Hello, I have a thundercat which was laid up in the back yard for the last couple of years. I recently got it back together (well last year, mostly) and took it back to castle combe this week (which was four king awesome even if i did ride like a girl - well not even that good to be honest :S) At the end of the day it was starting to sound like a bag of nails, my mate thought the exhaust was blowing a bit, but i can definately hear a clackity clack sound, sortta like tappets ( you can hear it on the video i shot with a camera in place of the headlamp!) Does anyone have an idea of what it could be? before i ask someone to look at it. …

I have a 4xv R1 that im turning into a track bike and have bought a set of wheels that i though were off an R1 but have since found that the rear is off a 98-00 R6 (5eb stamped on wheel ). The rear wheel sits in the swinging arm ok and the disc lines up ok as does the rear sprocket. Just wondered if it would be ok to use this rim as its only a 5 1/2 inch wide and the one on the r1 is 6 inch. Has anyone done this before? Your ideas and thoughts on this please Thanks Nathan

Hi All, I wonder if anyone can help please? my 1999 650 Dragstar has done 1800 miles, (yes I know), it will start ok, but usually won't run cleanly, intermitently it spits back thru the carbs, then wont tickover, I've checked all the usual stuff plugs cleaned carbs air cleaner but to no avail. It seems like a fuel problem with the poor running but then it goes and backfires!!! I'm at a bit of a loss. Thanks in advance.

I have been having an ongoing problem. I have a brand new battery(2 months old). I keep the battery on a trickle charger, when not riding. I road 40 miles today and the battery went dead, the bike just died, and would not start again (dead battery). The bike shows with an amp meter at the battery with 11-12 volts at idle, 14.85 volts at high rev. The connector on the rectifier looked bad, so I deleted the connector and hard wired it, that was about 3 weeks ago. I rode aorund town short rodes 10-15 min each way. Had no problem until today. The riding done today was at speeds of 35-55mph. Rpm's were from 3000 to 5000 all day, so the battery should of been charging, but s…

My 2003 Fazer 600 is used for summer weekend rides (3000miles) and has until now been 100% reliable. I have charged the battery over night and it is fully charged. Ignition green light comes on in neutral but starter motor will not turn-over so won't start. Any ideas please so I can get out this weekend ? Many thanks..

I'm just putting a new clutch in my TR1 - my Bible (haynes, blessem) says to tighten the clutch springs to required torque but doesn't specify anywhere (yes, I looked in the torque settings list... ) what it should be, Anyone know? Or feel like a guess? Also - how important is thread-locking agent on the retainer bolts?

Having finally found a manual for my old XS400 DOHC, I set about checking the valve clearances. Sure enough, they were all tight. One had no clearance at all, and that was the cylinder which doesn't like to play at first. So, duly measured, noted and calculated I went to the shop to buy the three I needed. Tried to fit them last weekend only to find out they were too small. Not the thickness, but the diameter. They're the wrong shims. Back to the shop today, and they have to order them... I suppose their offer of "If you got the thicknesses wrong, bring them back and we'll change them" has expired now... Arse.

Hi all, new to the forum and to the pleasures of the R1 , just changed from an 03 SV1000s. And haven't stopped smiling since. I bought a mint 2002 (carb model) R1 and have since bought a steering damper and fitting kit. I was just wondering if anyone have a copy of the instructions for the fitting kit as I want to make sure its fitted right before I make an attempt to fit it. It all looks pretty straight forward but just want to be sure. I look forward to speaking to you all soon. Skins

I have two problems with my bike. First one. The spark plug hole has been stripped. I can get a spark plug to screw in a bit tight, but when the engine is running, you can hear air escaping the plug hole where the plug is not tight enough. I know the right way to do it would be to take off the cylinder head and heilcoil it, but that is a pretty big job for a novice and I only paid $400 bucks for the bike. I was thinking I would just put some high temp JB weld in there. I don't want to put a whole lot of money into the bike, its pretty banged up already. I don't think putting the jb weld in there will hurt anything. Since you have to bore a bigger hole anyways to put y…

Hello. I need your opinion about the following problem. When I start the bike with the choke on, it idles normally. But as soon as I pull the choke off, the revs begin to go up rapidly. This can be adjusted on the carb, but then the idling with the choke on is impossible and the bike occasionally stalls at traffic lights. I cleaned the carb recently, it wasn't dirty anyway. The spark plugs are covered in dry matt black fouling, indicating the fuel/air mixture is too rich. What can be causing this? Any ideas are welcome.

Yamaha FJ600, 1984, Need help with Airbox removal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to remove the airbox. It is jammed into a little triangle of the frame below the seat. I have the carbs off, the battery and battery holder off, the airbox loose. It does not look like it will come out without removing other components. Will removing the starter allow it to come out? Otherwise it appears the engine must be moved or removed. Help.

Hi, i have a yamaha atv. Its a 4-stroke, 1-cyl, ac, 348cc SOCH. I was woundering; 1. What do you have to remove, generally, to replace a cylinderfot gasket? Is it complicated? 2. When the engieen is cold (just after start), i can feel like small "hits". Its nothing you hear, just feel (in you as ). Is it something to be worried about? Could it be knocking? Thanks for any help!!

Recently obtained a 78 DT100 that had been sitting for a year. Wouldn't start with out priming it then it would die, so I cleaned the carb. Now, it will still only start if I prime the carb. And once it starts it idles at full bore and, of course, smokes terribly. The idle adjustment seems to have no effect, and as far as I can tell the throttle cable isn't stuck. What's my next step? Thanks.
