Eight month old XV 950 with less than 4.5k on the clock. It's been back to the dealer on two occasions with a loud squeal on acceleration. The first time they said it was build up?? on the front brake, stripped and cleaned it, this didn't solve the issue. They still have it for the second time and they tell me that its normal for the gear box to whine. This is not a whine, this is a squeal, loud enough to hear over the wind noise and ear plugs, and to attract the attention of pedestrians. It is being test ridden again today but they claim not to be able to hear the noise. really at a loss, if anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. Been in touch with Yamaha c…

I'll be picking up a 2007 XVS 1100 Dragstar in the next couple of weeks and have been looking at jacks/lifts in readiness. This 2 point jack looks useful for lifting one wheel or the other, but can anyone say if it can be used safely to completely remove either wheel? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-Scissors-Stand-Motorbike-Jacks-Mechanical-Mini-Lifts-1100lb-500kg/291402911742?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3De0d5fe6550514ea8944b93bf1924bfe3%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D311502073980 The other, probably more useful option, is one of th…

I am trying to renew the Fork seals on my 97 Yamaha SR 125. I have removed the circlip and washer and the Haynes manual then says I need to hold the fork body in a soft vice and forecably remove the ram from the housing. The thing will not budge, am i missing something. I have tried heating up the housing, burning out the old rubber seal in the process. I have even rigged up a pulling system with a Garden Post, Garden Wall, Rope and a pulley system. To say I put the ram under a lot of pressure to remove it from the housing is an understatement. The ram will not budge from the housing, what am I missing? Derek Herbert

Hi, About once per week the indicator stops working on my 2016 XJ6 Diversion. The hazrd warning also stops working. All other electrical items such as headlights, and brake lights seem to work fine while the indicator stops working. I noticed tonight when I stopped and turned off the bike then turned back on the ignition but did not start the bike, the neutral bulb on the instrument panel was weak (*) but the indicator and hazards worked ok. After switching on and off a few times without turning over, the neutral bulb seemed strong and the indicator continued to work fine. Has anyone else experienced this infrequent indicator/hazard "failure" …

Hi all, I have a 2001 Yamaha sr 125. as it gets to about 27mph there is a slight knocking feeling in my feet, its there until about 34mph and goes again. if you roll off the power at that speed it fades out, but comes back when roll on the power... also slight shuddering when pulling away. as if too quick with clutch not enough rev........ i did lose some oil after not tightening the cam cover fully. topped up with 15/40(could this have affected clutch performance?, Caused unusual engine wear?) i'm thinking possibly some form of bearing, or something else that once was round, is no longer.... any thoughts welcome, anything in particular…

We now have available 12 volt conversion kits for DTs 250/360/400 1974-79: The problem with these machines is that Yamaha altered the generators often and also issued several factory re-calls adding different parts to some meaning that you cannot be sure what is actually fitted. They even had dealers rewinding the charge coils at one point! Yamaha tried many different combinations which means that to ensure good results you have to replace the lighting coil for a dedicated 12 volt unit. Our kit replaces all the lighting coils Yamaha used - no matter which configuration you have (so long as someone hasn't fitted an DT1/2/3 or RT generator) with a standa…

Hi guys, me again. I've been looking through my user manual and have decided that I should have a go at changing the oil - mainly because I can't see if it has any in! The little viewing window is very dark or black and I can't tell if its below the window, or above it - but certainly it isn't between the two marks as I see no line across the window. My book says to use SAE 20w40 SE motor oil, or SAE 10w30 SE motor oil. Which should I use, and should it specifically say that its for motorcycles? Also, it says that the oil drin plug O-ring may need replacing - any idea where I can get one of these? Will it be rubber or cork (or maybe something else)? I don't wan…
