For the Vintage Yamahas

  1. Started by billy10hats,

Greetings everyone, I recently bought a Yamaha Virago 250 1994. I went riding on it the other day and it just started to splutter to a halt "help i thought im in the xxxx". I then tried to start it but it would not have it, i then checked all the obvious like plugs, fuel pump etc... I think it is carburetor trouble. Does anyone know how to disconnect the two throttle cables and the choke cable from the carb ? I need to take carb out and check starter jet, and clean it. Any advice would be appreciated very much. cheers Trev PS Hi Frank, Yep checked plugs and they were dry when i was trying to start engine. I have just taken carb out, and checked starter…

Hello folk`s i`m new here. recently bought an old YPVS in a very bad state for a project bike,i hope this will be a good place to find out just what model bike it is?,frame plate has model type 31K,engine and frame numbers start with 54,body work looks like it`s an F model,it does not have the mechanical tacho drive like the lc2,so i`m wondering why the chassis plate says model type 31K,and not 57V?,any info would be just dandy!,will also have a few part`s for sale at some point if any one need`s or know`s somebody lookin for some bit`s…

Hi all, As I posted earlier my oil press. switch is not working. I took it out and tested it with an ohmmeter today and I got about 40 on the R x 1k scale. I'm not sure if it's normal or not. Since there's no pressure the contact should be connected (grounded), hance, the ohms should be close to 0 (current can go through, lite up the indicator) . Am I right?

i have an 1980 DT125 that i have been restoring. took the carb out and cleaned it, new fuel cock, everything de-greased but keep coming up with the same problem. i use the choke out to start it and wait till it warms up and idles at about 2k and then when i put the choke in the bike dies. i can ride the bike with the choke out and it rides fine but once i put the choke in while riding and i slow down and downshift, the bike loses power and dies. anyone have any suggestions to try. thanks.

bike worked fine, then i changed the handle bars, in doing so i did break the throttle cable. but anyway now the clutch wont disengage.. and the cable is not broken, and i've playing with adjustment. i cannot get the back tire to spin freely in gear. and in neutral the kick start spins the tire.

We bought our son a older Yamaha as his first 'project'. The sellers had let us know it probably needed a new piston/rings - I was trying to find these for him, but I'm getting conflicting information out there on exactly what year/make this bike is....it says: AT1 - 171537. Is it indeed an AT1? Someone thought AT2. 1970?71? Any help to get this 12 year old started would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  20. Started by plain old dave,

Saw a '78 RD400 at a local cruise-in Saturday night with 4.10-18 Dunlop K81s on it, I think. Didn't see any sign of interference (raw spots on tires), but they DID almost look out of proportion. Given that both 3.00-18s and 3.50-18s are difficult to find in quality tires on this side of the pond, what's the next conventional size up from 3.00-18? I like a slightly narrower tire on front than on back, and if the ol' K70 is still made in 4.10-18, that's what's going on back of my XS400E next.
