Hi to everybody..I am a new member and never asked any questions before, but perhaps there can be somebody to help me..I hae got a 1991 xj 600 pre diversion,I have turned it into a street fighter, have made a 4 into 2 exhaust system and made 2 stubby end cans..also I have fitted chrome air filters although they are not k&n ones..my problems is that when cold the bike is an absolute nightmare to start, but when it has started it will start all the time,I have checked all compressions and are all around 150 lb,valve clearances are also ok,it also seems to struggle to reach any kind of decent high speed,I have stripped all the carbs down and cleaned just about all the jets.…

hi all, got a beowulf end can on at the minute without baffle and was wondering whether there are any louder cans? The beowulf can is loud but would prefer something very loud, so that bike can be heard while i speed off in to distance XD Don't know much about bikes other than how to ride so excuse me if I don't understand simple instructions lol. Are there any noticeably louder cans that are worth spending extra money on? Would prefer one that is road legal with baffle in, so that i can use the excuse that 'it fell out' if i get stopped (happened with current can, never found screw but have got the actual baffle, and it is now sitting under my seat). Would it be wort…

I bought a kz400 off of a guy and he had swapped out the front end and swingarm with what he said was an 79 rd400. I measured the forks and they were 33mm and rd forks are 34mm. With a little research I came across the yamaha 79 xs400 and it had 33mm forks. So I'm thinking this is what it is off of. Or was there an rd model that had 33mm forks. I need to order sprockets and brake kits. Does anyone know if there is any definite way I can tell. Are the callipers the same on both bikes? Are the rear sprockets the same? I've done tons of searches and came up with nothing and all pictures from each bike look like they share these parts. Even if someone could post a picture of …

I bought a brand new ybr about a week or two ago and it seems like it doesnt want to go into neutral. When i pull over i try to put it into neutral and it just skips past it and goes into first then trying to go up into neutral it skips it again and straight into 2nd sometimes i cant even get it when the engine is running i have to let the clutch out stall to get it its easier to get it when i have to stop at lights or something but when i stop all together it can take a few attempts of doing it. Dont know if its a case of just trying to get used to it but the bike i rode before was easy to get into neutral So i thought there might be a problem somewere down the line…

I have an 82 550 maxim, the bike is in great shape with approx. 9,500 miles. When purchased owner said bike ran.But fuel tap only worked in prime position. When I got bike home I noticed the vacum hose was missing from the fuel tap. I assume the hose goes to an attachment on the manifold somewhere. If this hose were in place would the fuel tap work as intended? As is the bike can be started, but is very tuff to keep running. My question is replace the fuel tap, or just the soe? Where do I find parts like these?

I've had a DT 125 in storage for a few years. Of course it didn't start. I cleaned out the petrol tank which was full of debris; rust I guess. The filter on the tap is also now clean. I put some petrol in the spark plug hole, connected it to another bike's battery to jump start it. It whent for a second or two, but as soon as the fuel I injected burned, the engine stopped. I tried to bump start it a few times; no joy. But then it suddenly did start and it ran for a few seconds and shot out plumes of white smoke. This happened a few times, but always stopped after a few seconds. I would guess that the fuel isn't going from the carb to the spark plug properly. Any ide…

I have just taken a Yamaha DT 125R out of storage. I removed the carburettor and cleaned away all the residue. It now works like a dream, except that about 10 minutes after I turn off the engine, the overflow pipe starts dripping. The overflow needle valve is in good condition (no sign of damage and looks like new) and I have adjusted the float height to make it more sensitive to the overflow, but still the problem persists. I have looked at buying a new overflow needle valve, but the cheapest quote I have found is £50, which seems rediculous for a tiny piece of alloy. Any suggestions? Or perhaps do you know a dealer that supplies these parts at a more reasonable price?

My Yamaha tzr 50 lost power while i was riding it earlier, when i let go of the throttle i lost power and couldnt seem to rev it at all. When I twisted the throttle the whole way round it revved a tiny bit but then when let go of the throttle again it just cut out. After this it would take a long time to start and i would have to have the choke on. As i was riding home today this happened about every minute of riding. I have checked the petrol and oil and there is about a quarter left in each and the radiator is full except for about 2cm from the top. As you can probably tell; I am no bike expert so I have no idea what I am doing! Other information is that about 3 days ag…

Greetings Yamahaclub; I am new to this site but not to the Yamaha 650. I purchased my "XS650 Special" new in 1981 and have recently resurrected it after not having ridden it for about 15 years. It just clicked over 10,000 miles. I have since resolved the known petcock issue with this model so fuel system seems to be behaving well. I charged and serviced the battery and started it up for the first time yesterday since October 2010 when I stopped riding for the winter. I was about 7 miles down the road when the bike just died - no sputtering, no surging, just dead. I suspect this is an electrical problem. Fuel was in the tank and flowing freely from the new petcoc…
