this is a how to clean a master cylinder. firstly protect the bike with a rag, in case of spillage. empty the M/C. I use a syringe. then remove the banjo bolt, note the washers. the undo the handle bar clamp and carefully remove from the bike. now this is where things will vary, get yourself the correct haynes manual for your bike and follow the instructions. now remove the brake lever. mine had a nut underneath. red arrow. and one on top, red arrow next step for me was to remove the top half of the M/C. undo the two screws, arrowed with the green arrows. this took some pulling and a little gentle prying but it di…

After a some what infamous introduction to the site we finally got things sorted and I promised you all photo's of my conversion from Virago mag wheels to the spoked version. Well It's done and you can view the photo's by clicking on this link. http://s571.beta.photobucket.com/user/ausibatla/library/Yamaha%20wheels#/user/ausibatla/library/Yamaha%20wheels?&_suid=1362796183500046246110570360565 One thing I learned in the process of this project is the mag wheels have a cushion drive and the spoked wheels come without it. It makes no difference to the taking off and changing of gears. Another thing I learnt is it is expensive. These were the costs in Australi…

Hello everyone, My dad and myself recently got a 1987 xv1100 to fix up togehter and turn into a bobber, but it was mostly dissassembled and we seem to be missing a few pieces I need to to know if we legitamatly need or can do without. We seem to be missing a piece called the "sub tank assembly" and we arent really sure what purpose this serves in the function of the engine and if we do in fact need it for it to operate. This is the first motorcycle I have had to work that is carbureted, so most of it is new to me. Any information you guys could provide would be a great help! Thank You!

Some of you may have read my previous post asking advice on a replacement front pipe for my DT. So at first i bought a Big One front tank, as i had a Big One Silencer so assumed they would match. New pipe arrived without issue, looked great, nice and light, everything in order. Also had some new gaskets, so i was all set. Went to replace the front pipe on Monday, removed the seat, tank, panels etc. All fine. Started to unbolt the exhaust, got to the last one, removed it and it fell apart! Turns out the join between the silencer and front pipe was an absolute bodge, (See pictures) and the old silencer wouldn't be suitable for fitting to the new front pipe. I also had…

Headlight gone! Checked to see what the problem was and the little metal terminal that the wire clips onto has snapped clean off. I tried loctite but failed miserably. Looks like I'll have to buy a new headlight unit.

Hi guys, had some good feedback and answers from the posts i have put on here. Just had my bike out the shop, which cost me a fair bit of cash, and i was wondering whether there are any lads in manchester that are up for small jobs in the future to save me some money, not very mechanically minded myself but do love bikes! Bike is due an mot, and i know there are a few things that need doing to get it through such as fork seals. If not i dont mind taking it to the garage as i get receipts just want to save a bit.

Hi recently bought a 1985 DT 125 in fairly good condition for my son. No leaks, starts first time on kick. however the problem comes in when riding its not idling properly and when reaching high revs it seem to cutout. 2 questions really; Is it compression related? Is it carb related, if Carb, how does one get instructions on setting the carb appropriately. Help

this is a how to on bleeding front brakes. firstly put a sheet over the bike to protect it in case of spillage, this was a brand new master cylinder. so was empty. and sheet is not in these pics as these are from when i fitted it. 1 remove the top of master cylinder. mine has two screws, careful not to chew these up. 2 then remove the top and any other bits inside. like these. 3 remove this rubber diaphram 4 connect the bleed pipe to the nipple and loosen off the nipple about one and half turns. be careful not to chew up the nipple and if it aint moving then squirt it with some penetrating spray and go for a brew and then come back…

Noticed the other day my rear brake was pretty weak so decided to have look and what I discovered was pretty disturbing. My workstation State of rear brake pads - I do check my pads from time to time and It took a while for me to notice the actual pad has worn. I should have checked thoroughly so this doesn't end up happening. Dirty axle - The axle was also in a terrible state. As well as changing the pads, I spend some time greasing up the axle and the space for it through the wheel. I took it out for a ride straight after and I was surprised how light and lose the ride felt. It didn't feel like the old ride, felt much snappier and f…

I managed to f'up the sump thread by over-tightening the plug using a torque wrench. Very basic error I know and I'm ashamed to admit it! Does anyone know or can recommend where I can go and get it fixed. Either Helicoil or similar in SW London. I wouldn't even attempt it myself. I spoke to the local bike garage and they reckon a tap might work (as they don't do Helicoils) but I have no idea about tap (and dies) and if it will result in a bigger sump plug being needed. Again a job I wouldn't feel confident in doing. I've looked on-line and there are a lot of positive reports about Helicoil lasting better then original threads.

Some of you have probably encountered this problem. Just wired up some new led indicators and they all flash when i turn them on. There was a relay that came with them but i have no clue if it fits anywhere as the relay under the seat is 4-pin and i cant find any other. Can you point me in the direction of something that will fix this , i know resistors work with it somehow but which ones. Thanks in advance
