Does anyone know where i can get fuel tap gaskets for an xs1100 special or if the gasket for any of the other models has the same dimensions to replace my worn and leaky ones? I need to get it back on the road soon or i will go mad.

If it aint one thing its another!. Now that i got my headlight fixed my bike wont start It stalled out on me when i was driving and now it wont start back up, unless i push start it but soon after it will die again. Any help on what it might be? Would the Idle screws make it not start up? Oh yeah i would pull the plug to check spark and im really not getting any spark i also found out my electric start relay isnt there. So could it be my coils went bad? Both of them at the same time?

My 81 xs 400 special II has both front and rear drum brakes. Now almost every photo i've seen online of my model bike has a single disc in the front. Why is mine different and how hard would it be to convert the front to disc and what parts would I need? also is it worth doing? thanks -Mike

Hi I am rebuilding a 79 dt175 and I am looking at putting decals that are meant for a dt125 on the tank. Is there much difference in tank size between the two? I am thinking I may have to get them resized. Thanks

G'day all, for those intrested in restoring old classics, iam beginning my first 'classic restore' of a 1968 YAS1. i've had the bike since i was 12 yrs old, back then dad thought it was time to upgrade from the KD80 to a 125cc and brought it off a work mate who only had it to teach his daughters to ride, after that just sat in his shed for years. Offered it to us for $350 in 1983,i was a happy young fella the power was unreal at that age.(only went round'n'round in the paddock really) Back then we had no idea what bike it was, just rode it for a few yrs until the throttle cable broke, and that's when it went into a deep long sleep (25yrs)..... .....…

Hey everyone! My names Mike and I just bought an 81 XS400. I'll have some pics up soon! It runs great I just had a few questions: 1. It needs air filters, I have no idea where to get them, anyone know? Also I heard of some people replacing the stock filters and housings with aftermarket cone filters, is this a good idea? and if so where do I get those? and 2. It seems like the throttle sticks a little, when I rev it up the rpms take a second or 2 to calm down once i've closed the throttle. any idea what's causing that? Thanks for you time, any advice will be very appreciated!

I was out riding my girlfriends new XJ 500 (1981) yesterday. It sounded very nice, went smooth and so on. After a hour on the road I speed up to 80-90 mph at 7000-8000 revs, it was flat out but the headwind and since we where two it didnt go faster or rev higher. When I let of the throttle down to 4000 revs it started to sound like it was short of fuel, misfiring and "jumping", I then shifted gear and went up to 6000-7000 and it disappeared, after a minute or two I went down again to below 6000 and now it was no problem at all. We then went to a friend and when we came there it sounded a bit strange, not the smooth idle we experienced before. There was also a knockin…

  12. Started by Dutch Growler,

So I recently bought my first bike — a 1977 XS400. I think I have to do something with the handle bar bushings, as they're a bit loose, and it definitely needs tires, but aside from that everything seems to be quite right with this bike, which is in notable condition. There's just 9,000 miles on her. Seeing as how it's my first bike, I was curious as to what people know about this biike, things to watch for etc ... Also, it's an absolute bitch to get started but once it does everything's pretty cool. Any and all advice/insight is much appreciated.

hahaha, just i have a lights on off switch on my 1978 xs 400 on the right handle bar cluster. And it only turns the bike lights on and off when the engine isn't running. Shouldn't it turn them on and off when it's running as well? Because they just stay on while running. pherhaps someone unplugged some connection in the headlight bucket? just curiousity really, and sorry I was tired when i typed this up before.

  14. Started by 2-Stroke Dan,

Hi everyone, I'm a big fan of Yamaha 2-Strokes from the early 70's, especially the AT2, DT2, & DT360 singles (great memories). I've kept an eye on ebay & gumtree for ages, but nothing suitable/affordable ever showed up. Then, by accident, I discovered a 1972 DT2 sitting in a garage just a few miles from my house! . I almost bought it there and then, but I decided to check on some parts availability first. The bike is almost intact, just missing indicators for road use. It runs, but needs constant throttle and is hard to start. I noticed some fluid on the flywheel, so I reckon that one (or both) main seals are blown. I've searched the net (bikebandit, etc)…

  16. Just wanted to share my XS400R Pic with everyone, as when i got this bike there wasn,t enough pics that could be dug up on the net. Dont hate on me for cutting this thing up, I felt it was all for the better. Granted that the headlight does suck at highway speeds at night. I bought this bike non running, and hadnt been plated since 88. The gas tank had more internal growth then a 25000BC cavern, It has 11K miles and it was laid down pretty hard on the left side and at least dropped a couple times on the right as well. the picture is from a few months ago and a few other things have changed, mainly hand grips, and controls (it now sports some custom "cut up" 3 fi…

  17. Started by 77500Xs,

If my timing chain is loose, is it possible for it to jump timing while cruising at low rpm's? The reason I ask is I have this issue with my bike that it runs great for the most part but every so often it will mis or backfire when I am at 1/4 throttle and then when that happens the engine will start popping and backfiring from the right cylinder only. This only seems to be evident though when I am off the throttle coming to a stop; it seems like a timing behavior. After a few starts later, it will run fine again. If this is possible, how can I check and adjust my timing chain? I have a CDI ignition on my bike btw. Thanks.

I have been searching for a replacement for my 1968 dt1 air filter, Yamaha FILTRON K205, but see that they are no longer produced. What can I use in its place? Thanks

  19. Started by cegan09,

Ok, i took some time off working on this bike for sanity's sake. Its not running right still, mostly the idle. It won't idle, at least not below 2k. Even when warm it won't hold an idle below 1800 or so, i can get it to 1500, but it sits there for a few seconds, then dies. This is out riding, not sitting in my driveway. I'll pull up to a red light, try to adjust the idle screw to get it lower than the 2.5k it likes to sit at, and that is the result. I pulled the carb boots to see if they were cracked and leaking, but i don't think they are. The outside is drying up and has some cracks, but the inside is perfect. So what else could be causing this? I'm really trying …

Can't figure out how to search for it, but somebody recently mentioned a big bore kit they saw for an XS400. Kawasaki pistons, maybe?
