Hi, I have an 86 FZX700 Fazer that is having a engine bogging problem. I have ruled out the fuel fuel system as it is happening at all engine speeds. I found a set of crash bars and installed peg on them when this started happening. Only happens when my right foot is on the peg. Any Ideas?????

Just got a '79 xs750 for next to nothing, bought it blind,it's in really good condition, It runs superbly, engine tone is lovely, but It's not my bag, and there's next to no information on them at all, only that they are a real pile if s**t!!! Is this true? Mine doesn't like corners and 50mph makes my sphincter contract, is this normal? does anybody like these bikes? if so why??? sorry bout all the questions, but i really know JACK about my bike, i know I like the look, that's about it! so in short. What's it's value? should I keep it? are they dependable? Cheers in advance.

I was debating replace my xs400 mounting brackets with the simple kind that can just screw on the fork (like these) I was curious... the stock 'mounting brackets' that are on the XS bikes are these kind. like they are part of the fork vs a screw-in type like aftermarket ones. Can I just remove the old ones when i start working on my forks and screw in the new brackets onto whatever is underneith that? or there is ugly metal underneith them and they are NOT meant to be removed (like maybe what I'd want to do is chop off the actual headlight mount that is welded? onto that stock metal piece and attach/screw the aftermarket mounting brackets onto that metal piece). …

OK, I dont think this is the way to drain your oil and I thought that behind the alternator/rotor cover was suppose to be dry? I basically drained the oil when I took this cover off. Am I wrong? Please help! Thanks

I am stretching my 400 and adding a hardtail. I wrote down all the measurments for my swingarm and stuff but cannot find it now (my swingarm is chopped up now). Before I bend the tubing for the hardtail, I'd like to confirm my length. It just looks like quite a stretch in the jig. An approximate measurement from the center of the axle pivot to the end of the swingarm would give me a good idea.

A little background...I just purchased a 81 XS 400 special II that had been basically unused for the past 5 years. It had starting problems so I replaced the battery as well as the starter solonoid. It worked fine for a few days but now the bike stalls and is completely dead. If you jump start it and remove the cables too quickly it again just dies. No power, no clicking..nothing. The battery is completely dead. If you keep up the revs you can keep it going until it stalls..and you start all over again. Is there something else in the charging system I should check? Thanks! Sherwin Am I too assume that this is a question that I can find in other threads? I did go thro…

I just wanted to check in and say hi. I recently purchased a 1981 XS 400 Special II and am looking forward to all the great information this forum can supply! I have ridden a few bikes in my day but nothin really serious. This is the biggest bike that I have owned. The first bike I rode as a kid was a Yamaha YZ80, and a couple years ago I played with a 1973 Yamaha U70 stepthrough. My new bike has basically sat for the past 5 years and wasnt ridden much at all. Today is the first day I have had to get aquainted with it (it does run) but will need a lot of maintenance and TLC. I will post some pics once I get it cleaned up. I love these forums! Cheers! Sherwin

Hi guys, this is my first post after picking up an old XS250, from what I've read the XS250 and XS400 are exactly the same besides the engine. I'm currently in the middle of the teardown to build a tracker and am trying to source some front and rear bobbed style fenders. Does anyone one know where I could pick some up. Was thinking a couple of SR500/400 fenders might fit. Anyone tried this? Thanks Ben

Well, title kinda sums it up. Im 21, married and own a home. Wanted a damn motorcycle, didnt care much as to what I got, as I was on a budget. I was going through 4 Craigslist cities looking for a bike between $400 and $600 that had a title. Long story short, i emailed about 2 dozen people, and the one person that emailed me back was selling a 1981 Yamaha xs 400 for $200. I was able to make the purchase and am very excited about it The previous owner claims that the bike needs a new battery, and some carb work (i think he said a CV boot?) He did start it, using jumper cables and spraying lubricant or something. I am not very savvy... actually I dont kn…

Just joined the forum looking for some help. Bought this 1974 DT175 about 3 weeks ago. After a week of riding it it began to get more difficult to start, and then it started cutting out like it wasn't getting enough fuel (or so I thought). I replaced the spark plug and it started right up and ran well for about another week. However yesterday it started cutting out while i was driving it. And now it won't start again. I think I am going to need to replace the spark plug again. But one a week is ridiculous. The plug I took out is all black on the tip, my guess is the oil is running too rich. (but this is my first bike I'll ever work on). What do you guys think could make m…

Does anyone know what the width of the rear wheel (axle) between the axle plates is on an XS400 Mine has mag wheels if that matters. Mine is at 7-15/16" inside to inside on the axle plates, but I want to make sure. I am building a hardtail and want it right the first time!

i have an absolute nightmare with this bike....... i got the most of it done last year, but this timing issue has been a dragging plauge. but today i actually got to ride it !. whoop whoop ! (on a private road) what a difference it is when you compere it to an in-line-four. i knew that it would be nothing like my ZX6R as i have had and ridden twins before, but it was a sharp reminder of how vastly different they are. i love em both, but the XS has certainly tested my patience

Hi everyone I'm new to this site... I am about to come into a 1966 YDS3 250 that a friends Grandfather has had since 66. It has been in ether the garage or a storage shed since 66 with what a tarp or cover over it. What would you guys suggest I do as far as getting it back on the road. I was told he road it for about a month back when he got it in 66 and then parked it. Oh and if you know of any places I could look for parts for it that would help 2. thanks Mike

I have a 1980 SR500 that runs great, starts easily, idles great (sometimes). Other times it will die when coming to an idle at a stop light, etc. The bike always starts back up, but sometimes just won't idle. Can't figure it out. I have cleaned and inspected the carb and air filter, put in a new plug. Any ideas?? Thanks

I went out to start the bike this morning and there was no power at all, not even the control panel came on. So, I hooked up the charger and it went from 25% to 75% charged in 30 min. then after 3 hrs it had still not reached the "charged" light. I decided to unhook the charger and take some mutli-meter readings. I am a newbie at this too. I set the meter to DCV and checked the battery, which gave me a reading of just over 12v. I checked the "earth" and got a similar 12v reading. I then checked the 12v Hitachi ( whatever that thing is just to the rear of the battery on the right side of the bike, and received a negative on the screen of random numbers in the 100th…

Has anyone any idea where I could get an original or original looking seat cover (or complete seat if really neccessary) for my 1980(w reg) XT250. It has the 'YAMAHA' name in white on the rear of it and false stitching giving the impression of a front and rear panel stitched into it (as opposed to being one complete section of fabric which I believe it is) If anyone has the answer to this, would you email it to me at: [email protected] if possible. Thanks... Lloyd.
