Where can I find a little tail light to put on the back of my bubble seat of my cafe racer or is this something i'm going to have to have to get crafty with?

Whay!! rebuilt engine fired straightaway. the reason I did it was because the engine case was porous and leaked oil. the new case was from XS360's (R.I.P.) estate and was only £2. spent another £200 on bearings and gaskets etc though!!! checked the timimg and unbeliveably it was only very slightly retarded (like me) so left it for now. just been for a cautious blast and it hunts slightly in low revs. i have reset the float height as it was set too high at 26mm and should be 32mm. I think i need to balance the carbs and richen the pilot screws. engine nice and quiet as I put in new rings i bought years ago with new cyl head (£60), camchain(£38) and …

Hi all New to the forum... I have just purchased a '77 V75a (my mum rode one years ago - funny!) and would like some assistance regarding the automatic box on this thing 1 how does it work 2 it has a rattle from the clutch on idle that disappears as soon as you are underway, what would this be from? also the previous owner (not met as acquired through a 3rd party) removed the oil pump drive from the autolube, I found whilst trawling that ther was a modification for the oil feed as gravity could cause over oiling, any ideas? thanks in advance ally

I know these aren't on a Yamaha, but I'm looking for a set of the boot things that are covering the forks like on this Honda. Anyone know where to find some?

hey guys, Im new here, my name is joe and im 13 but im not new to mechanics or fabricating, so if your explaining something to me dont think i wont get it. any ways i have a 1977 Yamaha RS 100. its in ok condition. i have not got a chance to start it yet because the splined shaft for the kick start has been pushed in side the cover. But what my main problem is the wiring on this thing! I hooked up a new battery and saw wjat worked and didnt. what works is the tail/brake light, front/back signals and horn. thats it. The lights in the speedo where burnt out so i out new ones in and the only light working in that is the yellow Power/signal lights light. nothing else w…

I intend to take my XS400 from home in East TN to Jacksonville, FL for Annual Training with the reserves this summer. Are there any components I should be pro-active and replace? The reference to the Triple Five is a local group http://www.thefivefivefive.com. They take smallbore bikes across the country (less than 500cc, pre-1975, less than $500 total investment), While I don't have a prob with spending more, IMHO old iron has more character.

  13. How do I get the needle jet out of this '81 xs400 carb? I took out the main jet and the washer underneath, and I see the hollow needle jet and there's a little open tab on the side, and its too narrow to get a screwdriver in it. The Haynes manual just says to push the needle jet out, and doesn't give any specifics. It seems like its pretty tight in there. I just want to clean out any crud in it, while I have things apart. I was runnin around on it today, and it started runnin like crap, acted like it was down a cylinder, then would die and eventually didn't restart at all. I pushed it on home. It'd fire and run for a bit with starter fluid, and the fuel strai…

Hiya Fellers, Do you need a front breaklight switch for an MOT? (if the rear works), I`ve recently obtained a xs400, With MOT, but on giving it the once over there's no front switch, And by the looks of it there's not been one for years, It came with all it`s old mot`s so it must be passing?, Sorry if this seem`s an obvious question but i`ve never MOTed a bike (30 odd years), But i`d like to add this one to the collection, Cheers, Mark.

  16. I came across several problems, so I offer my solution. If it doesn't work for you - don't rape it!!! Find another way! 1. After servicing the carburettors I can't roll the throttle to the end Solution: In my case I have tightened the "screwy thingy" that holds the air filters (sport filters on my bike, not a filter box) at angle. The screwy thingy must NOT interfere with the throttle gadget!!! 2. Sport air filters falling Solution: In my case I have overtightened them! You must screw just enough so that they don't fall. Overscrewing results in immediately or later, caused by vibrations, falling of the filters. 3. Screwing the gas-tank Solution: It mustn't be screwe…

  17. Started by plain old dave,

Been riding the dickens out of my ol' 400, and fixing things as needed. We had some nasty weather here a few weeks ago and my bike was blown over while I was at work (50+ mph wind+ oversize cover= bad) and I am slowly but surely repairing the cosmetic damage. Next up on the list is the headlight bucket. I got a sweetheart of a deal on a Honda CB750 bucket and light and as I like the look of prewar oversized headlights (think Brough Superior SS100) I am goin' with it. Any suggestions as to what to use for brackets?

Hello All: I am currently rebuilding 2 rd200's (1974 rd200a and 1975 rd200b), and am trying to find replacement shock absorbers. The shocks are 330 mm or approximately 13 inches in length (eye to eye). Hagon used to make replacement shocks for this bike but they have been discontinued. Does anyone know where I might be able to pick up a couple sets? Regards. John
