Hi From time to time, the revs on my XV250 seem to take half a second to kick in when I twist the throttle. Now, I'm not expecting superbike responsiveness but it is this unpredictability that interests/concerns me. I have cleaned the air filter (the oil that came out seemed pretty clean to me) but this had no positive effect. Could the carb need cleaning? and .... what's bothering me is I am developing a tendency to really yank the throttle to compensate then the Virago takes off down the road propelled by the power of many horses. Hi all, I'm looking at grabbing a little project bike and the old DTs seem to be a good way to go. There's one available in great shape but it isn't running; seems to have been someone's project that they don't want to take any further. The ad specifies it's a 125 with 175 head and piston, so sounds like maybe was rebored bigger and now doesn't go (apparently it will sometimes run briefly after a push-start but won't keep going or start by kickstart). Anyone done this sort of mod to an engine? What did you do to get it up and going afterward? Bike allegedly has new carb, air filter, piston and rings... So maybe something wasn't installed properly, or there's so…

Good afternoon, I recently had my bike knocked into by some careless people. As a result my clutch lever was bent almost like a full circle. So anyway, the clutch lever is on. The only problem I am having now is the lever is too tense, I unscrewed a few bolts and that made it a little less tense, I think? Can someone maybe show me which bolt needs adjusting (Done the one near the handlebars(

So I recently gave my engine and carb a bit of an overhaul. I tried to revert all the carb settings to as they were but I'm not sure how good a job I did. I've never owned a vehicle with a carb before this and am only just learning how they work. Anyway I've been having a bit of trouble with it since putting it all back together. It's rather difficult to start when it's cold. Before I took it apart it started no problem. It has a choke operated by a lever on the handlebar. There is some adjustment in the cable where it attaches to the carb but I have absolutely no idea how it should feel at the lever, and how it should behave in terms of engine running. Haynes was ve…

Hey everyone, My mate has a wr250f, I thinks it's a 2008 model (with the al frame). Yesterday we were riding, and at approx 50mp/h his rear wheel just blocked up! Fortunately he was able to hold the bike under control to a stop. Anyway, after that engine was stuck, kickstart kan be kicked sometimes with some effort, but we quickly stopped messing with it. He bought the bike just weeks ago second hand, so we don't have a real history on the bike. But it looks really well looked after, really mint. But also all the electronics (starter, speedo, battery,..) are removed so it also looks like somebody in the past converted it for pure offroad/racing so it may have been ri…

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, especially when it comes to electrics, but I am a new rider and this is my first bike (2005 xt125r)I've been struggling with the carb and getting a nice steady idle but that is for another thread. The issue here is the way the headlight is reeeeeally dim at low revs. Haynes says the idle should be around 1700rpm and when I have had it holding idle at that speed the light is incredibly dim (like just a faint orange glow from the filament) I've not used it at night yet but I know that as it is, it wouldn't be safe. It only really gets bright above 3-4000rpm. It's hard to say, but even at this stage I'm not sure how well it would illumina…

Hi all ,just picked up a sr125 for my Gf bought cheap as spare repairs. Put a battery on it and i has a clunk when turning over..def not wanting to start. Gave it a quick compression check showing 80psi Took cover off oil filter and it is covered in thick mettallic paste so something in there has been grinding away. My question is where do i start looking, obviously its a major .are there common faults on these bikes? If it helps the girl we bought off said it was running fine and she sold to some young guy who took off down the road then turned up half hour later saying it had stopped running so she gave his money back and sold it off for nought …

Hi, I'm a new rider having just passed my CBT and purchased a 2005 XT125R in the last fortnight. I rode up to visit a friend this weekend. I'll talk about all aspects of the trip that i think could possibly be contributing to what happened. The trip involved a 1.5mile off road climb and there was no running problems on the way up. Although the idle was so low that it actually struggled to keep going when left to idle. The bike then sat outside uncovered for 48 hours and got a thorough soaking due to the typically terrible UK weather. The bike also has a fuel cut off tap that I usually close but I actually forgot this time so it was open the whole time. When I ca…

So, my throttle cable snapped. i thought no biggie, got a replacement, took off the old one, put the new one on and everything back into place, or so I think. Issues I have are: The new cable seems too long in that I only get about 1/4" of resistance on the grip right at the end The bike won't start (guessing because there is no throttle) and when I kick it over there feels to be very little compression. I'm planning on stripping it back down tomorrow and checking everything, but looking for any tips or things to look out for (like "make sure this part faces this way" etc) or things I may need to do. I'm gonna snap some pics this time around so if needs…

Hey folk, After a little of the old "try this" info if you could? I am still doing up my mates XJ900 which i have had since December and have got to the stage in the game of starting her up (with no luck) basically the problem is that i press the starter button and all that happens is you get a click from the relay and the motor twitches and then you get the buzzing as tho the battery is dead.........But hear is the list of what i have done and fitted. Old engine was fucked (top crank case split) so replaced with a second hand one New engine stripped, cleaned and new gaskets fitted (turns over by hand) Starter motor overhauld with new electrics…
