    I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the direction of where I might find a rear mono shock for my 1980 DT175 mx. Yamaha will supply a new one at over £300 which, although keeping original is important, is just too much. I have searched quite well through Google but so far no joy. Also, can anyone confirm if the DT125 shared the same shock at the time?

  2. I have a 1973 enduro LT2 with a wiring and/or headlight issue. I have been able to start it but the headlight still does not turn on. I can see inside the headllight and the bulb appears to be ok. I have removed the bulb and checked the wires to see if anything came loose and I did not find anything. The taillight and turn signals work fine and there are no other problems that I am aware of. I am new to motorcycles and this is my first so please explain solutions well.     I recently came across a 1982 SR250J Exciter, in great asthetic condition, but not runnning. It had sat for nearly 5 years with the same quarter tank of gas, and was rarely run (only 2600 miles). I've cleaned the tank and replaced the fuel filter; replaced a few gaskets. Everyone with this bike seems to be looking for tech info, and I honestly cant find anyone still publishing the service manual. I really need the torque specs for the head, I would be running in no time if I could find just these things. I have all the gaskets from the bottom of the head up, i just dont want to re-assemble it half-assed. If anyone knows where I could pick up a manual or would know th…

    i just rebuilt the engine and now need to get the carb tuned in. it is a 78 yz80 with a 73 gt80 engine. it ran good before, but that was with really low compression. now with it rebuilt, it doesn't want to idle without me "choking" it with a finger over the intake. to me it sounds like an air leak. i have new intake gaskets and did find a leak on the gasket inside the carb where it "pinches" around the intake. after sealing it off, it seems a little better. i have tried moving the needle adjustment, but it is still very sluggish when opening the throttle and will not idle down. any suggestions? the carb has been completely gone through, so i know it isn't an int…

    Hey guys, I'm new here. I have a 75' XS 500 that I've been restoring for awhile now. When I got the bike the engine was frozen up, so i rebuilt the engine and cleaned everything up, new gaskets and the whole deal. However, when I'm kicking it over I can only get it to backfire. There is spark in both plugs and the carbs have been cleaned by my local shop. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks for your help - Jeff

    Wanting the best bright light I bought a halogen: OSRAM BILUX H4 NIGHTBRAKER 60W /55W. To be used in cars. "90% more light" it says. It fits, but..... The low beam comes out quit good, but the high beam goes everywhere except where I need it. If put a bulb in a cars' reflector I was used to put a bulb in with the cup for low beam on underside \_/ (Thats what I think to remember, did not use car for over ten years) The reflector on my bike needs it the other way (upside down) to get the beam down. What is the best to use???? I have a plain reflector with a lense with complicated pattern and nothing else in between.

    Right techo's question for you.... The master cylinder on my XS is leaking and I want to replace it with a more modern one. Later master cyllinders have the brake light switch built in. Thing is my XS has the old style pressure switch for the brake light. My question is can I by-pass the pressure switch and run wires straight from the new master cylinder to the existing wires for the brake light?

    Hi all rebuilding the Dt250F now just one question,I had to rebore 2mm over(last)due to grove in bore, question is as it's a large rebore would I need to increase the fuel to be richer and if so how?I'm useless on carbs Cheers all

    its for the ugly '81 Yamaha XS400-SH, and my current tires are all dry rotted and cracked. I'm really picky on my car tires, but I'm new to motorcycle tires. I just want something safe... The rear is a 120-90-16, and front is 3.00S-18. It's got 'mag' wheels or whatever (not wire), and it currently has tubeless tires. It looks like all I can find are chinese/taiwanese brands unfortunately... and I'm pickin from Cheng-Shin, Duro, and IRC.   11. My original carb is giving problems. It has been running very nice, but then: a ) Its overflowing I cleaned out the inlet last week. Runned sometimes reasonable. But get after fire in exhaust. The fuel level seemed to be low down enough when looking from above into the main jet then. But when I took off the carb last day it was wet with petrol left overs in the bore. b ) The diafragm is dammaged. At one or two cracks the rubber is gone a little and exposing the fabric on under side. But as far as I can see not (yet) all through. Does worry me. Might already or soon be leaking. Is there a way to check and repair the diafragm? So far I cannot find parts new or sec…

    I rebuilt my 1981 xs400 last summer to it's original factory look. This summer i'm looking to turn it into a very legitimate cafe racer. I just want to buy a universal seat off Ebay and not go through the trouble of making one (when in fact, i'd love to). So the problem i'm running in to is the dimensions of xs400 seat are wider than most seats on ebay for the seat to properly rest over it. So i'm wondering if anyone has a site that i could find more specialized seats WITH seat pads and/or a recommendation of ways to make a narrower seat work? Hope you can get the drift from that confusing paragraph. Cheers!

    This bike is driving me nuts.. I would appreciate any help.. I was told the CDI box could either cut out all together or go out intermittently giving the symptoms of many other problems.. SO, since I had an extra I put it on along with the new carb I got for it which I first cleaned.. It fired up first push of the button.. Previous to this it would idle fine but not run under load (ran great parked but try to ride it and no go, sputter pop) So off to the end of the yard and back and she pulled through the rev range (for the first time in a year).. I get her out the gate to take down the road and thats all she's got, like it's scared of the street or something it goes …

    Looking for a tune up kit--points, condenser, etc for 74 dt 125 and am having a hard time finding on-line. This bike in general has been this way for everything. Is there a better way to search on Ebay for this bike than I am doing? Or are there any good on-line parts stores out there for vintage stuff? I have tried NW Vintage Cycle but its not that great. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I am planning on just premixing my 72 R5 because I can't find a part for the oil injection system that I need. I was just wondering if anyone knew the mix ratio for it? How much oil per gallon of gas?
