Alright folks The boy has been putting some miles in on his Virago, but I have noticed a very small oil leak from front of the left hand casing. Originally I thought the casing has had a repair (green arrow) carried out and it was leaking from there, but on closer inspection I'm thinking it's coming from the oil seal at the starter (red arrow). Anyone have any experience of this, is it common or what. Obviously as a long time owner of auld Triumphs I dont think its much to worry about, but t'lad doesnt want an oil leak.

Hi all, My YBR 125 starts fine if I bump it. It then runs fine. There is plenty of juice in the battery (was at 12.5, but tried trickling it up to 13.3 over night just to be sure, but was to no avail). When I press the starter button NOTHING happens: no dimming of headlight, no volts getting to the positive connector on the side of the starter, no audible click from any relays. I tried kicking the side and centre stands up and down lots and worked it up and down the gears lots (as I say it runs fine if I bump start it), did this to try to rule out any switches from the stands or gearbox being broken which might stop the motor. So I'm guessing it'll be a simp…

I was out on my moped then suddenly the engine cut out. I got it started again but it cut again. While it is running it struggles to reach 30mph when usually it gets up to 50 mph plus. Anyone know what could be the problem.

I have copies of both schematics and both bikes use the same parts. Cdi, flasher relay, side stand relays..... My only question is on the fz, there is one wire leading back to the flasher relay. The fj uses 2 wires. One goes to the flasher relay and the other goes to the starter switch. Being both bikes have the same engine, and same parts why the extra wire on the fj and is it needed?

The Radian has thrown a wobbler a couple of times this last week by failing to start. On the face of it, it seems to me like the battery is shagged, since the motor does not turn over with any oomphh. Battery charged up, fired up nicley, 14.7 volts going in at 5,000rpm, starter relay/alternator check out as ok Out of interest, stripped out the starter motor. Cleaned up the comm, bit discloured but fine apart from that, brushes all good and metered out ok, bearings/gears fine. Reassembled it, and noted that when assembled its not the easiest to turn the pinion gear shaft due to the field created by the magnets that form part of the case. Ordinarily, I would have ex…

Hi peeps. I was down the local racetrack the other day, driving along fine. I went to change gear and the bike died and the rev counter dropped to zero, then fired up again and all was well, for about 1 min then it dies, in the same way, but this time didn't start up. I'm on the fooking motorway BTW! So I pull over and go to start it again. It starts, but as soon as the rev counter hits 5k, it dies. Complete electrical failure, lights the lot. Leave it a couple of seconds and it'll fire up but dies again at 5k! Any ideas? Has anyone had the same problem with their bike?

Hi All I'm working on a project to fix a yamaha diversion XJ600 1994 but have stupidly but cheaply bought a 1998 engine with hardly any mileage on it. Is there anything I salvage off the old 1994 model, everything else was working fine just had to replace the engine (bearing on drive shaft exploded into the engine). I realize that I need to change the carbs, oil cooler, fuel pump and throttle position sensor , just wondering if I need to change the air box, starter motor and any of the electrics ? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I'm new! :') I was recently given a '98 135 Virago. My father delivered it for a rich kid and he said 'Nope, don't want it, the electrics are knackered' so the kids father ended up giving it to my father. And still paid him for delivery. AND made him a cuppa! Well, turns out, all that was wrong was the fuse had blown. So we changed that and it worked fine. Now, for the questions! Please bear in mind I know very little about bikes, so sorry in advance for my helpfulness! :') But I digress.. The problem is the choke. If I move the lever, the wire doesn't move through the black plastic casing, it just sort of bends…

Hello my dear Yamaha fellow So, in last year, when moto season was going to the end, my lil' yamaha was started to have problem with "coming to live" aka starting up. I tried to figure out, whats the problem, but no success. So I parked and prepared my yamaha for winter. So, in recently days, I found myself that spring and moto season is not far, so i get my yamaha out of "winter sleep" and started whatcing and searching for the problem. Me and my dad feagured out, that problem may be in starter, so i take out starter form under of engine and opened it. It was full of dust and black inside. Starter coils was in very dramatic situation, too. So I cheanged them. S…

I have recently been advised by the services to replace my sprockets and chain. Even though my bike has only done 6k miles. Could be the fact I do a 40 mile commute. They quoted me £173 for a Yamaha chain and for it to be fitted (this is obviously robbery), I have been looking at D.I.D chains. But the latest I can find is 2010, does this really matter? I have noticed the older the model the cheaper the chain becomes. I just want to know if I can fit one of these 2006-2010 chains onto my bike without it messing it up? Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanking in advance.
