So after noticing some dark patches underneath my bike, it appears that my rear shock is leaking oil. Consulted my manual and guess what, its a non-serviceable part due to the gasses inside. Any leaks and you have to replace the unit. Checked the price for a new one, its an eye watering £285 from ajsutton. Had a browse on ebay for some, and can only find ones for the RE or R models, problem being they have, according to google, 30mm higher set height, and a lot more suspension travel So the question is could I fit one of these to my bike? i'm guessing its a no, but asking anyway in case someone on here has had similar issues? thanks in advance, Paul

hi people just found the site so ive joined and its good to meet you all ,my question is what is the correct ohm setting for the tps on the thunderace as ive noticed its slotted so there must be adjustment and if its like my ccm was with the Suzuki engine it was just put on at the factory so the bike would run but needed fine tuning, if I remember rite I had to have the throttle fully open and measure across the outer two pins on the block connector and then the inner ones and take a reading and what the difference was is what the tps was set at but this is vague as I cant remember lol so thanks for your help in anticipation

  4. I'm very new to working on bikes and have a question on how to store my "work in progress" while I'm working on it. I'm not able to bring the bike in doors / into a shop. I usually park under a "carport". I need to remove my exhaust system, head, and cylinder on my DT175E. I expect to have enough work to do before reasembly that I have these pieces off for some period of time. It is possible that I may get stuck on something small and end up having the head off quite some time. What precautions should I take to aviod things like dust and moisture from entering the engine? In the carport I normally park under, it stays dry from rain but it is a bit of a dusty a…

Hi everybody. I haven't been here in about a year as I haven't made any progress on my project in about a year... until now. To review - becuase people probably won't remember me, I am not very experienced in working on engines, so I'm trying to learn. I am dealing with a generally poor running '78 DT175, and I FINALLY found a problem that could explain why I can't set the idle and the poor running I experience. Head Gasket. I'm pretty sure it's leaking... I spotted a clean spot along the edge of the head gasket that just looked "different", and with the bike running, I shot some WD40 at it. The engine running made the oil bubble up just like finding a tire leak w…

Can anyone help, I have a virago 125 year 2000 that hassat in a garae for 12 years with only 869 on the clock.. The owner had a prob, ith only running on 1 cylinder so took it to the garage, they changed the carb, the pump and all the hoses, but it was still the same. It will start but only on full choke and then if you rev it it will cut out straight away, will not start with no choke. Have replaced the petrol and battery, and there is no knocking etc, from the engine or smoke, has a good spark on both plugs and comp, is ok on both cylinders. Any ideas anyone Thanks

Hi, please help, my DT broke down on me the other day, long story short, I found that there's no spark, however, I can crank it all day long with no spark but the moment I stop cranking it sparks once or twice and sometimes even fires up and runs??? so far only changed the coil but hasn't solved it. I've asked several bike mechanics but no one has an answer. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi all, I'm new to this posting business so please be gentle with me. Right I have an 1990 XT350 import and its a none starter, no idea why but basically it was stolen from me and then returned to me from the police. Obviously the theif was not worried about what happened to it, and then continued to rag it to death, well done , good job. Apart from many things I have to do to get it back to a running road worthy bike, one of my concerns are the indicators. Obviously they were missing and replacing them is not a problem, but the wiring is a mess and I think I would be better off starting again, so what I am asking for in this post is, does anyone know where e…

Hi All Has anyone ever had carb, prob, that what ever they did to it it would still not run prop, and as a last resort put a new carb, on and it worked fine? If you look at my other post of, HELP, you will see every thing I have tried. Alright folks My boy informed me today that his virago is not running properly. He says it will not pull away properly and struggles to get over 60, or indeed up a hill. Before I start panicking about the CDI Unit, I'm going to check the carb bowls, plugs etc to eliminate the obvious. Just heading out to nightshift, so while I'm away any other thoughts/opinions will be welcome. Sorry for the vague symptoms, but I've not had a chance to ride the bike myself
