I'm renovating a DT125R and had to replace the rear wheel. Now I have done that I CANNOT GET ANY PRESSURE FROM THE REAR BRAKE AND THE BRAKE DOES NOT OPERATE. The rear brake caliper is fixed to the wheel spindle, so when I removed the wheel I (probably incorrectly), I disconnected the rear brake cable from the caliper so that the caliper could be removed connected to the wheel spindle. I have now read that I have made some errors in the way I removed the wheel and in particular the rear brake caliper. The rear brake cable that I disconnected from the caliper has obviously leaked some brake fluid whilst the wheel was replaced. Now I have replaced the wheel/caliper…

Hi All, I am moving this thread from the Street Bikes section to try and get some more tech knowledge! I fitted a tail tidy with led plate light and new mini indicators (not LED) and they all work well except the hazard lights only work if the ignition is on. If its off they flash once and then go off and after resetting the hazard light switch the indicators will not work again until I turn off the ignition and turn it back on again. Has anyone come across anything like this. Im thinking it could be something to do with reduced or increased wattage of the new bulbs??? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance Adam_Fozz

Hi All, I lost balance on my xj6 the other day (whist standing still...doh!). its ok, the crash protectors saved the day but the mirror did get scratched a little. Has anyone ever tried running a mirror down to try and remove the scratch. Its that textured matt black material. Your thoughts would be excellent. Adam_Fozz

I've recently bought a mk1 dt 125 lc and it's missing a few bits. Can anyone tell me if there are any other bikes which have the same engine. The reason I ask is because I need a left side crankcase cover and I'm struggling to find one. The other thing is, I've got a carb off an Rd which is the same as the dt one but with different guts, but can anyone tell me if my bike will run just by adjusting it, or will I need to get the right needle, jets etc. Thanks, Dan

can someone help me out? it's an XS250, with electronic ignition - the timing seemed alright, marks lined up, went alright for a while, then later on started a bit of backfiring - pretty sure carbs are ok, and no air or exhaust leaks - checked the timing, and on the left side it seems to be way advanced(? - the double line marks for full advance are about 10mm to the right of the pointer). so i adjusted the points plate to get the left side marks to line up, but now the points plate is in a totally different position (anti-clockwise about 10mm) - then checked the right and it was out the same as the other was. tried to get that to line up, but because the points plate has…

I am probably asking about something that everyone else knows, but having searched the forum and the internet with no luck I thought I'd ask here. I am replacing the badly pitted forks on my '89 XJ600 with less pitted ones from ebay. They have arrived complete but I don't know if the oil level (or quality) is ok so would like to replace it before installing. The problem is I don't have a tool to remove the top caps. They seem to need an enormous hex bit, 20 or 21mm diameter. Apparently they have new seals, so don't need to take anything else apart except remove the top caps and springs to pour in and measure oil level. Does anyone have a trick, or know of a …

Good evening, Long story short I was very fortunate earlier tonight when my clutch cable snapped while I was riding. Luckily I was only going very slowly in peak hour traffic and was able to get off the road and to a service station. I have the workshop manual for the bike (1981 XS 250) but it doesn't tell me how to just change the cable. I know it's the cable (and not something more sinister) because I can see where it snapped right up the top at the lever. The only mention I've found about the cable at the engine end is this: "Remove the five screws which hold the final drive sprocket casing to the left-hand side of the engine. Pull the casing out until it is c…

  15. Hello, My yamaha chappy's throttle was a bit sticky and when riding would stick on before slowly releasing a bit and returning to normal. I opened the cable splitter box and WD40'd it, the splitter moved backwards and forwards nicely. I then opened the carb top where one of the cables goes and the slide is clean and seems ok. I also opened where the other cable goes and it's attached to what looks like a throttle body of a car (dont know what the actual part is, when your messing around with a car and you rev the engine by moving the wheel, looks like that). After doing all this, now when I bump start it, the throttle is on full at idle and I cant shift bac…

  16. hey all! i just took apart my mikuni bs34 carbs for a cleaning and a tune up. One of the several things i planned to do was to replace the worn and damaged jet needle. The throttle slide is removed with the rubber diaphragm still in tact, but i cannot figure out how to remove the current needle from the slide body... your thoughts? thanks in advance! Ry

  17. Hello all, im overseas forces based in cyprus and the kickstart on my chappy has broken, the bit on the end where the kickstart actually clamps onto has broken off. I've been trying to find a place here that sells parts but it's pretty much impossible. Any ideas where I can get a new kickstart shaft from? ----------- Also, I would be interested in getting a Lifan 125cc engine from ebay after the kickstarts been fixed, we have chappy races on the go kart track every now and then. Any chance you guys could link one that would fit my bike? Im sure you lot know alot more than me when it comes to bike mechanics, and buying the wrong one could be a real pain when I …

Found a fix for my broken electronic speedo sensor. Bike is a TZR 50 but I guess same fix is suitable for similar speed sensors on other models. The sensor is on a small PCB buried in a plastic plug that is held in place by a small metal pin in the front wheel speedo assembly. If the wiring is OK and the sensor is the suspect it can be changed out if you are good at soldering small stuff and up for giving it a bash yourself. Replacement part is a small 3 leg IC made by Allegro Microsystems, part number A1220EUA-T costing a couple of quid. Data sheet on the net. Part needed center leg bent underneath to match PCB. After testing shows it is working, be…
