i have a trx 850 1999- because it had done a fair mileage and the valves were worn , i chose to buy a top end off ebay, this was said to be a trx barrel pistons/head- anyway it turns out that the head is different- it had different cams, and the rocker cover from my trx doesnt match the new head- we have swapped cams over- and all is well except i need to know what model 850 twin the new head came from- the seller on ebay was told it was trx- but can anyone suggest which model i need to source a rocker cover from ? i do know the trx engine was a slightly tuned version of the earlier tdm 850- yet at barton bike night last wednesday -i saw a tdm and the rocker …

I have an 87 FZR 1000, the generator has been sounding very noisy and just started to heat up on the red wire were it connects in to the wiring system, I figured getting another generator would take care of all the problems but the model numbers are close, found one from a 92 but the model numbers are very close but not the same, the B3GA number matches though. Any one with first hand knowing of this for cross refrence or other year bike parts that fit the FZR1000, please help soon, summer is half over and we do not get much sunny days here on the mid Oregon coast. Thank you. TWLyons

I have a 1986 Yamaha FZ 600 that is leaking oil from what seems like the oil filter housing and/or the oil filter bolt, can I use gasket sealer arround theoil filter housing?? I talked to a Yamaha dealer and they said I can't buy a gasket for the oil filter housing bolt (I have to buy the whole oil filter bolt pressure assm.), is that an o-ring or can I make a gasket for that? I also have a oil leak at the to of the cover to the chain /countershaft sprocket cover (l. engine side), its and alen head bolt ,right below the starter. I tried to tighten the bolt but it still leaks.....

Pushing my bike along to park it up for the night I noticed a scraping noise coming from what sounded like the brake caliper. I put the bike up on the centre stand and pushed back on the bike so I could turn the front wheel. It definitely sounds like a fairly regular scraping noise is coming from the caliper. I'm wondering if it could be the front pads catching on the disk or something? I've had a search on the net to see if I could find out any helpful information about changing the brake pads as I figure that should be the first step, but couldn't find anything. Is it fairly straightforward, or should I just find a local specialist to take it to? TIA, Stax…

After taking my 94 fzr600r for its regular service, my mechanic told me that he is unwilling(at least until it needs doing) to remove my number 3 plug out. His explaination was that the tip of the plug has got caught on the end of the alluminum thread, and if he were to force the plug out then it would remove the entire thread. He told me that this is a common problem with fzr's. Is this a problem anyone else has had, and if so is there anything i can do???

Hi everyone just joined up at last, Ive a xt550 which needs new exhaust valves which are now discontinued stock. Does anyone know if the XT 600 top end fits on as the only difference i can find is the valves are .035 thou bigger diameter and the bore is slightly bigger but with the same stroke. Any info on this great bike would be great eg any tuning mods or alternative carbs etc. Thanks Martin

Hello all, I have a dead battery but am unable to find a simple way of getting a charger on it. The few things that I have found on it want me to remove the gas tank. Is that true? Seems extreme? Anyone found a better way? Thanks

I have a '76 yamaha 650. The key I have for the ignition doesn't work in the gas cap, so it doesn't close. It looks like it's just the wrong key and not a broken cap. The cap has 3194 stamped on it and they has 3170. I think I can get a key made for the gas cap, but the ignition switch moves pretty freely instead of stopping like I imagine it should, so sometimes it doesn't turn on unless you get it just right. Would it be better to just get a new ignition and see if they can get it keyed the same as the gas cap? Do they even do that, or will I need to get new ones of both? Aaron

After many years of riding "conventional" bikes I recently bought an XV250 Route 66 American import cruiser but find I am not comfortable with the "sit up and beg" riding style. I love the bike otherwise and so was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to convert the handlebars, footrest etc to more conventional street bike settings. Or is that sacrilege ? !!
