  1. I have a 1986 FZ600 (California model if it matters). A few years ago the valve seals were blown and it was burning oil for a while, and then would not even run. Over the past year I’ve rebuilt the engine entirely but did not touch the carbs. At that time it started but did not idle well, and also leaked fuel on the ground until the tank was empty independent of what mode the petcock setting (on/off/reserve). I then rebuilt the carburetors so everything is cleaned and the floats were adjusted while disassembled. I did not sync the carbs with a vacuum guage but the butterfly valves are very close to equal in position at idle. And I also repaired the vacuum seal in th…

Peoples, I have a fairly major fuel leak out of the fuel tap on the TY. I have dismantled the tap and found the 'diamond' shaped gasket in a worn condition. Where can I get a new gasket? Or do I have to get a new complete fuel tap?

This bike has a new battery. After riding for a week (2 hours back and forth to work) with no problem, while turned off for a momentary stop it wouldn't start again. After a day of sitting it started and ran for about 15 minutes then would not start. Cleaned the overflow from the battery (excess acid) and it ran like a dream for a day. Last trip after about 45 minutes on the road lights and instruments got dimmer and then went off completely and engine quit. Can anyone point me in the right direction at what to look for? Electric is not my strong point. Downloaded a service manual but doesn't seem to help. Thanks.

THis is a repeat of my submission to the bar forum. My first foray onto a bike website and it may surprise you when I readily admit to being in the trade but needing help fro anyone out there. I 've returned to the workshop after fifteen years out of it and my mission on this one is to turn an XT 600 Z into a goer. We had already repaired two other bikes in the last month that had been into another nearby local bike dealers who charged thier owners megabucks and still had not returned the machines as runners. We are determined to find the problem on the Tenere which unfortunately has also been to the rogue dealer down the road and it also had its generator and possi…

Hello everyone Hoping someone has some advice. I have a YP250 4 stroke. It recently had a new camshaft & bearings installed. Since then it has a rattling noise in the engine. Very predominant when accelerating and almost disappears when idle. The acceleration is also quite sluggish. I have thought this may be tappet settings or the timing chain. Any ideas anyone?

  10. Hi I have a yamaha aerox 50cc scooter with a Malossi 70 cc cylinder kit installed M# 318284. The after market rubber intake manifold has a leak and I can't seem to find a replacement manifold to fit the cylinder. Since I moved to the USA I can't get parts for the Aerox scooter. Do you know where I could find this manifold either on an internet parts supply or at a retail scooter parts store outside the USA. Thanks Much Bruce

I just bought a 1994 XJ600 Seca2. I love the bike but I also bought it knowing that the bike needed some work. Such as new rear shock (To support my 220lb frame), new clutch, and also a new air filter. I'm wanting to get a new air filter next (Like a K&N) but can't figure out how to get to the air box. I believe it's under the gas tank but I have no clue how to get to it. Am I going to have to remove the front fairings, gas tank, etc to get to it? If so then how hard is it? Any help is appreciated Mark

I've been helping a friend get his low-mileage 1986 XV-700 back on the road after being stored for over 10 years. We found a lot of thick sludge in the gas tank and the the rest of the fuel system. We had to resort to putting the fuel tank into a tumbler and filled it with nuts and bolts and laquer thinner to remove the sludge inside, and I've disassembled and cleaned the carburetors, and replaced some of the vacuum lines and so on. I've gotten the bike to the point that it will run, but especially once it is warmed up, the engine has a tendency to race, i.e. it won't drop down to a slow idle quickly, or it will just sort of run along at about 3500 RPMs or so..I don't…

Have an 86XV700, but a month ago bought a 96 Virago 750 with only 3241 miles on her. Gonna sell the 700. Just wondering if there is anything to keep an eye on with the 96? She is just like new & performs just like new also. The handlebar position is way more comfortable than the older 700. If there are any quirks I should watch out for, please let me know.----Thanks---Daniel

Hi Hope someone can help me with some ideas. I have a 1989 YB100 purchased from ebay and lovingly restored over the last 2 years including new bearings oil seals etc. It has been running reasonably well until about a week ago, when it started 'breaking' spark plugs - a new plug would run for only a few miles and die - ie weak or now spark. The colour of the plug was dark grey/black but not oily suggesting a rich mixture. I adjusted the carb and oil pump to try and acheive a leaner mixture - but no success, and today on a ride out it went through 3 plugs and finally died completely and had to be trailered home! An initial strip down indicated damage to the piston…

The 78 is running great for the time. The problem we are having is the rear brake master cylinder is showing signs of old age. We are looking for the whole master cylinder not a rebuild kit. The bike is a 1978 yamaha XS750 special. If anyone knows where we can find a new master cylinder we would appreciate it.

This Problem has been occurring more often and is keeping me from ridding Before it would happen like this(go to warm the bike up in the morning and it would not start, let it sit an hour or so. boom fires right up. I assumed it was the carbs cause that was it's main problem at the time. But recently I have rebuilt the carbs and the bike runs perfect with exception it dies 10min's after warm up. It's just like someone walked up an hit the kill switch "silence". I checked all plugs for spark and nothing, it still turns over fine and gets all it's air an fuel but no spark, so I know it's not any of the kill switches. I'm scared to ride it fearing that it might die at …
