  1. Started by plain old dave,

Can't figure out how to search for it, but somebody recently mentioned a big bore kit they saw for an XS400. Kawasaki pistons, maybe?

  6. I recently got the engine cases powder coated on my YCS3. You need to strip out all oil seals and mechanisms that may get damaged by the blasting process or the heat when the powder coat is baked in oven. To remove the worm drive/clutch actuating arm I had to file the end of the worm drive shaft where it is peened over the metal arm. When the cases came back nicely painted I had to weld the arm to the shaft as there was no spare metal left to peen over, all the time worrying about the heat damaging the new paint or the oil seal. It did work tho. I want to do the cases on my AS3 and RD125A which have similar mechanisms but the arm is held on in a slightly …

  7. Tried all sorts of wiring bypasses on the Green Machine, and no joy on the headlights. Tach lights work fine, so I think the last speedo light finally burnt out. Best I can tell, I have several options. 1) Replace lights in extant gauge 2) Used gauge 3) NOS gauge I have a line on both used AND NOS XS400 speedo gauges, so finding a new one ain't a prob. I don't mind spending moeny on this bike as I like it. Question, though, is is it even possible to replace burnt out illumination bulbs on the gauges? Not worried about 'em being hard to find; if they exist, I'll find'em. I am busily launching a hard-to-find bike parts business here locally.

Hi there I have a 1983 DT100, and it wont run with the choke off unless it is at very high revs. I was going to check the carbie out. Does anyone have an electonic copy of a manual for the DT100 (1983) that they could point me to? Or can anyone tell me what the float height should be? Many thanks Benj

Hello, I just got myself a 1976 DT125c. The clutch is really hard to pull. I checked that cable is fine and the pin is straight.. What else could it be?? Thanks! Serge

  10. Started by XS 500,

Went off the road today with my XS 500 -78. The only damage seems to be that the gear lever went up, shifted through the gears to fifth and then the shift shaft snapped straight off at the lock ring where it enters the gearbox. Now I simply wonder, how much must I pull apart in order to get the last piece out and get the new shaft in.

  11. Started by TTR600,

Hello all. Has anyone attempted/completed this conversion and if so what lighting coil did they use? I have done this conversion on my 86 TT350 using the XT350 lighting coils and regulator/rectifier this was an easy conversion as i used parts from the road variant. The DT on the other hand is the road version. I have tried the L31 lighting coil for motocross bikes but this is only single wire so i lost the green/white wire which then changes to the white that goes to the rectifier, Since removing this wire i have no neutral light and no oil light on the revcounter. I would like to know if there is another lighting coil that would fit this that has the two wires and is 12…

Hey guys, First off this is my first post in the forum, second I have a 1977 xs500d that was my grandfathers bike. after receiving it a few months ago i took on the job of getting it running and usable again. I have however run into a snag: after the bike has been running a while and has gotten hot the right cylinder will cut out. I have torn down the carbs twice and cleaned them and re synced them. does anybody have an idea of what could be going on. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you -Rob

Hey guys I have a question for you cafe racer dudes. I have read somewhere that the old fzr rearsets can easily bolt up to the xs400. can anyone confirm this? I hate the current pegs and set.

  16. So, my saga with the SR 250 continues. It keeps on cutting out. Have booked a mechanic to take a look at it. In the meanwhile, can someone please tell me how to connect the cdi directly to the coil. bypassing all the bad word cables. I want to leave light/horn/tun signals as they are, just want to make sure the CDI has a good (read direct) connetion to the coil. Please help, I'm about to cry already

But once the guy came and dropped off the bike the head light doesnt work at all. I thought maybe he banged it and it went out. But i just put a new bulb in and still nothing can anyone tell me where the headlight fuse might be? or what they might think made the light not work.

Hi all Would you believe the DT has done the piston and rings again and it's a diffrent engine. Any way the thing is I took the head and barrel of(getting good at this) and found rings shagged and piston knacked but what I found strange is there is oil in the crankshaft as far as I know there should be no oil there,as I turn the engine over with the kickstart the crank comes up soaked in oil.Any ideas lads,is it a full strip down and seals or worse as in crack between crankcase and gearbox. Cheers all Daz
