I am currently in the process of restoring an 1981 'X' Plate DT125MX. I have opted to change the piston, barrel & head with a DT175MX, and have rebuilt the engine, and reinstated the 2 stroke autolube with a DT175MX oil pump, shaft etc. I am now ready to refurb the carb, which is currently dismantled for cleaning. I understand that I need to change the main jet in the carb as it will now run as a '175', and the '125' jet will not be sufficient and may cause the engine to run lean, and seize. The main jain in the carb is currently a 140. I've checked the good old Haynes manual, as well as the part manual, but can't make a lot of sense. The Haynes manual refers…

Having had my fill of near death brought about by the lacklustre bulb I got a 12v 35/35w halogen to replace it. Fitted it myself and everything ( for context, I'm the kind of bloke who can end up with spare screws and bits if I try anything mechanical). But now I'm having panic attacks that I've fitted it wrong - I did a scientific test called standing in front of the bike and looking at the headlight - it appeared more dazzling on dip than it did on high beam? My question is is it possible to fit the bulb upside down or are bike headlights pretty idiot proof?

hi, i have a little problem with my dt50 supermotard, i was riding along, went round a roundabout and the back wheel slid out, i thought it was my thought xD so i carried riding i got home, and engine oil was pooring out the bike, but it was white? i thought it was a head gasket so i took the engine out, took the head off, and looked at the gaskets, none were broke, or ripped, so i made another one out of gaset paper, and put it together, any ideas what could be wrong?

I am asking this question on behalf of my son who has just recently purchased a "H" reg Yamaha DT 125, the previous owner of this bike had it standing for some months, my son only picked it up last Saturday, he discovered it was losing water, checked the water pump and found that it has ceased up! What would cause this and does it mean he would have to change the head gasket too? Many thanks.

Went to do the SR's first oil change today and have managed to (quite badly) damage the drain plug. The plug didn't move at all so it's still sealed but I've rounded a few of the nut corners: I have a new drain plug and oil seal, any tips for getting the old one off? I only have 'simple' tools (normal / ring spanners, socket set), how much would I expect to pay for a garage to remove it if I can't?

Hi all, Went to start my SR125 this morning and no electricals , no neutral light, headlights etc. I then noticed that I'd left the light switch on since last use (14 hours). When I turn the engine off the lights turn off automatically, but would the light switch being left on have caused the battery to drain?

Hi There, I own a 58 reg Yamaha YBR125 - Custom, I baught it from a dealership 2 weeks ago. It is still under its 3 months Take back for repair warrantly but i am to far away to get it to the dealership and get it done. Im currently having a problem with the gearbox where i set off in first as i go up into second giving it a fair push as you have to it will click onto the neutral light and then off as if it was in second, About a second later it will slip itself back down into neutral and i end up giving the engine a fair reving off of it. Also the drop from 2nd to 1st gives out a rather large clunk sometimes, more than it usualy does. I was thinking that perhaps the…

I'm new to the forum and was hoping to get some expert advice. I've just started using the DT again after about 3 months of it being stood. It rode fine for about 100 miles yesterday then when I took it out today after replacing spark plug, it went 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, N and nothing else! no grinding or funny noises, just a neutral where 5th gear should be. I changed the oil today afterwards but that's made no difference. It has also been slipping out of 2nd gear into neutral. I think it could be a selector fork but I won't know until I take her for surgery. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Pete

Just finnished restoring my DT and cant get it running right. Took it into the shop and had it back twice and its still poo. He said it was too rich as when he took the air filter panel and filter off it run much better. Then lowered the jet to 90. It wont rev out or idle for long. 40mph tops. Think i will have to sell as is if i cant get it sorted asap as going through divorce and may need the cash. Cost me £100 in the shop and it aint got me anywhere.

1st time with a prob. i have xs750 1979 and when i go for a drive after about 45mins the battery has discharged although the byke continues to work ok if i switch the byke off there is not enough battery to restart the byke. i have checkedacross the battery terminals with the byke running and there is 14.5 volts going into the battery which suggests the alternator and rectifier are ok. i kept a volt meter connected on another run and there was always 14.4volts approx going into the battery however the battery still ran down. has anyone any ideas what might be wrong.

Ok, I have a Crankshaft upgrade query. Im in the process of installing a an ARIAS 856 big bore kit into my '96 YZF750R. I have all the piston side of things sorted now but Im a little worried about the extra power being put through the crank and rods. When I pulled the engine down it was already about to spin a big end and that was with stock ponies. I have sourced another engine to install the upgraded pistons/cylinders which has good bearing surfaces but still Im wondering if I should send the crank away to be cleaned up in some way. Nitrided again? polished? balanced? lightened? Rods also, should I get these polished and balanced and nitrided and all that or what? …
