Hi, I've been unable to find a supplier that lists both my XS360 1U4 model and the float needles I need. Desperate, I decided that I'd chance it with carbscapital.com.. but the AVS failed, as I was required to supply a 'state/province'. We've got no such thing in Denmark. Alas, can anyone in here help my out? I've got my eye on part# 168-14190-20(00) but I've yet to see a parts list, so any input would be welcome. It's the original BS34 (type 1) carbs. On an aside: Is there any chance that I can get away with mounting pod-airfilters or would that require some further mumbo-jumbo (like rejetting or whatever)? They are much easier to come by than the origin…

So i'm still having issues getting the bike to start nicely. I've got brand new carbs (well, cleaned up to perfection), jetting is finally close to right for the pod filters, sync is almost perfect, and it runs really well. Idle is between 1000 and 1500 (my idle stop adjust screw wont' stay put and moves with vibration. need to loctite it.) But it won't start easily. If it's been off for 12 hours or more, even with a topped off battery, choke on or off, i can step on it for 10 minutes or so and nothing. If it's been running in the past few hours then it's easy. A step or two with the run switch in the off position, then a good step with it in Run and it's started. If …

I have an 81 xs 400 i posted earlier about the shifter issue.. turns out the shift shaft has bad teeth. I found a few on ebay for similar year xs400's, just need to know what years (if any) would be compatible with my bike. (because im sure as shit not giving a yamaha dealer $200 for a new rod with teeth) Heres the list of what i found http://motors.desc.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=yamaha+shift+shaft+xs+400&_sacat=&_odkw=yamaha+shift+shaft&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&LH_TitleDesc=1&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313 (im almost willing to bet that drewpy answers this first.)

I bought a yamaha xs 500 engine recently and am in the process of taking it to bits as it was in a bit of a state when I got it. I am slowly working my way through it and am hoping to end up with a cool looking bike at the end of it. I have had a few problems along the way as I have never done anything like this before. I have worked my way through them but have hit a bit of a brick wall at the mo. I am trying to split the crankcase and it seems to be stuck fast. I have removed all the nuts and bolts as far as I can see. I have a haynes manual as but it is for the A series and my engine is a B. Dose anyone know of anything that I should be aware of or have any tips …

I am trying install new front and rear LED turn signals and I am having a lot of trouble finding where to connect them. I have a load equalizer and a full front and rear turn signal kit. The wiring going to the rear (from the bike) is one brown wire and one green wire, from the turn signals it is one red and one black (for both). I am not sure if the two red wires connect with the green and brown wires and both black wires are for ground. On the front I have only been able to find one wire that I think is a signal wire. I have taken apart the turn signal switch and everything works. If anyone knows anything about this, or turn signal wiring at all, your help would be grea…

sweet, Yamaha forums is back... So i thought id give a shot at messing with my idle mixture screws a few days ago. The right cylinder seemed to be weak, Think i just rotated the right carb screw out a few turns as to see what would happen and it idled better than before ... so i was satisfied... but i went riding today and it seems to chug along (felt like bike was going 'up and down', like it was getting gas then less gas)... so i was going to set the screws the right way. aka go all the way down on both screws till hit some resistance then pull it back out 3.5 turns as peeps recommend here... I did that and i think it ran worse heh. like engine was not getti…

my friend's 1981 LC350 has been in storage for approx 3 years. It was running fine up to that point. The fuel was drained before storing. We have put fresh fuel & two stroke in, stripped carbs & cleaned all jets/passageways. Fitted new spark plugs. There is good compression & a good spark. However it will just not fire & the plugs are bone dry. Therefore for some reason fuel is just not getting through. The reed valves look ok. I am out of ideas, and just wondered if anybody could think of anything else to try. Thanks

okay i am a newbie but i could not find this problem anywhere on the forums so I'm sorry if this has been posted somewhere already. I ran my bike the other day and rode around the block a few times when i shut it off and tried to kick it over again I had no compression. If let the bike cool off and had compression back. I am really confused. I have modified it to kick only, so I tried to push start it but that didn't work. The bike didn't even jerk a bit when i popped the clutch out. while riding the bike seemed to be running a bit rich and also backfired in one cylinder when downshifting. any thoughts on where to start?

