Can someone enlighten me what is the difference between K70 K81 and K81? (apart form the price that is) I am looking for some rubber for my tracker project ( birthday comming up!) and looking at 3.50 x 18 and 4.00 x 18's cheers drewps

To continue the XS400 obsession on this site... For purely cosmetic reasons (shameful I know) I'm thinking of changing the the wheels on my XS400 from the cast alloy ones with discs to spokes with drums. Has anybody done this? I have a complete front end and swing arm and rear wheel from a XS250. I was wondering if they are a straight swap, especially thinking about the mounting of the rear brake pedal linkages and switch. I am having an intermittent noise sometimes when I switch the ignition of my bike on. It is an 81 XS400. The noise sounds like a large puff or release of air. It only happens sometimes and occurs about a second or too after I turn the key to run. It happens before I start the bike. It also seems to happen when the bike has been sitting and moved around without turning it or starting it for hours. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I thought it may be the battery breather venting or perhaps the engine breather releasing some pressure, but am not sure why it would happen all of a sudden once it gets the 12V of power. hey guys my 1980 xs400 is making a high-pitched chattering noise around 3k rpm. It's very loud when riding, and happens throughout the whole rpm range. It's been doing this since i first got the bike. Since the clutch was on its way out, I changed the clutch, and also synched and cleaned out the carbs. In a possibly related issue, the engine doesn't pull past 6k rpms at WOT. However, it goes all the way to 9k if i leave it at 3/4 throttle. I uploaded a youtube video so you could hear the sound. Hello anyone, please help. My XS360 is bogging down over 60MPH, basically loses all power. I had my bike dyno'd and it is running real rich all the way and then at the very end way way lean, it just drops off. A local shop told me that it probably shouldn't go over 60mph anyway, which I think is BS. Anyone know a good mechanic in Atlanta, GA area who can get the carb straight? Thanks!

Well, i've had the new toy for just under a week now and have had time to look it over a bit. Thought i'd share my evaluation. This will be my 1st "project" bike as all my previous bikes have been runners at purchase. I'm enjoying pulling it apart and seeing what I ended up with. The Good: 1) No rust on the bike. It may have been neglected, but it's sat somewhere dry. No fittings have been particularly hard to remove thus far. 2) I clipped my trickle charger to the bike's leads (no battery) to see what lit up and happily headlight, tail light, signals, neutral light, high and low beams, and break light switches all seem good. 3) I can move thru all 5 gears an…

Hey all. I'd like to replace my tach and speedo in a while and I'm wondering a couple things: Do tachs and speedos from xs650s fit the 400 model? Are there universal gauges that I could use instead? Also, how do i install these things?

Hey there, is there a bulb from say a regular automotive parts store that will work in the 82' seca headlight? Or am I stuck going to the yamaha dealership to get one.

I seem to have lost the key for my locking gas cap. Any thoughts on how to get it open? I'm guessing I'll have to drill it out and then replace it. 1979 XS400SG

Hi guys, im new to the forum and have a couple of questions. 1st I was riding home from work the other day and my speedo started making a bad whine noise. Then the next day it started bouncing really bad to were I cant tell what my speed is What could it be? 2nd Can it be fixed or would a speedo from a 1980 xs400 work? Thanks guys and awesome forum!

Hi i need some parts for my 175 enduro,i bought it blind thinking it was a dt175 mx, but when i picked it up, i realised it was a much earlier twin shock model with 2 spark plug head, frame no. is AT2 *100**1* (not putting my full frame no. but you get the gist) as far as i know, i need the oil pump cover, left hand side engine cover, right hand side casing, and a carb. If any other members can shed any light on the model or age of model i've got, or if they you have any spares please get in touch, its to good to break Dave

Hi folks, finally pulled the SR out of the shed after about 5 years of hibernating behind various other motorised bicycles. Changed the oil, new plug, new fuel, checked the valve gaps, cleaned the carb, repaired/replaced various electrical connections and, b$$$$r me, it refuses to start! Nice big juicy spark but no go. I get the odd backfire after 5 or 6 kicks and it seems to want to pick up but just stubbornly puts its foot down. Oh btw, its got a Boyer Bransden ignition unit fitted. Anyone got any clues or advice??? My right leg is REALLLLLY sore!! thanks.
