In looking at the drum this evening, I'm curious if the rectangular shaped piece should rest flush instead of leaving the gap shown (red lines show the gap)? Also, never worked with a drum before, any tips for removing the shoes?

My friend and I had FS!E's as youngsters!! I told him I saw an article abt a rally in Brighton for FS!E's. Is there one this year? would love to track down my old maroon 'R' reg will have to see if I can find an old pic with reg no. I was lucky my Nan lent me the money for it..brand new!!! Ahhh... thought I was the bees knees...never saw another female rider for years and years. I took my test on the fizzy and passed on my 16th birthday, wanted to give my brother a lift to school. I've almost got my scooter up and running...having a few charging issues but think that's taken care of (Thanks DREWPY!). But, when we chopped it my fab guy chopped it a little too low (he's new at fabbing)...so it drags a bit in a turn. All I need is another 1 1/2 inch in the front end but my tubes are all but flush with the top of my trees. Is there any fork tube extensions, or better yet, does anybody know the length of the tubes and where I could get a longer set? I need to keep the sliders for brake and fender mounting purposes (I tried a longer set of forks from another bike and that was a no-go). And, I've looked thru all the threads and have seen that others…

I've been reading the site as a guest for about a year now,so if anyone has any ideas or recommendations,I'd really appreciate any replies. Can anyone recommend to me a good spray shop with a reasonably quick turnaround time? I have a set of tins and panels from my LC which I'd like re-spraying and new decals put on,however I don't want to post the items as I don't trust the couriers not to damage them in transit! Ideally, the spray shop would be within an hour or two of the Nottingham area, although if it's a good one I'd travel further to deliver and collect the goods.I don't want to wait months for the items to arrive back form the spray shop though,as I'm hoping t…

I am comsidering purchasing a 1973 MX250 that will need some restoration. This will also be my first attempt at any kind of a restoration and I've got a few general questions. Which parts will be most difficult and/or expensive to locate for the 73 MX 250? What areas of the bike should I pay particular attention to when going to look at it. Could anyone share any photos or experiences on a similar restoration. I guess I'm trying to figure out how much I can bite off for a first time restoration and if this model bike would be a good candiate.

Getting my 74 dt 125 together and starts very easily and idles like a champ but now that the snow has melted off around here I took it up the driveway out of my shop and she starts off ok--in first gear but as I get going and giving it more gas it bogs big time--actually totally cuts out until I let up the throttle. Is this just carbeuration or is there something else text-book here I should know about bogging out under a load? Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Gidday, I'm new to the forum (and Yamahas too) and am looking at getting a 1979 xs250 with the intention of customising it a bit. I would like to put a larger engine in it and want to know what size xs engines and from what years (if any) will fit in? I was thinking about 500cc would be good but I think they go up to 750 in the later models? If I can do this will I need to put in different headers or other bits and pieces or is it a straight swap? Also, I have heard a few nasty things about the xs250 (hard to start, dodgy wiring, poorly made, etc...) and was wondering if any of this is even remotely true? Thanks! Brad

How do I know what to get for spark plug cap and wires for my 1982 XS400SJ? IE - do I need a 1k, 5k or non resistor cap? Inductive wires? Regular 8mm spark plug wires? Do I need a resistor plug or just a regular style BR8ES or something?

I'm planning on changing out the stock exhaust on my 72 R5 with a set of straight pipes that turn out right behind the foot pegs.... anyone pulled off straight pipes on one of these? All I've heard so far is grief over doing this....? I know it will reduce power somewhat, but I'm not wanting to race the bike, just have a good bike to ride around town.

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but does anyone in Central Florida know of a decent shop to cut a key for an old bike? My RS100 has a tank from a CS-1, and I found a correct replacement tank on eBay but I inadvertently locked the cap and now cannot remove it. I emailed the seller and he does not have the key. The tank is in good shape and I don't want to distort the neck by wedging a screwdriver into the catch, and the code is still stamped into the keyhole. Hell if I could even just order the correct key would be fine. Any help?

Replacing piston rings on 1974 DT 125 and all the sets I've found on Ebay are 2 or 3 sizes over. I don't think I need bigger rings--but how do I really know? I have the manual and it explains measuring the cylinder--but I am still confused. I just wonder what's the simplest way to find out what size I do need? And why aren't the standard sets out there? They are all oversized. Thanks

I've got a '74 TX500 and since I've never had very good luck with the KEIHIN carbs I went ahead and bought a set of Mikuni 38's from a later XS500 (38mm). The carbs came with 30-Pilot/122.5-Main, I'm trying to make sure that these are within the range that are suppose to come on the XS500 w/ mikuni carbs. Thanks!

ok, threw a drive chain today and i think i killed third gear and maybe second. sounds like clacking when i put it into third. but was able to ride home fifty miles just by passing 2 and 3 gear. ok my question for you all is: can you split the cases without having to take apart the cylinders and head? yank the motor flip it and split cases apart just to get at the trans gears....

Ok here is my 79 XS400 I have had since 88. My first street bike at 16. It had been sitting at my dads for the last 10 years. Need to find a before pic with the windjammer, crash bars and huge back rest. Anyways I am going for the cafe look on it now. I need to find a cafe tail section. Anybody put one on theirs? Second what is the lagest size tires I can run on the stock rims? 3.0 front and the 4.10 rear. Looking to remove the front fender as well for the larger tire. What brand do you recomend as well? Also anybody make their own rear sets? I am sure I will have more questions as the build slowly progresses. Thanks in advance and here is a pic. Battery box will be remov…
