Hi there folks, Fairly recently, I purchased a 1975 Ag175 (If I can work out how to add a picture, I will). It's in good condition with, seemingly, about 5,000kms under its belt. I gave things a reasonable clean up (carb, points, oil) and got her going and running OK. Lacks power, but smooth enough. Upon getting hot, she blows a large amount of white smelly smoke. Assuming this was gearbox oil coming through the crank seals, I changed out both and the thin o-ring on the right hand side. I also cleaned out the exhaust pipe, although this was pretty clear. Finally, I also pulled off the head and barrel. I didn't measure anything up, but it looked pretty good, with some hone…

I was at work today and I got a phone call from my mum saying the police were at my address and that they had pulled over a van containing my bike. The pricks had come into the car park (Shared by Leicestershire police) and put the bike in their van. They managed to make it 3 miles with the bike before being pulled over for looking shifty as f**k. I have posted my place of work and the fact I had a new bike on this forum, and I do wonder if they have been scouting on here and decided to come and collect it. Needless to say, I will be chaining it to a lamppost from now on (When I eventually get it back from the police) One of the guys has been caught, and the other 2 ran o…

Right, my front brake is sized on, it seems to be stuck about 25-30% on, I got it running after a while out of the game due to MOT and money problems and went to the shop the get fuel, the fuel had been sitting in the bike for close to 2 months so it needed some new stuff before the 10 mile trip I had to make. But the bike wouldn't move properly, I got to the fuel station, put it on the centre stand and checked, the front brake was stuck on a little bit, and the brake disk was so hot that when I put a few drops of water onto it they boiled before I could withdraw my hand. So, half way through the calliper rebuild I find myself with no idea which brake fluid the bike nee…

Hey y'all I bought an old 79 Yamaha IT 250. It was in running condition (albeit poor) out the back of the tail pipe oil would drip out and the acceleration was gutless. The previous owner suggested maybe it was from an incorrect oil/fuel ratio. No big deal. I got it home and started to go to work on the carb, thinking that it was just an overly rich fuel mixture I looked at the needle jet position... it was adjusted to the next lean setting. So I moved the adjustment to the leanest position and fired it up. the problem persisted, oil coming out of the tailpipe and no balls. When I tried to tune the carb's throttle adjustment, the engine run away from me. I knew th…

Hi all Have noticed that while messing about with my Mikuni TM 28 carb that bike revs so much better with snorkel out, but as average temp here is about 78, have to be carefull about overheating due to extra air flow, what has anybody else found with the snorkel as in or out being better. also i must have been lucky with my previous 2 strokes which i never touched Carburetor wise ( this is the rant bit ) as i have had the mikuni in and out more times then the Pope has said Amen, i have researched so much info on carb but there seems to be no definitive setup mine is not happy with a 240 or 230 Jet 220 jet for my carb runs best but still working on idle which is crap and…

Hello everyone, new to posting this forum thing, so if I'm posting in a wrong section or whatever let me know but I've been reading stuff on here to help with my bike for a while now so thought I'd get involved! My 99 dtr recently had a top end done (like 220 miles ago) got it back did about 50 miles, and sent it straight back to the garage, as it was like as if it was running on choke, flooding itself and dying etc -,- anyway got it back and it's been fine since. Done like another 150 miles, and noticed this past week or so it's been overheating like hell, doesn't go into the red, but scarily close. And my little tank at the back has bubbled and sucked all my coolant …

Most pertinently - is there one? I can find Haynes manuals for all other years and capacities of DT but not the 1981 250MX. There are Clymer manuals from America. Any one had any experience with these? Would they differ that much from a Haynes manual apart from maybe using different measurements? Cheers.

Hi guys. Got a DT 125 MX for a project. The previous owner bored it, not sure how far oversize he went though. he also fit a ktm racing muffler and cone filter. It's suffered 33 years of abuse, so I plan to do a full engine rebuild. Parts aren't difficult to find, neither was the Haynes manual... but a parts catalogue is, I can only find the one for the liquid cooled model.. Does anyone know where I can find one? I'd like to be able to search for parts by their number to avoid compatibility issues. Does anyone have/ know where I can get a parts catalogue? Also, it's moody when it comes to starting, I think its running rich on both jets, for these reasons: 1) i can …

Hi I was already having an minor issue with the bike misfiring and losing power. Had to take it in to Yamaha (they bent me over) and have the carbs cleaned, new plugs. She now runs well all the way through the gears when warm but in the mornings its taking up to 20 minutes to get it started through a mixture of bumping, turning over on starter (without killing it), and bumping again. It will stall on the tickover a good 3 or 4 times on or off choke. Full choke will not increase idle speed. If I rev it, it almost dies, then slowly increases to a rattly mid high range rpm without that deep pop/firing sound I would expect from a happy warm engine. Go back to start of the yea…

I have been riding 125's now for four years now and I really need to move on, I planned on doing the test this year but got made redundant in January and it completely messed my life up financially. I am definitely ready for a bigger bike. I think I didn't do it sooner because I was scared of failing. I love my WR and will still keep it, my plan is to buy a superbike to use on a weekend and keep the WR for commuting. The fuel economy is excellent and it is comfortable to ride. I'm just in the process now of learning the theory and hazard perception and once I have passed that I will be straight in for the practical. I'm working that many hours lately that I don't get much…

HI y'all, I have enjoyed 500 miles on my xj600 this year but decided that I want to make a few mods, so it is time to pull her apart and make some changes over winter.... I have looked on xjrider.com and a lot of the diversion owners are swapping for fzr front ends and swing arms, so I am looking to do the same to the earlier model... was wondering whether anyone with a 3HE would mind taking a few measurements and letting me know. Prior to having an ebay buying session, I would like to get an idea of what I am likely to have to chop and change..... I really only wanted distance between centres of the forks at the top, overall open length of forks, distance between fork…
