This has been a year long saga, but am not going to re-write war and peace here! Oil Pump on DT has never worked. Took it off and found that the big cog inside the pump that connects to the drive shaft of the engine was burred and shredded. You could turn it by hand and the adjusting pump moves up and down fine. I have inspected the drive from the engine and it has no visible defects and when I turn the kick-start it turns fine - so no issue there. I put another oil pump on with a fresh cog, started the engine and that pump didn't work. Took it all off again only to find that cog stripped too (ruined another oil pump!). So - 2 screws, make sure it is seated ok, noth…

Hello all, I have a '81 SR250 with a busted valve adjusting screw. Having a bit of a problem finding the correct size. All the microfiche images call out a # 3Y1-12159-00-00 which has been superceeded by # 2NX-12159-00-00. I have ordered both of these numbers from the internet and received a part which has a diameter of 5MM and a 0.75 thread pitch. However in my bike is a 7MM with a 0.75 thread pitch. I can find nowhere on the net that describes the dimensions of these parts. My assumption is that somtime in the past a previous owner must have put an alternate set of rocker arms in the top of this motor for whatever reason. Does anyone out there have some refer…

Hello All I'm new to this and posted my quesxtion in the wrong place. I recently traded for a 77 XS400 that was mostly in parts. I'm a retired auto mechanic and have some mechanical ability, so it didn't take long for me to get it up and running with a little aid from a used Yamaha manual. I want to change the handlebars and have been unable to get the screws out of the right side switch assm. The heads were torn down to nothing from someone else attempting to remove them. I cut a slot across the screw with a cutoff wheel on a Dremel tool but that just made things worse. I've been looking for a photo of the assembly apart or a diagram to see if I cut the head…

Ok I just bought a project bike. It's an fzr600 f reg. It has had loads if mods done to the bike but I want to put it back to original. Well at least try anyway. I'm finding it hard to get hold of a sub frame as the one on the bike has been chopped for a single seat conversation. Also when I go to start the bike its like it's not getting any power. The lights work but when the start button is pressed they do very dim. I have charged the battery but still no different. Please help

ok back at the rxs today. il just give a summary so things are known. and this thread will probably be in use for a while.. Got the rxs for free from a friend (actually swaped it for a bed) My friend said that he bought it from a guy who said it had gone through its last mot no probs and had a new piston and rings. my friend had the bike and noticed it was low on power and repetedly tried to clean the carb. hes not an expert or anything but im sure he could manage that. as we used to work on engines together just tinkering "as you do" I got the bike and checked it over and found the spark plug had been over tightend. so i replaced the head. i have all the gaskets …

So I've read a plethora of resources and online pages/blogs about performing a swap of the front end on my 77, but I can't seem to figure out one thing. There seems to be a variety of front ends that can be used for a conversion to a beefier/newer setup like from the Ninja's, but I'm curious if all of these require additional work due to steering stem length... Are there any compatible front ends that have the right bearings and stem length to basically be a "plug and play" setup? I'd like to do the conversion, but I'm looking for the easiest route possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Most of the online resources I checked or was directed to have loads of …

  11. Hiya All, So was solving the problem i last posted (wont ideal in netraul while on side stand) by putting a new engine in. Had enough of the old one, loud knocking, slipping in 6th gear, neutral problem... final straw was had to bump start it one day and i couldn't get the bike rolling with the clutch lever pulled in while in anygear... so assumed "Gotta be the cable, need to adjust it" still couldnt get it rolling anyway i adjusted it... so thought "thats it, engine is fucked, clutch is fucked, fuck it get a new engine..." next day i have a 23k engine ready to fit on sunday just gone... ALot of me "been a twat" and now i have the engine in wired up, chain on and …

Hi all After starting off on a ybr125 about 5 years ago, then switching over the Honda (NSR125, XL125 varadero and CB250 superdream) I have just bought a 1991 XJ600 pre diversion, in pretty good shape with just over 42k miles on it. It seems to run pretty well so far, apart from one thing. The gear changes. The gear lever is pretty "mushy" feeling and going up into neutral is very hard. It also seems as though the lever is a little bit higher than I would like as its a bit far from the top of my boot, so I have to strain to shift up, if that makes any sense? It appears as though there is a linkage on this gear change lever, so I can assume that some aspec…

  14. hi is there any tutorials on here to replace the crank or does anybody know of any sites that has one?

  15. just wondering if anyone can shed any light on my issue. I've just bought this bike as a project i has a flat spot at about 1500 to about 2000rpm. i believe its been bored out to 810cc has a lazer can and K@N filter. i know for a fact that this bike has been dynojet at some point by the previous owner. From reading the printout i have. The 1st run there was hickup in the power curve up to 4000rpm for the 2nd run :- 120 mains, needle grv 4(no Spacer) idle 3.5 turns out. this had seem to fixed the power delivery to 400rpm. but its still ropey to 2000rpm

Hi all, just wondering if there is any tips around for getting a stubborn air screw out of a carb? The head has nothing left on it to grip and it's pretty small to get at, i was thinking maybe to buy an extractor kit but if there's a cheaper alternative i'd rather do that. Thanks in advance

After 30 odd years of biking, I've done summit I thought I'd never do. My boy rides a 1992 SR125 and last week I ordered a chain and sprocket set. I took my time ordering and pointed out it was a 92 SE model. Anyway I removed the chain, rivetted link, front and rear sprocket. Front sprocket no probs, Rear sprocket, the bolt holes do not line up. I measured between the centres and there was a difference of 12mm. The new sprocket was 80mm and the old was 92mm. As I said Needs Must and my boy needed the bike for work this afternoon and college tomorrow, so I had to put the old sprocket, which by the way was well past its sell by date, back on the wheel. Not ideal and prolo…

I know there's been loads of posts recently about this subject, but I'm still none the wiser. It is pitch black by 17:00 now and the headlight on my XT 125 X is just not acceptable, it is in fact useless, and I'm starting to question whether it is even bright enough for other motorists to see properly! It is starting to make me feel unsafe. I know the HID kits are a no no because they are illegal, so what is the best option to go for? L.E.D.? Xenon? Something else? Because the above are supposed to be crap as well.

Hi All I have just bought a 1992 xv750 virago as seen for 100 gb pounds. Pipes off, rear puncture., no battery, siezed center stand, extreeeemly stiff side stand, juice in the tank but cant unlock the filler, hard shiny tyres and its looking a bit sorry for itself. Probably missing small bits and bolts. I have been told that the clutch plates are siezed but the clutch lever feels right. You cant push it when it is gear so I dont know if it is the clutch or if the engines siezed. Hooked up a battery with jump leads and I have lights, indicators on one side and idiot lights. My first query is whats the knack to getting it on the center stand now I have freed…

  20. Hi, got the bike idling fine but it just wont rev out past about 5 or 6k. I have uploaded a video to youtube here: Had the carb to bits a few times and it all looks good, only thing I noticed was I have an 82 main jet and the book says 88...? It will sit there idling happily all day just wont rev well, it has a new barrel and piston (am6 engine and dellorto phbn12 carb. Choke on/off makes little difference Starting to think it might be electrical as the bike had been left out in the rain before I got it and every electrical connection was corroded, all connections gone through and fixed now though...new ht lead and plug cap. Exhaust isn…
