  1. My 1991 Pre diversion XJ600 now runs well, after sorting out the carbs, ignition and exhaust problems - see elsewhere for details - and as I was starting to use it, the one remaining bugbear was that gear selection was very clonky into first, tended to drag with the clutch pulled in and the bike in gear, and last but not least - when the bike was fully warmed up it was next to impossible to select Neutral from either first or second when at a standstill - eg in a traffic queue or waiting at the lights. As I said at the time - "The clutch works OK, but drags enough to make selecting neutral on a hot engine very difficult. I should probably just change the oil, bu…

So thought I would pop out for a nice ride this afternoon. Nice to get out on Christmas day when the roads are fairly empty and thought the weather is not gonna be great for next 2 months. Not entirely sure what happened beyond I lost traction whilst accelerating. This the result ; Past me - 'Do I want to pay £100 + for engine protectors? Nah' So looks like I wont be riding for a while. Think my pride is hurt worse than I am though so I guess that is good.

I'm new here but I just rebuilt my 77 DT400. New wiseco piston, boyeson reeds, new mikuni 34mm carb, penton ignition. my shop tells me there are a couple 'tricks' to assembling the crank case so it works properly. I have three manuals to work from...didn't see anything out of the ordinary. this is my first bike rebuild. I assembled it in neutral and now it is 'stuck' in neutral...it runs but won't go in gear. should it have been assembled with the 1st gear cogs engaged? the shift cam slid the forks okay in halves. what did I miss???? mrcbody

Rant Rant Moan Moan! Probably should post this in workshop, but I need a moan too. On the way to work today, thinking "hmm, that engine sounds a little off...", stopped at a junction... and the engine stalled. Tried to start it back up; it'd catch then instantly die again. Discovered that if I gave it some initial revs it'd keep running. If I slowly rolled off the throttle, it'd keep running. If I blipped it, or quickly rolled off, it'd instantly stall. Now, I think it was fine in getting off, because the engine temp was only ~50C and the EFI was still giving it a bit more welly. Once it warmed up, it was back to normal, and the basically …

Although after I've washed it I've left it running for 5 minutes to dry off the engine and I've now got a engine management light Come up? I'm a car mechanic but have never delt with motorbikes, how do I reset it ?! I've only done 400miles! Thanks in advance guys!

I'm still in the middle of a front brake calliper rebuild, and have noticed that the standard rubber hose that Yamaha provided is most definitely on the way out. What about braided lines? Worth the extra money? Decent for every day use? Are the claims of better feel true?

Good morning all I have just signed up as i have a issue with my 2010 XT125 R and i was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue of know of a fix. I recently bought my XT125 and it was running fine, but recently i have started to notice a kind of whine in 3rd and 4th coming from the left side of the engine which i assume is the gear box? Also i have started to notice that it is sounding noisy from the left side also when the bike is free rolling. It kinda sounds like when a push bike is free rolling. Has any one had this before? is it normal? is there a fix? Cheers Matt

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on this really - Some people consider the throttle to be over response if in 1st/2nd gear at around 18-30mph - I remember this was mentioned in a few reviews when the MT-09 was released. Suggestions I have seen to address this; Fit an after market fuel injection tuner thing - (probably a better description for this)Fit a different sized/shaped cam on the throttle to extend the first 1/4 of openingCheck for/remove slack on throttle cableAdjust the 'CO settings' to make the fuel mixture richerGet the ECU reflashed by the dealerI am fairly happy with the throttle response, I only began looking into when someone else mentioned it. Hi there folks, Fairly recently, I purchased a 1975 Ag175 (If I can work out how to add a picture, I will). It's in good condition with, seemingly, about 5,000kms under its belt. I gave things a reasonable clean up (carb, points, oil) and got her going and running OK. Lacks power, but smooth enough. Upon getting hot, she blows a large amount of white smelly smoke. Assuming this was gearbox oil coming through the crank seals, I changed out both and the thin o-ring on the right hand side. I also cleaned out the exhaust pipe, although this was pretty clear. Finally, I also pulled off the head and barrel. I didn't measure anything up, but it looked pretty good, with some hone…

I was at work today and I got a phone call from my mum saying the police were at my address and that they had pulled over a van containing my bike. The pricks had come into the car park (Shared by Leicestershire police) and put the bike in their van. They managed to make it 3 miles with the bike before being pulled over for looking shifty as f**k. I have posted my place of work and the fact I had a new bike on this forum, and I do wonder if they have been scouting on here and decided to come and collect it. Needless to say, I will be chaining it to a lamppost from now on (When I eventually get it back from the police) One of the guys has been caught, and the other 2 ran o…

Right, my front brake is sized on, it seems to be stuck about 25-30% on, I got it running after a while out of the game due to MOT and money problems and went to the shop the get fuel, the fuel had been sitting in the bike for close to 2 months so it needed some new stuff before the 10 mile trip I had to make. But the bike wouldn't move properly, I got to the fuel station, put it on the centre stand and checked, the front brake was stuck on a little bit, and the brake disk was so hot that when I put a few drops of water onto it they boiled before I could withdraw my hand. So, half way through the calliper rebuild I find myself with no idea which brake fluid the bike nee…

  19. Hey y'all I bought an old 79 Yamaha IT 250. It was in running condition (albeit poor) out the back of the tail pipe oil would drip out and the acceleration was gutless. The previous owner suggested maybe it was from an incorrect oil/fuel ratio. No big deal. I got it home and started to go to work on the carb, thinking that it was just an overly rich fuel mixture I looked at the needle jet position... it was adjusted to the next lean setting. So I moved the adjustment to the leanest position and fired it up. the problem persisted, oil coming out of the tailpipe and no balls. When I tried to tune the carb's throttle adjustment, the engine run away from me. I knew th…
