Hello there! I am a proud owner of a 1985 Yamaha Maxim XJ700. I found a carburetor (desperately needed) for a slightly different model bike, XJ750. Will this carb work on my bike ? I have tried to give a look to the excellent parts manual on the Yamaha web site and the differences seem to be minimal......on the parts codes which are most of the time the same. Any help please would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Marco

What can be the problem whit the bike ? Im really new to 4-stroke bikes so im i need of help. And when its warm its nearly impossible to start and that sucks when im in competition cause i have ben forced to quit two races because of this problem. Ive tried to use the compressien leaver but it dosent help very much i just kick to the point where the kicker gets stone hard. I hope you understand or else help me so i can explain it properly. After 4 years my 2001 Fazer 600 has finely let me down… Started this morning without fuss, stopped at shop for pie and paper, but she failed to start, all I was getting was a clicking from under the seat (starter relay?), press button = click. The battery is charged up fine, but bought another one and still the same. Is this likely to be the starter/bushes, or any other part of the press button brum brum process? Any advice would be appreciated, as she is a large part of my life, and I will need to buy the bits in, so I would hate to buy the wrong bit. Oh, she will bump start, but thought I'd left that behind in the 80's with my XT500 Many thanks

Thanks for your replies to the running problem. Got in touch with FOC_U, who have been very helpful. It seems there was a recall, which has passed me by. It looks that the problem could be the TPS system, what ever that is, the recall also included the front end sprocket. Will call main dealer and will let you know the response. Regards Richie

So last night I checked valve clearance and the exhaust was in spec on both sides but the intake is out. it's around .003 and needs to be around .006 I believe. I have the special tool, followed the manual but wasn't able to access the shim to pull it out. It seems the tool wasn't holding the valve down or somthing. It's a motion pro after market tool. I could be doing soemthing wrong. Any advice, tricks to make it work??? Here's a pic of the tool installed. Thanks Lino

Hi Great Site Just Found it. Iv got a problem with my Yam Iv just got it and started to get it running it had a problem with it old carbs so the guy got another set cam with the bike. I put them on after checking floats and neddles they was all clean and in good condition. My tank has 2 peterol taps each side of the tank with 2 outlets. the carbs have 2 pipes on the bottom of the carbs intake i think and 2 pipes futher up on the carbs return pipes i think. When I turn the petrol taps on petrol pours out of the backs of each carbs in to the air box. I change the pipes round on each tap because I thought I might have got the in pipes and returs pipes the wrong way round…

Hi everyone, I just purchased my first bike, a 2000 yzf600r. It has 23,000 miles on it so I figured there needed to be some maintence done. The owner got new tires, sparks, and chain. The sprockets, clutch and brake seem to be good, The clutch is kind of lose but I can adjust that with the bolt on the cable right? So I was wondering if there was anything I needed to change since it has such high milage, i.e. the carbs. Thanks guys!

I have power to the headlight fuse but nothing at the headlight. Is there something in between that could be malfunctioning? All other lights work. I can 't find a wiring diagram. Any ideas how to diagnose this problem?

I have bought a XT600 (3TB) which has had a different right hand side engine cover fitted and so the oil feed pipe has been modified to take the feed off the bleed screw at the oil filter. Is this modification sufficient? Also, does this motor need an oil cooler? Thanks

Hi everyone, As you can tell I'm new to this forum, and relativly speaking new to motorcycling. I've been riding for only 2 years, I'm 22, but enough of my life story. I'm trying to throw the line out here for some help; I've found a few forums that I'm going to be posting on for some advice. [edit to include information at the top] I have a 1984 Yamaha Maxim XJ750 with ~32000 km on it. The issue: The bike runs normally, everything is fine at any other range of speed, heat, weather, etc., except for 4500 - 5500 rpm, with the worst being at 5000 rpm. And, for lack of better description at exactly 5000 rpm it sounds like the engine's going to fall out. At …
