Having last successfully run my DT back in August, I went to have another shot on it today. I changed the oil a few weeks ago but never got the bike running. Today I discovered certain young family members had robbed bolts and clutch levers etc, which I replaced today with ease. I also replaced the front sprocket. Unfortunately, after the bike started and idled it did not move when I selected 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear etc. I thought maybe it was the clutch adjustment but that was sorted and working fine. I noticed heavy oil deposits at the exhaust though and also at the cylinder block. I do hope its not leaked into the clutch or I have something broken in the gearb…

Hi..started a new thread on this. The bike only runs with choke out..soon as choke is in it starts to die. Swopped over the choke from another DT but made no difference. I have cleaned the carb twice now with carb cleaner and compressed air, as well as replaced the float valve and checked float height due to petrol coming out overflow.. All orifices and jets seem to be ok. Need some help here. My next step is to swop over carb from another DT to see if that cures it.

I have an X-Max 250 with a standard screen. The wind noise is terrible. I am 5ft 9ins tall, can anybody advise me as to whether it would be worth my while getting the larger/taller windscreen - as it's a lot of dosh if it doesn't work! Also, does anyone know if there is an alternative to the rear shock units that just seem to rust and look disgusting?

Complete rebuild of carb, Second set of carbs that is. New fuel lines, New petcock, New gas, New plug, New filter, New oil. Battery is full charge and it still dies when I'm off road. Was just out in front popping wheelies for my kid and that killed it too. It just loads up and dies. I have to hold the throttle wide open until it clears out. How can two different carbs have the same issues? About ready to pull the Shot Gun out and blast the shit out of it..Can you tell I'm beyond frustrated. Went through the electrical again and could not find any bad or loose connections. All I want to do is ride both dirt and street!! Street is fun but would really like to e…

Hey everyone, I am new to the forum, so let me know if there is somewhere else I should post this. I am about to start working on my first bike, its an '81 sr250. One of the first things I want to do is install a kickstarter. I am pretty confident that I could do the install myself, but I was wondering if there is a place that I could find an exact parts list of what I will need. Has anyone else done this? I found this but am not sure if I need every one of these parts or not. http://www.motosport.com/motorcycle/oem-parts/YAMAHA/1980/SR250/KICK-STARTER

Hello, I recently bought a 1988 XJ900 F Trike as a mini project for me & my dad!! We've a problem with the forks in that when you push the handle bars down & then release the forks don't come back up. We've been told it might be the springs. Has anybody got any ideas?

When changing gears when getting to around fourth she doesn't engage properly. Needs a second push into next gear. Is this a gear selector wear problem?

Well I've had my first bit of trouble with the bike. I was coming back from a longish journey, pulling up a hill I heard a bang, the the back wheel locked up completely, fishtailing the bike, then a grinding noise... I managed to yank the bike onto the pavement(not an easy task with the wheel still completely locked up) and saw that the chain had come off and caused quite a bit of damage to the chain guard and the general area around the back sprocket. I then removed some of the covers to get to the front sprocket and the chain had wrapped around three times completely jamming itself up against the engine casing. Just as I was about to loose my rag a bloke tapped me on th…

Wonder if anyone can help me with this one. Had a couple of failures recently, bikes cut out, electrics dead on both occasions. Battery flat both times, but the bikes been running very well in between those. After checking charging system, 2 possibilities left. One is the rotor, which ohms out on the bottom limit of the recommended spec, and the reg/rect which can't be checked out. Only getting 12.9 volts at 5,000 rpm. As the reg/rect is the cheapest and easiest option, I've plumped for that first. Problem is, previous owner cut off the plug in the loom and crimped the cables together. I've got the cables marked 1/2/3 as on now, but when the new one arriv…

It's been sitting for a few months after I drained the oil and I set about getting an ebay starter and just installed it. Tried the kick starter and it didn't act normal so I removed the cover and I could see that pushing down on the crank made the clutch assembly rotate ccw a few turns but the crank stopped dead and there was no piston movement. I remember back before draining the oil that the Kickstart had a funny feel to it when I pushed it down.(kind of an internal clicking) and didn't feel normal and it wasn't starting (I didn't go to the trouble of checking for piston movement -thought that since the old starter gave out years ago that I was wearing out the kic…

Hi everyone So I've had a few problems with my ybr but the latest is this, if anyone can give me any help. In the morning it's starts fine first time but then if I stop half way through my 30 mile journey for say fuel then I can't start the bike again. If I leave the bike for a while to cool down then it starts. My only thoughts are that it has something to do with the engine heat. I've checked the oil and it all seems fine, does anyone have any other things I can check? Thanks Neil

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has attempted to repair holed/leaking carb floats with epoxy (araldite) and the success or otherwise if so? I've tried but yet to put them back on the bike for a test. Cheers

The thing that stalled my project SR was the rear wheel. It needed so much work, I changed the rear disc brake from a drum and fitted an ally swingarm. The rear hub from an XT500 was laced in to a 3.5 x 18" inch rim then all the problems started. The sprocket carrier was worn and let the sprocket wobble badly - so badly i couldn't be sure I'd got the wheel spacer right to get the chain running true. Also the Motolana swing arm fouled the drum brake rod not to mention numerous other things that were needed just to get all the new parts to fit. Well after a long break the sprocket carrier was modified according to a German website: Bearing housing machined down Ne…
