I recently purchased a '79 SR500 and am looking to put spoke wheels on it. I have been told XS650 fronts and TT/XT rears will bolt right on it. I have rear disc wheels and am assuming I will only be able to find drum rears with spokes. I know I will have to weld on a tab for the anti-rotation bar for the drum. Anyone have any definitive answers on what wheels I should be searching the junkyards/Ebay for? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have not been able to find any absolute info on this. I have access to some minor machining but it's very limited. Thanks again in advance. Bhodi

Hmmm, my H-reg XJ600 pre-diversion apparently has two ignition boxes. One under the seat on the left attached to a bolt on aluminium plate(box 1), and the other attached to the battery bracket (box2). A couple of times recently the bike has failed to start and produced no spark. The fix is to disconnect box 1 !! The bike fires up and runs fine. Both times I've then stopped the bike, reconnected box 1, and it runs fine. Anybody got any ideas what is going on ? Thanks

I need to find out how to check the rectifier/regulator. After 1 week of riding the battery will go dead. I have a brand new battery, check the generator output at the battery. At idle I got battery voltage, at high rev I got up to 14.85 volts. I can figure what is causing me this problem. Thanks for any help.

The bike is a 2005 roadstar 1700. I bought the bike used, has 7000 kms, about 3500 miles. I've only had it for days, took my first good cruise on it when I noticed between 1500-2000 rpm's under light acceleration a light engine knock. It wasn't there when I started out, so it seems to happen only when the engine is warmed up. I use to dyno test engines for a living and am used to listening for all kinds of noises, maybe this is what it's suppose to sound like? It has cobra pipes and has been re-jetted. Any ideas? Sure do love the bike and am hoping this is nothing to be concerned about. Can any one help?

Hi I was riding my TZR250 (2ma 1990) home tonight and the clutch cable broke, so I changed gears without it. When I got home the I had a good look at the cable and it is intact but there is no tension on the cable. It appears to be something inside the clutch case. Any ideas? Thanks Fellas

The pull rod has play in it, like it is floating in no-man's-land. So I install the cover, slide the pin down the slot, and it hooks up to the pull rod in the clutch. When you rotate the pin to hook up the clutch cable, it will only rotate a little bit, just like the pull rod is only moving about in the no-man's-land area. It's not springy. Now with that said, here's the background...I was riding home the other day and the bike wasn't shifting right. I get home and found that it had developed an oil leak, and was low on oil. The low oil idiot light had not come on though. So I fixed the oil leak(crank seal), and started up the street. However, it was now nearly imposs…

I just recently tore the carbs apart and cleaned them up. When we reassembled them and installed them on the bike we were kind a confused about the vacuum line that connects to the piece between the carb and the engine. When we took the carbs off the right carb had a vacuum line attached but not going to anything, and the left carb had a vacuum plug on it. Now it does run with that set up but after about 5 minutes of riding it just dies, then after kicking it about a million times it starts up again but only stays running with the throttle fully open, and the engine is only at idle speed with the throttle wide open.

Hi all, just found and joined this site as i'm trying to solve a problem. I have a gorgeous xt250 1980 which is almost restored to original condition. This is a true classic that needs to fly again! I have a problem with weak spark which makes starting sluggish and backfires and misfires at high rpm. I have had the pick-up and charge coils tested and have rewired the coils to the loom to ensure good connections. I have renewed the ignition coil,ht lead, spark plug and cap.The pick-up coil air gap is correct. The battery is good and is charging ok when running.Still weak spark. I'm thinking possibly CDI unit is faulty but don't want the expense if it doesn't cure the probl…

when i first got my RXS 100, it ocasionally had a kinda high pitched whine, that was engine speed related, but this cleared itsself up, but then about 2 weeks ago i pull up to lights and the whine returns i look down to check for neutral and find my rev counter bouncing off the red line, but my engine is idaling, ihmm i tihnk, give it a rev and the need falls off and it jsut start to spin, oh deer i tihnk, and now when i ride the rev counter just act eratically some times resembling normal and other times looking more spinny than a ride on Nemisis, any ideas, ? regards john

Ran last summer fine. Failed to winterize. Have installed new plugs. Removed and confirmed fuel filter not blocked. Fuel pump is cycling. Is this a case for Carb removal and cleaning. How do you synch carbs afterwards? Anyone got a disassembly procedure? Sure would like some help on this. It can't be serious. samjon

Hi gang, I have just aquired a 1980 DT250 in super condition, however, the engine has all the symptoms of a too rich throttle slide, runs fine at tickover and when starting to pull away, open throttle to between 1/8 and 1/4 and it four strokes, give it a big handfull and it clears with an occassional misfire. I have checked the reeds for damage, they are OK, the carb is a 30mm Mikuni with 150 main jet, 50F33 needle and 1.5 slide. Carb is not flooding. Exhaust is standard except for Fresco silencer. I have machined slides in the past on 2 stroke carbs to get the mixture just right and am happy to machine the 1.5 but would like to know if 1.5 is correct or if it has been…
