Hi to everybody. My first posting here. I've recently got an XS250, 1978-ish, I think. It starts OK, idles at 1000-ish rpm for a little while, and then decides to idle at 4,000 or 5,000 rpm! Clearly a carburetion problem (?), but I'm new to motorcycles and am not sure where to start. I have the Haynes manual and the bike has what the book refers to as the "lever choke type" carburettor (fig 2.1, p60). At least I can get as far as confirming that this is not as simple as needing throttle cable adjustment - the throttle control arm is resting against the end-stop. A friend said that the mixture may be wrong, eg. running too lean, and suggested that I adjust the pil…

Hello there. I recently bought a Yamaha Majesty YP125 which is in good nick. The only thing wrong with it was the electrical connector for the rear licence plate light. The rubber had perished and ruined the cable, anyone know where I can find another one of these? Cheers, James

Hi, I would be greatful if anyone could give me some advise on my 2002 FZS600 , just purchased this bike and it performs very well. But at tickover the cam chain is quite noisey , the dealer has replaced the tensioner but no change. At higher revs the noise seems to disappear but that might be because its masked by the engine noise. NO performance issues at all but the dealer will replace the cam chain if we suspect its had it. The bike has done 18K miles so i dont think it should be word too bad. Engine oil and oil filter also replaced with no change so im wondering if this is just part of its character ? Thanks in advance

Hi guys, this is one ive not seen before, my speedo fluctuates when i am riding, if traveling at 75 mph the speedo needle will drop to 60 or so then back up to 75, then it may drop to 30 ish and back up again. i`m suspecting the spedo cable (if you can call it a cable) but not 100% sure. Any ideas?

hey there! Recently I've bought a stolen/recovered 2003 DT 125 so my girlfriend could come green laning with me. The bike was in bits, I put it back together minus most of the wiring for the lights etc. I bought and connected a pre 92 CDI unit, opened power valve on full, managed to get it started but then dies after a few minutes. Just wondering if anyone knows what the problem could be? I've tried a different carb off a pre 92 just incase it was set up different, still doesnt solve the problem. Do I need to adjust the carb at all? Many thanks!

I have a 82 XJ 550. The bike ran fine and now it is pouring fuel out the air intake. I have changed the needle and seats and adjusted the floats. It will idle and then when I rev it to 6000rpms then when I let off it will shoot the fuel out the air intake (coming from the crankcase) I don\´t know what else to do. Is it a carb problem or something else like a valve???????

Hi all, i'm new to the forum and looking for a bit of advice. i just fitted replacement clutch set (ebc p/n: ck2350), friction plates only, to my 2000 r1. the bike creeps when in gear with clutch lever in, and i cannot change gear when stationary, i.e can't get it back into neutral. i disassembled & re-fitted it twice ( used haynes manual as a guide), there are no strange noises etc. cable is adjusted per manual, slack etc & plates were soaked for 3 hrs before hand. it's filled with motul 10w 40 bike oil, both oil & filter changed with clutch. on riding it i can change up and down gears more or less as normal when in motion, but you can feel it's tight. …

Hello all, I have a very stiff link on my chain, I can work it free but seems to be stiff when I ride the bike the next day, and makes a noise going over the front sprocket. (I'm guessing it’s this that’s causing the noise). Is this due to a missing O-ring or is there anything I can do to free it up totally? Also what damage am I doing by riding it (80 miles a day) with a stiff link? Cheers,,

(1) I just got a 1980 Yamaha 650 Maxima I I Noticed that the Battery Compartment Area Is very small.Looks about 4''X 8'' Almost looks like a Scooter Battery Size. Can't seem to figure it out. This bike has no Kick starter,So I would think that it would take a bigger battery. Does anyone Know what size battey(Type,Model,No#) Why in the world would someone make a bike with no Kicker. (2)I Also, have one Vacume Line coming from the Carb Boot. All the others are Plugged Off. On my 1100 the Vac- line goes to the Air Filter Box. But, on this 650 it don't have a Nipple on the Filter Box for a Vacume Line hookup . Does anyone know where it goes? Or am I Missing somethin…

I bought this bike a couple weeks ago. I was told the carbs were recently cleaned and synched. The bike sounds like it backfires/or misses though when it heats up some, 2-3min of running. The person I bought it from had the spark plugs changed also, and said that was when the missing started, the wires were not changed and he was told that, or the coils were more than likely the problem. Is there a way for me to test and see what the problem may be? I tried to see if I could see any sparks or anything in the dark but saw nothing, and the wires look to be hardwired into the coil. Thanks
