Hi guys new to the forum. I have been working on my own bikes for about 10 years now and i recently picked a sr 125 for my fiancee to learn on. The bike was fine for a few weeks and then the problem started. Before i start i have done the following. Replaced with brand new battery Fully charged and is holding charge fine Replaced starter soleniod Cleaned battery connections Clean starter switch Changed spark Clean fuel And still the bike just clicks in the soloneiod. It bumps fine but not much use for her out on her test. The solenoid clicks and you can feel it when you touch it. The bike will sometime start on the button and when it does starts and runs fine. Its…

A lot of us from time to time have all sorts of grief with carbs and their internall organs being gummed up due to modern fuels particularly after a long lay up. Whilst it would be nice to have a monster size sonic cleaner it is a big investment for little return in the home shed/garage/workshop sooooooooooooo what to do ? I trawled around for some time to find a sonic cleaner at a decent price but to no avail. Then as luck would have it - bout time I had some luck - a mate who is a tattoo artist showed me the sonic cleaner he uses and it cost only £24 ! OK it's not big enough to get a complete carb in but you can take the carb apart and do it in stages. I have had a 36…

  4. Hi, My yam is fettling up nicely, but last on the list of 'to do's' is a noisy 5th gear. Thankfully, second hand internals are cheap. I know how to identify gears in good condition. But how do I know which gear is 5th gear when the cluster is on the bench ? Thanks.

I put it all back together again and I seem to have lost the spark.so she won't start. Can anyone recommend a bike mechanic in or near Brighton? I am too busy and inexperienced to be able to sort it. Cheers Geo

I have a Yamaha DT50 which I intend to use as a field bike for my 13 year old son. Although we did get it ticking over for a while I found it to be down on compression so whipped the top end off to find it had a broken ring and very ropey piston. I have a new barrel and piston on the way but since during one of the lung bursting kickstart session I noticed a lot of fuel on the carb inlet I wondered how important the reed valve is. I suppose my question is , do I need one? since the bike doesnt have one. Should the bike run without it or is it crucial to the wee beastie actually firing up. My experience with 2 strokers is limited so thanks for any info.

  9. I am looking for a service/repair manual (preferably Haines) for my YBR 125 Custom. The last Haines manual published for the YBR goes up to 2009. Has there been a significant change to the YBR since 2009 or will I be ok with that manual? Many thanks G

Hi all, Been riding my SR for a week now and I've noticed that sometimes I'll be in 4th or 5th and I'll lose and the engine will rev like I've pulled the clutch in. I've read around that either my clutch cable needs adjusting / lubricating / replacing or I've got clutch slip and need to replace the friction plates. How hard of a job is this? I've been servicing my cars for 5 years but this is my first bike, I've RTFM'ed and it seems simple enough, any thoughts, hints, tips welcome!

my xvs doesnt run right it has to have choke open even when warm if a use this tool an get the mixture correct by turning the air screw will the idle speed screw effect the colour of the above spark plug an give a wrong reading ( there is no rev gauge ) or should i turn the idle down so it s just above stalling before i use the tool

  13. Hey Guys, I have been rebuilding an RT1 360 for a while now and I am at the point of replacing the piston and rings. The cylinder wall looks good so I just want to put the same size piston and rings in but I am having trouble identifying the size of the piston. On the top of the piston, next to the arrow it has a #75 stamped in it. Opposite of that is #8025. Can anyone tell me if this is a standard (stock) piston or is it an oversized piston. Thanks!!!

  14. So I bought an XJR 1300 a couple of weeks ago, the 2007 fuel-injected model. I've since noticed the idle isn't very smooth.. neither is it if you rev up to say 2000 rpm in neutral and hold it there.. The needle bounces around by a few hundred RPM. It sounds like it's just one cylinder that's misfiring slightly - and when I pulled the plugs, the #3 one looked a bit worse than the others. Running a bit rich perhaps? Anyway, I took the bike in for a service (incl. new spark plugs) and had the throttle bodies tuned up - but it hasn't really changed anything. The Yamaha guys said that it's just normal for the bike to be this rough. But a guy I know who is very good with bi…

Hi all, Had my Yam 125 for 2 years now and aside from a set of new tyres and a few bulbs it has done the last 8,000 miles perfectly (taking it to the grand old age of 30,000 miles). Lately its been having a bit of a starter issue where when I press the starter button it just clicks near the battery seat area. I took the battery out at the weekend (thinking it might be a charge issue) and charged it and replaced it, though that hasn't solved anything - the clicking seems to come from this circular thing as per the photo below... Throughout my motor career of owning both rubbish cars and bikes I have always put starter issues to the alternator…

  17. Started by NEV,

After looking to replace a mixture screw, and a couple of 'o' rings on my carb, I came across a small problem, the original carb for my 1992 DT125R as stated in the manual is a round top VM 26 SS 3MB00, mine being a flat slide has obviously been changed afterwards, the identifying marks on mine, the best I can make out is TI32 3MB00 or could be TL32 3MB00,I've searched the internet for a TL/TI32 flat slide carb but nothing comes up, even getting in touch with Allens Performance in Notts, even they don't have a clue unless I send them the carb, and can check for compatability with other carbs. The main differences between my carb and the TM32 carb is the choke lever on t…

  20. Started by slice,

Ok I have a small problem with my front forks on the XJ750, the upper (chrome) legs are very badly pitted and I was wondering if it was possible to replace them with forks from some thing else? The only fly in the ointment is that the XJ has the anti dive setup on the lower end of the forks and I was wondering if I could simply do away with this. Also would anyone know what forks would fit my frame without making it look to much of a frankenmachine, I would like to replace them with something from a lot newer machine but need some advice as to what would fit. The other alternative is to get the stancions rechromed but not sure if this could be done or what the cost woul…
