Hey there, quick question about cycle batteries. I need me a new battery, was looking into one of them sealed AGM ones. Any issues with me sticking that into the ol' girl instead the standard battery in there now?

  3. Vintage content: I did it on The Green Machine, my old 78 XS 400. Thoughts: Them cones are a LOT harder to ride around than they would initially look like. Best thing I got out of it: the cornering drills. They should help out with switchbacks, which we have a good number of here in the hills of East Tennessee; the Tail of the Dragon, the Devil's Triangle and 1000s of others. If you have a choice between a kick only and a kick AND electric start, take the one w/the electric leg. Your right leg (and your fellow students) will thank you. Cool content: In the "figure 8" drill (those that have taken the course will know what I am talking about), the coaches sai…

I couldn't post this in the "wanted" section... but an associate of mine claims interest in vintage racing. I feel somewhat obligated to help promote roadracing of any kind. I need alot more parts for the 400 I am building now , and won't have enough to build another bike for this guy, so I figure I should just try to find another complete bike, maybe even running?? A track bike ? East coast US, would make it even more feasible...Thanx!

My buddy is parting out one of his old bikes and offered me his rear air shocks for cheap. Are there any advantages/disadvantages of air shocks on an xs400 compared to regular springs+struts? Any reason why I shouldn't get them?

  8. I've minted up a running SR125 (like seriously gone to town on it! - hacked the exhaust and fitted a custom slash pipe, cut and plastex'd the rear fender to make it less fugly, with replacement bullet rear brake light etc - full bright yellow! respray with Yamaha 50th Anniversary speed square decals) I'm ready to hit the road, but the engine is the made from the best of the worst bits from 3 knackered bikes.... Typical top end rattle. As I've got to sort this out at some stage, does anyone know of a straight engine swap with a higher CC. ...Or a big bore kit? I'm aware that the exhaust comes out the left (instead of the right) side of the bike on the SR250, so t…

Hey guys. I just threw new carbs in my 81 xs400SH and the bike runs amazing now. I also fitted a 2 into 1 exhaust which came off a 1977 xs400. However, when I rev the bike up to 5000rpm, there's some little pops out of the exhaust when i let the throttle down. The bike didn't do this before the new carbs and new exhaust. Does this relate to running to lean in the carbs or what? Do I even need to worry about it all? Thoughts? Cheers!

Hi im trying to do the CO2 limmiter dash mod to smooth out the bottom end on both my MT 03 and my dads XT660X but i seems that the 2007 model of the XT660X dosent work like the 2006 and lower model years becasue im holding down the select and resent buttons then turning the bike on and off and it just goes on to the normal dash instead of doing in to the diagnostics menu i have found no proof that this can be done on the MT03 but thorght i would try it is there any other way i can reduce the CO2 restriction because they are so lumpy in the low range ps the MT03 is a 2006 moddel and it suposed to work on the 2006 XT660X thats y i tried it Dan

Hello all I have a question does anybody know how to go about changing 6 volt indicator bulbs on my 1977 DT175 twin shock to LED’s, There is a classic car company in the US that markets some bulbs that would do for the front indicators but not for the back as with my rear indicators are side on and at $28 each with UK postage that would be too expensive. Their web page tells that you can use their bulbs with no need modify the harness or use resistors if there is a normal bulb wired to the circuit also, as the DT has a normal bulb as the repeater in the tacho I could hopefully use that as the required resistor. I am after a brighter light with a faster flash rate an…

Good day to all, Last weekend I picked up a 1973 MX 250; it will need alot of elbow grease and a few parts but in the long run it will be worth the effort. below is a list of what I need so far: 1) Coil assembly 2) Air filter and cage 3) Silencer / stinger 4) Right and left side panels 5) Front number plate 6) Front and rear fender are on the bike but will be replaced 7) Decals for the tank and fender (Yellow stripe) 8) Brake lever (rear) My question to those with much more experience than I - In searching for the coil where can I find info that would indentify other bikes that had the same coil? I can't imagine the MX250 coil was specific for one year/one…

This past weekend I took out the carbs from my 1976 XS500 to give them a good cleaning and light rebuild and discovered that I am missing the springs from the carb chambers. So, I am hoping one of you guys may be able to guide me in getting them. Maybe one of you has an extra pair laying around? Any help would be greatly appreciated. $? Here's what they should look like (from Clymer's manual)

a good friend's elderly father gave me his old '71 yamaha ct1 175 enduro a few months ago, as it had been collecting dust since 1976! i cleaned the carb and put a put in a keyster kit, sealed the tank, replaced all the corroded gaskets, added new bel-ray oil in the injector, and she fired up today! when the smoke cleared, she seemed to be running darned good...though only with the idle/air screw screwed all the way in. i warmed her up, drove around the block a few times, and was having a quite a blast...then suddenly...SMOKE...tons of it...billowing gray out of the tail of the pipe and the pipe/engine connection. she died, and though i was able to restart her, sh…

  20. Hi I need to get some new carb holders for my 1981 XS 400 Special II and I read on this forum somewhere that you can get carb parts for this model from mikes XS, and I just wanted to confirm that if I order them from mikes XS that the carb model BS34CV for the XS 650 is the same carb that was used on the XS 400. So then will all parts listed for that carb work on my xs 400 like carb rebuild kits, pod filters, carb holders, clamps, screws, etc. Thanks for the clarification.
