Hey guys, I'm not all too sure how the Yamaha Dual Intake System works, when my bike is under heavy throttle it seems like it's being restricted in the top end of the revs, only a new problem was, going mint a couple of weeks back. Is it something a home mech can look at or do I need to take the carb set up into a shop. Cheers

the other day before the snow. i started puting together the bits for the new barrel for my rxs 100.. any way i have a reed block with fiber racing reeds on it and when i went to install it i noticed it did not like to fit in the inlet.. the reed stops had been bent outwards.. I assume this was so the petals could open farther, i was wondering if there is a set distance they should be.. i dont mind bending them back and measuring the distances to a rough accuracy. i really doubt that having the stops bent out that far helps the performance any, If no one knows thats ok and i can just compare to my other reed block.. BUT given that was on The bike with a bad barrel…

I took my star out for the first time in a couple of weeks today. When i was on my way back she started kangarooing down the road and when i got it home it was running badly. It has fuel in the tank but not that much but the fuel light has not come on but does work as when i you turn the key it lights up and goes out. I am very worried as i hope there is nothing majorly wrong i will put some more fuel in soon and try it, but i was wondering if anyone would know any different. From filling her up till now i have only done about 60 miles and she is almost empty but i have only done little trips as weather has been rubbish as you know. Nick

Well figured i'd go through this on here as it might help others see how problem solving goes. First up the surgery. With bike on my front paddock stand i made a start. Thing is an engine failing can have many causes. Rushing will make fixing much harder. A steady approach checking as you go is needed. As such i checked around the motor first. Head gasket good, base gasket good, ah... Bottom of the reed block is damp. The damp was coming from the carb rubber. The rubber has lost its shape and the jubilee clip was weak. These together caused a carb leak that leaned her out causing this.... And... You can see the swarf across the cases. T…

Does anyone own a set of the Oxford LED Indicator range? I'm trying to figure out if these would be compatible for my XT 125 X. I emailed Oxford but haven't had reply. I know the indicators state that they are universal but I'm not sure how accurate that is. The thread size (diameter) on the current indicator bolt is only 5mm. Was wondering if anyone that already owns a pair could confirm the thread size.

Alright people,im based in manchester, north west england and i own a yamaha dt 125 05, its currently sat in my garage needing top end rebuild, but the weather has put me off it untill now, and im now looking to get it back on road! its currently all stock, and im interested in spending a bit of money on it, derestricting it and making it into a little smoker, i will be buying a performance pipe soon, but i was interested in changing the carb as i am told this will make quite a big difference? would appreciate any knowledge shared, or any tips on tuning, increasing bhp etc what to do or not to do.

Hi Following on from my previous question, the petrol smell turned overnight into rather a substantial leak fortunately I'd put a tray underneath and caught a lot of neat petrol. Good thing it wasn't parked up near an ignition source! My guess is that the float has jammed open but why would the petrol still flow when the engine has stopped. The vacuum tap seems to operate properly. With the tank off there is no flow from the tap. Any ideas gratefully received Thanks Dave

Was thinking of getting some good on/off road tyres for my XT 125 X after Cynic mentioned how good the Bridegestone Trailwings are but I'm not quite sure which combination of tyres to get since 17" front tyres are pretty impossible to find. I've read that it is possible to run on two rear tyres so that is what my hopes are. Yamaha XT 125 X (2008) Tyre specifications from the owners manual: Front: 100/80-17 52S Rear: 130/70-17 62S The clearance between the spokes for the front tyre is around 125-130mm so I'm guessing a typical 120mm rear tyre is going to be pretty tight in there. The only 17" Bridegestone Trailwings tyre is a 4.60-17 62P which equates to 116.84 m…

my bike is a 2005 model and i bought an exhaust from a slightly newer model and its not the same . the newer model exhaust is what id consider a 'normal' one , but the one on mine has a pipe going back into the airbox, im guessing to reuse some of the non combusted petrol? what i need to know is will it be okay to run it on the newer exhaust without the 'reburner thing'? hopefully this made sense, ANY help or advise would be greatly appreciated

Hey guys, I have an 03 YZ450F that I just recently bought. After riding a couple weekends I noticed a loud engine noise. To me it sounds like valves knocking. Reading the forums I have found other threads that say it's normal for these bikes, but I just want to be sure before I do anything rash. So...I took a video clip of the bike idling and wanted to see if you guys could take a listen and tell me if i need to worry. Here it is:

The chain needed tightening soo the guy pretty much did it for me and then just an advisory on the front disk pads so when i got home i ordered a pair, should i consider changing the disk at the same time? there seems to be plenty of life left in it ...? All in all VERY happy will be out on it Sunday ........feel like doing some greenlaning i think bloody chuffed to be honest

Hey guys, I have a 1976 RD400, and I have a problem. I'll be gunning it along, and always, when I hit 7000, the bike seems to choke up and splutter., and refuse to rev more. Is it retarded timing or is it needing a carb readjust? Or is there anything else that you would suggest is wrong with it? Advice/knowledge is kindly accepted, haha.
