i have a dt its registered as a 50cc 1993 model but it has a 125 engine fitted, now the previous owner said he thinks its a 05+ engine but is not sure i was wondering if there's ways i could tell what year it is buy certain parts and another thing it need a new piston kit and i was wondering should i get the vertex piston kit that's £56.95 or the mitaka piston kit that's £39 is the vertex one much better for the £16 difference. Im planning on doing a few things as I am going to keep this bike for 1 year so i then have 2 years no claims and do my full bike test within the next year, any advice would be perfect as I've only ever worked on moped engines but i have some k…

Hi every body. my names Nathan im from leeds I'm new to this club i have been recovering from a accident on my yamaha dt 125 re and as a result my bike has bin stood for ten month. I changed engine oil, 2stroke oil, water and coolant. I checked spark plug and it was sparking perfectly. It was riding perfect for about a hour then cut out on me It wouldn't start so I bumped it but it kept cutting out when I took revs off. I bumped it again and rode it for about ten min hoping it was 2 do with the battery as it kept running flat when trying to start it. It cut out on me whilst riding after ten min and wouldn't bump.when I did have it started it wouldn't tick over. I have put…

Hi Guys, I have a 1991 XJ600 which has been stood for 10 years, its running now after a carb and brake overhaul and recently passed its MOT, However the ride was very jerky and gear changing could be clunky up and down the box. I replaced the cush rubber but would just like some opinions on the end result. The story..............There was quite a bit of movement of the rear sprocket as the chain took up the strain and before the rear wheel started to move, I believe this was down to worn cush rubbers. With the bike on the centre stand and in gear I could turn the rear wheel forwards and backwards between 1/2" - 3/4" before the drive train stopped the movement. …

I am recently encountering a strange problem with my bike. The bike starts normally, however when I try to switch lights, they don't switch on (Neither of them ie indicator , headlamps, brake). I thought it was a battery problem so i changed the battery, however this doesn't seem to be the case. What else can I check? Thanks a lot

Hi all, I have a really annoying (and expensive) problem, My bike keeps killing plugs, If i put a new plug in it will start first kick and run perfectly all day with no problems at all but as soon as i go to start it the following day it will start up, idle then as i put revs on it will bork then die (killing plug). The spark plugs are black when i take them out, Could this be caused by the air mix screw on the carb running too rich?? Any help will be much appreciated Thanks

First off.. Hello everyone! I am a new member just made my first post in the n00b section. I have a lot of experience with 70's two stroke mopeds (I'm in a moped "gang") and I recently hitched to San Fran and stepped it up to a little moto that's acting like a rotten moped. BACKGROUND. Sooo. My bike first began it's woes when it would not start up after having just ran.. after cooling off it would start right back up sometimes with a backfire.. Then the problem increased to cutting out while it was running.. Now it doesn't start at all or runs for a few minutes.. The spark seems to be the issue... The lights and horn never failed also The points and condenser …

Hi All, I'm looking at a "Barn Find" 1985 DT125 LC for a friend. Just taken off the tank and found loads of wires going nowhere, no wonder I can't get a spark! I've done some digging on the net and found that some are for the power valve control (not fitted), but still I think there are too many without homes. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Mike

So I've managed to kill my Yuasa YTX7L-BS 12V 6A battery after 5 months and optimiate is struggling to keep it alive. I've been on the hunt for a new battery and came across Lithium Ion Batteries and also the MotoBatt AGM type costing £72.50 and £40.50 respectively. After reading more about the Lithium Ion batteries, I get the notion that it isn't a drop in replacement for lead-acid batteries as their charging is controlled by some sort of microprocessor which could fool your bike into thinking the battery is full, preventing it from being charged at all. I'm not sure how much of that is fact and if the Sky Rich Li batteries actually work fine without issues. I also ta…

Hi Everyone, My first post here so I hope I'm on the right area of the forum and profuse apologies if all this has been asked before, I did a search but could not find anything to answer my query, which is... Tried to start the bike a couple of days ago and turned over very sluggish and would not catch. When I got home from work I looked at the battery and there was no fluid visible that I could see. Thought it would be toasted by I topped it up with distilled water and what do you know, it started the bike and has held a good charge since, (checked this with a multimeter 12.7v). Anyhow when the bike is running the battery is bubbling away like a boiling kettle and…

My XT600 was stolen from outside my house, so i brought the cheapest bike i could... Been a XJ600 from ebay 360 quid... But came to do the mirror repairs needed for a MOT and came across this problem that has thrown me completely: My XJ600 wont run in netrual if the side stand is down... Keep the clutch pulled and it'll run, let go and it stops with the stand down... Side Stand up and it'll sit in netrual no problems... The Netrual light is on in netrual and the light goes off in gear. Theres no wierd noises from the engine. I know about the kill switch on the stand, but i thought that only worked if i put her in gear... Any ideas as what the problem could be?…

My son has a Aerox 50 2005 which has been a pain since we bought it in July 2012. It was OK for 2 months but since has been slowing up and sometimes not starting. It has standard head, but has Leo Vince exhaust. When it first played up, i bought new plug, coil, carb none fixed it , ended up buying new battery. It has 2 main problems, it slows going up hills and once speed lost does not seem to want to pick speed up again once on flat. The other is he can ride for hour stop somewhere for hour, when he tries to start it refuses to fire. At the moment it wont start again. Spark look fine, there is fuel getting to carb. If you remove plug and dry it does fire but not start a…

hi just wiondering what the idle speed for an rxs 100 is supiosed to be? finaly got round to fiering it up after changing the head. i will add that i did not know if the 2 stroke oil pump worked so i made a 25% premixed oil/fule just to be on the safe side.. any way the pump works so now i have a lot of smoke but thats to be expected with the amount of oil in the fule. any way.. i tried to set the idle rpm at the little 1 on the clock. but it stalls at 1 unless i give it some revs. it idles fine at about 1.5 though so thought id come check the recomended idle rpm.. the down pipe seems to have a hole in it if that will affect it so i will be fixin…

Be aware that a missing chain ring can cause an annoying click click click related to engine speed. Must have dropped one when last cleaning/lubing the chain a couple of weeks ago, buggered up the connecting link even though the rest of the chain is in good order

So today I attempted to fit my new xenon bulbs bought from eBay. Firstly what a complete ballache head fuck it was just to gain access to the headlight bulbs. Anyway the bulbs I received were not the bayonet type fitting, so I could not fit them. I was fuming. Am I missing something? i.e. do I have to modify the fitting or something? It states on the advert that they just replace the old bulbs with no modifications needed. Anyway when I finally fixed everything back together, my high beam is the only light that works and not my sidelight. I am well pissed off. Have I been sent the wrong bulbs or do I have to do something to modify the fitting? (which I am not prepared…
