Hello again, the Dt developed a head leak so I have removed the barrel and ordered a new gasket set, I thought it best while I was at it to check the faces were flat but I now have to re fit and I dont have a piston ring compressor, as there are only two rings I was hoping it should be easy enough. I was planning on cutting a slot in a piece of ply and sliding it under the piston and around the con rod to lock it in place. any suggestions or hints gratefully received. Soon I shall have adjusted and replaced everything on the bloody thing and by then I hope to be able to ride it

Hi, I have just bought a 2007 DT 125 RE and wondered if anyone can give me some advice regarding the exhaust. I think it has a standard expansion pipe with a another small silver pipe attached to it. The problem is with the small pipe which was held onto the exhaust with a small jubilee clip ( I think it is damaged where it goes on to the exhaust ). I noticed it was blowing but wondered what would be the best way to attach it or do away with it and seal the point on the expansion pipe it was attached to, or if I bought a dep system what would happen to the pipe left hanging down or does that attach to the dep system. I apologise if it's been asked before but any advice wo…

Anyone know of an aftermarket shock for a 1999 DT230 Lanza? I've just bought one and the rear end bottoms out pretty easily and I think the shock has seen better days.

As the title suggests! I saw it for £3 a litre down at tesco! I thought I better share the deal and not be selfish.

hi there i havent had this bike all that long on about the 3rd week i noticed my back brake was dead, the only resistance in the brake was the spring that brings the lever back up. so i brought it to a stop hopped off and had a look, i noticed that the rear brake fluid reservoir was broken (i would imagine id caught it with my boot getting on or off the bike). so i took it home and removed the reservoir and glued it back together (nice and air tight) left it over night to dry and put it back on the bike the next day. Then I went on the fill the reservoir up with brake fluid and bleed the brake. this is where the real problem comes up, it ill not bleed properly there…

Hey all, I recently purchased an older late 70's early 80's yamaha 125 id tag has been worn down over the years and too faded to read so dont know exact year or model, when purchased was told it was and 1980 tt 175 but thats way off lol turns out it a 125, i bought it non running after some tinkering found that the top piston ring was stuck in the piston and not sealing very well, I freed it up and got good compression and got it running but when you open throttle revs up a bit but seem like hitting a rev limiter and can barley move me in first if i try to ride it, carb looks great but cleaned it anyway but now of the adjusting screws do anything i can even pull both ri…

Hello Motovirus buddys: do you think is enough a 250 c.c. (carb) motorbike travelling two people to go camping around 5.000 miles with all the gear? We will do soft off-road paths, no highways, some paved road hills and a lot of wind (New Zealand). I can't take my XT600, is cheaper to buy an used motorbike in that country. I did that plenty of times in my life but always with at least 600 c.c. mono (XT600, NX650 Dominator). We will have a lot of time, I don't care speeding only at 60/65 mph. I saw people travelling around South America with 125 c.c. engines, but whithout passengers. Thanks a lot.

Hey all just picked up a 82 XT550. Im trying to diagnose a no-spark issue, perhaps some of you can help. At best, when I kick it over I am only getting -3v to the coil, on both wires. Im sure I dont have my multimeter wires switched, it registers -3. Ive never seen this before in a bike, but then Ive only worked on a couple of them before so Im not quite sure how to go about diagnosing this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Right so after owning a dt for a mere few days and having ti heat seize on me i have now had it rebored to first oversize and new piston rings little end to match. Fitted it all and it ran seeme fine a bit smokey but i put that down to me putting a liltle extra oil in. Let it warm up then cooled it doen then let it warm again and cool down again, then left it running so i could get my helmet just as i was walking back to the bike it stopped. I couldnt get it to re start no matter how much i kicked it over, choke in or out, I took plug out and checked for spark good spark there. checekd pv and everything else all seemed ok . removed carb cleaned and …

  19. well, thought I had it all sorted, set of early for mot this mornin but on the way my f left indicator stopped working, turned out to be a bad earth, but buy the time I had sorted it and got to the garage there wasn't time to mot it as they finish at 1 on sat. to make matters worse on the way home my clutch went light and then stopped working, there seems to be very little resistance there, I wound all the adjusters as far out as they would go just in case but it made no difference. any pointers of where to start greatly appreciated on the plus side I did get to ride the bike for the first time in about 4 years and its loads lighter to push on the walk of shame than…

Can anyone tell me what the valve clearances are meant to be? It sounds slightly tappy in the head wondering whether this is normal as i've not had any experience with old yamaha four strokes. Cheers, Chris.
