float stuck and it leaked petrol every where from the float chamber overflow. I then tried a second carb that had been removed from a spare frame. This gave me the same problem. If I tap the float chamber then the leak stops but I don't think that both of the carbs are likely to have faulty needle valves. Has anyone else had similar problems and if so could you suggest anything for me to try. Thank…

hey all basically my xvs 250 broke down on my way to work two days ago i was happily riding along when i started to gradually lose power. until it got to the point where i completely lost power. i waited around (AGGGGGGGGGGGES) for the AA and the guy said he is 95% sure that its my solenoid. im new to this but i was under the impression that the solenoid only started the bike? basically my question is, could the solenoid have caused me to gradually lose power and brake down? would rather have a rought idea b4 i buy a new one

Hi Everybody, I didn't really wanted to start a new topic, but even running a search, I couldn't find a decent answer to my question... I was wondering if anybody else has a strange noise coming from the engine or not. It is a constant "whistling-grinding" noise and I couldn't identify any corelation to speed, revs or anything else. It starts as I start the bike and continues even when is already warmed in and have some miles behind me. Any ideas where this could come from? Thanks!

any advice would be much appreciated. Ok im going to be purchasing an sr 125 and the seller says the teeth on first gear have slighlty eroded (1st gear rattles) and says its best to start off in second gear. Now im wondering is this worth purchasing? the bike has done 25k and its the 1992 model. Does any one know how much it would cost to recondition the gear box?

Evening guys, I have recently bought a 1991 xj 600 pre div for the commute to work. My question is this, the front brake performance seems quite poor. The bike only has 14000 miles on it and the pads, discs seem good and I don't think there much flex in the hoses. They are twenty years old I guess!! So I need advice on what to do next? I thought the pads may have become contaminated maybe or perhaps I need to overhaul the calipers with new pistons and seals. I've bleed the system so far and cleaned up the calipers and pins.... What is the normal performance for these brakes, mine seem lazy and not as sharp as they should be. has anyone upgraded the calipers?? …

Hello everyone, had a bit of a bang on the YBR the other, just some scratches on the bodywork really, yet the needle has fallen off within the dial! I've just been tinkering, the oil is still on my hands! but I just can't seem to get into the actual dial. I don't want to buy a new one as they're not exactly cheap, it doesn't bother me that much as I change by sound but it just looks terrible! If you want to see the dial, it's in the video on my channel http://www.youtube.com/user/curlyblakeybiker Any help would be appreciated Blake