Here's where we're at: the left side of the ol' Green Machine has quit working. Swap coils, no joy. All mechanical adjustmens are in spec: carbs, point gap, valve clearance. Interesting discovery: On the left side, I have @12vdc on the positive side, and nothing on the ground side. On the right side, I have @12vdc on the hot side, and 12vdc on the ground side. When I unplug the left coil from the circuit on the negative side, I then have 12vdc out. Good continuity all the way from the out on the coil to the points, just no sauce when it's in circuit. Electercity: PFM.... Thoughts?

Hi folks, thought i'd be sociable... I've had my RD since i was 19 and it's past 57,000 miles now. It was totally original when i bought it for £250 just 24 years ago but not anymore... Well its a long story of crashes, holed pistons, seized cranks, bashed tanks, blind stupidity, split seats & rusty mudguards. But... it's also a story of Harry Barlow tuning & handmade stainless 'spannies, Akront rims, Spondon brake, Giuliari seat, '80s Ultimate Streetbike comps, 30 thousand-odd miles of thrashing round North Wales and a recent 1500 mile round trip to France (ow!). It's in bits at the mo due to a worn oil pump-induced near seizure. Now up to 2mm o/s but…

My 81 xs400s won't start. I've been working on it with my dad and he seems to think that the likely problem is in the ignition system. The spark seems to be too weak and wants to check out the TCI unit. The problem is that the Haynes shop manual that we are using for this bike is sucks and we can't figure out where exactly the TCI unit is so we can check it. I've tried googling this info in a million differents words and I can't come up with anything I was wondering if anybody could provide any pictures or diagrams to help us find it and where we would get a new one if this is indeed the problem.

looking to replace the rear tire on my 1975 xs500. right now it has a goodyear eagle hst mv85v18 on it that is weather checked. this tire looks as if it had been rubbering as well with the previous owner. wondering what range of tire sizes i can go with and also what type of tire. the one thats on there now looks like a dirt bike-ish tire. can i go with a more street bike style tire? the bike will be mostly street / hwy driven. thanks for any input.

I shouldn't have to ask this question, but....when checking the oil level on a TX500, and I suppose on a XS500, should the "dip stick" be screwed in all the way or not screwed in at all??? The owners manual for my 74 TX500 doesn't say which way...the Clymer Manual says don't screw it in...the factory service manual doesn't say either. It would seem to be important, as screwed in the dip stick would be about 1/2" farther into the oil. So, which way is correct? The crankcase indicates 3000cc of oil, but I believe that is without filter, but again the owners manual doesn't say that. ??? Thanks

so i was messing with installing some new Gran Tourisimo style grips i bought a while back from mikesxs. I got the left/brake side grip off with a screwdriver going around the handlebar while putting a lil wd40/oil in with a straw. the right side throttle tube i see isnt 'smooth', there are little 'ribs' in there and seems like i can't just put in a screwdriver it seems like the left side to get it off... 1. How can i take off the right-side/throttle grip? Also when installing them, i don't want to use anything fancy/$$$ like grip glue... I was gonna just heat up the left side for now in hot water and slide it on, but i heard peeps use alcohol or hairspr…

Hi New to forum, but will probably be looking for lots of advise as I get this bike running and customized. I am planning on a bobber project, but before that I want to get everything running well and working properly so I can put it through a government inspection. Then out comes the grinder. The bike has not been registered for 18yrs, and has been sitting inside all that time. It only has 3600kms on it, and has been owned by one person. Howerver, it was not stored properly and of course the carbs are fouled up pretty good. I downloaded a manual for the xs360/400 series of bikes, but I need a little help identifying the exact model I have. The owner had no or…
