  1. Hey there. I'm Aaron Carver. Motorcycle newbie. Yamahaclub newbie. Milwaukee Native and resident. Proud owner of a 1979 Yamaha xs400. I used to ride a Honda Ruckus--A fun bike with not enough pep. Thanks to everyone for all the information on this great site. I've left some posts elsewhere on this site but I didn't know about forum etiquette so here I am to introduce myself properly...and ask a question I'm fixing up a 1979 yamaha xs400 and the first place I started was the wiring. I pulled the tape of the wiring harness and discovered that it had "modified" by the previous owner. Many circuits were crossed and there were insulation cracks and bad spliceds etc…

Hello all! I recently ran through the electrical on my 78 xs400E with a multimeter, checking to see which component was responsible for the bikes overall lifelessness when i tried to start it or turn it on. I narrowed it down to the fuses (which i would have started with had the previous owner not SWORN they were good). I discovered that the 20A main fuse (glass tube fuses for those of you unaware) was bad as well as one of the 10A fuses for the ignition. So i went out to the nearest auto parts store to grab the fuses i needed, but they didn't have any in the exact size i needed. So i took a chance and drove a ways further to the next parts place and they ALSO had none…

This is probably a stupid question but i'll ask it anyway.Do front fork tubes on all makes of bikes ie Yamaha,Honda,Kawasaki,Suzuki ect fit into the fork sliders the same? I'm asking because the fork tubes on my virago are very pitted & i have seen them from other makes of bikes much cheaper.I know they need to be the right diameter and length but i don't want to get some from say a honda and find they can't be fitted in my fork lowers. Cheers guys

Hi i'v got a dt125lc3 and i am having some running problems. Firstly the bike was working fine then it gradually became like this. It is almost impossible to start i have to repeatedly bump start it down a hill to get it going, when it does run it miss fires consantly and wont rev. As it warms up it gets a little better but not by much when i try to rev the bike it just stops firing then cuts back in when the revs drop. What i have done: Cleaned out the carb twice with commpressed air Inspected the reads (thought they might be broken) Checked all conections visually Possible problem: I checked the secondary ignition coil resistance and it was spot on w…

Hey guys, i'm new here..... I've got a pretty urgent question, and i thought this might be the best place to find an answer to it. My question is, I've recently bought a CDI, which i was told worked on my SR250, but i think it's actually an SR125 CDI. It certainly looks identical to a 125's. The product number on it is 3MW-00, which i think makes it an sr125 cdi. but now i've bought it, i want to know, will this CDI work on my SR250?? I've spent a chunk of money buying the CDI, so i really hope it is compatible. if it's not, is there any simple adjustments i can make to it which will make it work with my 250? Please help!! Thanks in advance

Was riding my yamaha jog rr 50cc lc down the road and heard a very quiet ping and my bike cut out. A local bike shop was very unhelpful and said it may be the cylinder that has gone. The bike has very low compression is this true? And if so how hard is it to change the cylinder and piston on this bike? Any help or advice would be appriciated.

Just having a browse on the interweb and there seem to be a few bargains on German evilbay at the moment. Here are some examples; Tank Inner metal fender Head Complete exhaust Just a note. Even if they say they don't ship to the UK. If you ask, a lot do. Be carful if they dont take Paypal as a bank transfer may cost you £20 or more. I have brought a lot of stuff from German ebay and not had one duff item yet but your risk if you go for anything. I just thought that some people may be interested.

Hiya, I am a new member here and would like to say a big hello to everyone out there. I have a Dragstar xvs650 custom and i have had an electrical fault for a while which i want to get to the bottom of. This is what I know and any help will be greatly appreciated. The battery drains far too quickly when left standing, sometimes overnight! The charging system seems ok putting 14V into the battery when running, but I disconnected the -ve lead from the battery and with a multimeter connected between the -ve terminal on the battery and the -ve lead found out is was drawing over 200ma! I pulled the individual fuses one at a time but no difference. The only one that makes a dif…

Hi guys Zircon here again , so after about 6 months of enjoyable riding my bike has begun to die on me again. Its recently had a new Cylinder ( 70cc as it was the only one available at the time ) After fitting the new piston and cylinder, it ran fine for about 3 months , however it started "spluttering" around 6-7K revs , it would have a bit of a moan but it would come out the other side and continue to rev freely . This has slowly got worse and worse to the point where it only revs to about 7k revs in neutral and about 5.5k when in gear. I decided to have a look at the old piston , it was fine, but it had allot of black carbon deposits on top , the plug always seeme…

My questions are what tools will I need to remove the filter and where exactly is the drain plug located. Any help would be appreciated and pictures would be awesome, thanks.

Ok so the bike has done 20000 miles. The clutch does not spring back all the way, I have to physically push it (the clutch lever) forwards. The biting point is right at the end. I can only assume new clutch plates are required. If I also added uprated clutch springs, would the biting point be at the begining, instead of the end. I have adjusted all the cable settings, also replaced the cable which did not help. My last resort is both plates and uprated springs. Can anyone think of anything else I should try? Thanks

Hi, this is probably a very old question and one that i have yet to get my head around!!! I checked my oil today, by resting the dipstick in the hole and taking a reading, it was just about up to the three quarter line, i have had so many mixed responses on how to check the level. This is what an online manual says to do to check my Yamaha Majesty. ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION 1. Stand the scooter on a level surface. Make sure the scooter is upright when inspecting the oil level. 2. Start the engine and let it warm up for a few minutes. 3. Turn off the engine. 4. Inspect:
