Just picked this bike up at a pretty good deal. 2002 Yamaha YZF600R. less than 6k miles. figured it was best to get a 600cc bike to learn on rather than something bigger, and nothing new. That way if i ever dropped it i wouldnt cry myself to sleep. I had to force myself to ignore anything bigger i saw. Ive been wanting a bike since i was 15, im 21 now and jumped on the deal without much thinking. dumb, i know. but i did it. Im sure some of you can understand the feeling though. Anyways. I just got it, and its a little difficult to operate the rear brake for me. Probably because im so tall. If the foot peg was a little higer, or the brake lever didnt sit so h…

I'm going to restore my rusting kickstarter (see picture below). I know how to kill the rust and prep it for painting, but I'm not sure if the original finish is chrome, or just a chrome paint. I was hoping one of you could help me out with some of your experience. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to restore it...I'm all ears. Thanks, BrewTrooper (a.k.a. Ken)

Just got a nice 1983 RX50 from a friend. Great little performer and tremendous fun for running around town, too. A couple of tech questions for the more experienced: 1. The oil ine running from around the gearbox to the carm is a piece of 3/16" OD tubing coupled to the 3/16" fitting on the carb with about 2" of what looks like 3/16" ID fuel line- the whole thing just slips together, with no clamp. Is this right? We put a nylon tie-wrap on it to hold it in place. 2. The lights don't work unless the bike is running, and even then they're a bit weak at low RPMs. My impulse is to change the battery, but is there anything that could fail and allow the lights to work with…

Evening, I'm about mid-way through dismantling my first bike to replace a weeping oil seal. Doing this alone is possible but I have also ordered bushings and so require to dismantle the folks completly. I was told that it should be possible to use an air-gun to remove the bottom bolt from the folks so I can dismantle the inner from the outer tube, but I have had no luck so far. I've been quoted £80 to dis-assemble and re-assemble the folks at a garage, which is reasonable I guess, but does any one in the area have the tools and experience to possibly give me a hand with this? I've got so far and have already spent £65 on the parts and I just don't have a spare £80 to han…

Just got a 1979 XS400F and I am trying to do some general maintenance. I changed the oil, oil filter, and plugs and tightened every nut and bolt I could find. Now for my questions about lubing: What do I need to lube? How do you lube it? - Specifically, the cables. How often should I lube it? The bike seems to be running well so I don't really want to mess with it too much, but are there any other general maintenace procedures that I should look into? Thanks.

The Meta 351A alarm on my 1998 R1 has died (the internal battery went flat and locked me out) I have removed the alarm but cannot get the bike to run at all now. The starter circuit is dead. I had no wiring diagram for the alarm. Has anyone attempted this before and if so can you please help. The starter/ignition circuit has obviously been modified during the alarm installation and needs bridging somewhere. I am getting power as far as the starter relay but the starter button does not activate the starter motor. Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

I'm cleaning up my 1981 XS400's front fender and I was looking for suggestions on how to treat the underside which has a nice layer of rust. (See photos via URL/link below): Fender Photos As you can see from the photos, the underside has a nice layer of rust that has formed. How would you recommend going about removing the rust and then treating/painting it after I do? I plan on cleaning up the chrome with some stell wool. It has some pitting, but otherwise is in good shape considering... If anyone has other recommendations I'm all ears. Thanks!!!! BrewTrooper (a.k.a. Ken)

Can anyone help, my 97 thundercat is overheating only if stationary or heavy traffic, it's fine otherwisewhilst riding at speed. The extent of this is that coolant sprays out of the overflow pipe from the expansion tank. Any tips would be gratefully recieved.

first of all let me say hi to all you folks out there with yam's. i'm just after a bit of knowledge on the old DOHC 750 shaftie, something i've dreamed of owning since i first saw them in 1977, and now own after my very first winning bid on ebay ( and probably the last if my wife has any say on the matter ) anyway to the question do these things run ok on unleaded fuel? or will i need to introduce some sort of additive into the tank the bike in question is a 1978 vintage XS 750E and i know bad things will happen to me now i've got it, and most of the gearbox is made out of cheese, and the electrics were made before they invented copper wire, and the brakes …

Well My brother gave me his 1980 xs1100 after not riding it for two years. I put a new batttery in it and started it up and it was letting it warm up not on choke for about 15 minutes then I give it a couple revs and it puffs white smole and it dies. I then look at the air filter housing and its dripping oil. so I removed the air filter housing. and is was full of oil. I started it today without the housing on and again after about 10-15 minutes it started to spray oil out of the tube that goes from the air filter housing to the crank case. I am new to motorcylcles and want to get this on the road. thanks for any help, will
