Hello all, I came across this forum whilst searching for some help with my '81 XS250. Having ridden scooters for the past few years I thought it was time to make use of my full licence and finally get on to something with gears. I bought the XS just last Friday. The previous owner seemed very knowledgeable, had three old gleaming bikes sitting on his drive and a stack of paperwork relating to the XS. I meanwhile must have been displaying waterfalls behind my ears as I've had nothing but problems (in just six days!). Sadly I'm not very mechanically minded but the seller spent a lot of time talking me through various bits and pieces. He warned me, for example, that …

hi all not been on for a bit been working away. my dtr is running now as per my last post. wen i first got it the oil was creamy color so ive done a full rebuild and changed all seals and gaskets. i went for a ride out yesterday and come home to no coolant. ive undone the oil fill cap and notice creamy colored oil on the clutch so ive undone the oil drain plug to find its full with contaminated oil and the rest of my coolant. before i did the rebuild i did just replace the pump seal and then it was still the same this is wen iv done the rebuild so its had two water pump seals both were genuine thanks in advance guys

Hey guys! I'm having a few problems with my bike and was hoping some of you could help me out with a few answers. Currently I have a Yamaha YBR 125 with a busted cylinder, piston and cylinder head. Appearently one of the valves from the cylinder head had broken of and beat an actual hole in the piston! This is the second time in a year that i have had an engine breakdowm (I suspect it is because I bought a cheap china cylinder and piston). Now I'm considering to buy a big bore kit and a carb so I won't have to drive the bike so hard all the time. I heave heard that the yamaha ttr and the YBR has the excact same engine, so I think I'm going for a BBR 150ccm kit…

Hi ALl been a few yrs since I last posted here (was on a 125 back then - now riding a 2010 XJ6 S). Took the rear wheel off for a tyre change last weekend (mission in its self!) - as I pulled out the rear axle, and took off the brake caliper / abs sensor, this clip dropped down to the floor. for the life of me, i cannot find any reference to it anywhere in the service manual or any diagrams!? Slightly worried as I have now reassembled the bike and everything seems fine - just hate having this spare without knowing what it is? One thing to note is, on the right hand side (brake/abs side) - the alighnement screws at the back of the swing arm, while tight and…

Howdy, my rear shock has broken off at the bottom bracket and have tried to remove the rustified bolt by soaking in everything and belting the bejasus out of it. NOTHING. Any ideas please. Can any one tell me the cheapest place to buy parts for my bike. At the moment I need the bottom mounting bolt seals etc. Most of the sites on here eg Suttons are waaaaay too expensive. Regards Eddie

Hi I've been looking at the Haynes manual site and eBay for a hard copy of a service manual for the XVS125 Dragstar, but I can't even find the exsistence of such a manual! Does anyone know if a manual exists for the XVS125 and if so, where I can buy one? If it doesn't exist, is there a manual about for a similar bike (Virago?) that I can buy in it's place? This is all new to me and I'd like to know my bike better. Many thanks Mark

subsequent to the battery running dry and over heating all bulbs on the bike blew apart from headlight and the rev counter stopped. Have replaced battery and all bulbs and now only the right hand front flasher fails and the rev counter and the right hand flash light on the console. Condition of indicator is good. Checked the litle bulb in the instrument console and looks ok. Right hand rear flashes fine but fast, left side perfect. Any ideas as due MOT. Also i understand rev counter not needed for mot but if i take off all the indicators i have to disconnect headlight and tail lamps, is this true?. Anyway i would rather fix it but running out of time,.. any sugestionss ve…

hi everyone! was wondering if anyone can help me here with my 1987 Yamaha fz600. I was riding a few days ago and my bike started to backfire and then started to loss speed and I tried downshifting to see if it would do anything but I just kept losing speed then the bike shut off. before that I had shut my bike off once and it started right up then I did it again after riding for 20 miles and shut it off again the tried to start it and it wouldn't start. battery died and had to jumpstart it. I started to ride it back home and that's when it started to backfire and loss power and had shut off. I towed the bike home to the battery out and acid levels where low. I had my…
