I have a 1982 Yamaha 650. Is there anyone that can assist me with this issue. When I am changing gears the engine appears to stay revved and wont idle down. The carbs have been cleaned and synched. When I put the bike on the center stand, with the enine off, and put the gear in neutral, the back wheel rolls freely. When I shift the transmission into any gear, the back wheel feels like the clutch is still partially engaged. Just for a litle more background, this bike has been stored in a garage and hasnt been runing for 8 years, but its in great shape, and runs like a champ. Also, one other question, the RPMS at 60 MPH are sitting at 5000, is this normal to have such high…

  2. Hi, I've been offered a pair of front calipers from a ThunderAce, whilst they look similar to the blue dot R1 ones, are they the same? I'm afraid I don't know what year Ace they are from. Secondly, if I fit them to my YZF750, will I need new braided lines or is it a case of try it and see if they reach? Cheers

Hello and greetings from Spain. Not a bike owner myself but my son is and has lost his bike key! He is off to OZ in a couple of weeks and wants to sell the bike (not without a key he won't). Ignition barrel quite worn so we have a key that fits, seat lock never has been a good fit and it can be taken off, fuel tank is the problem. I have seen a replacement cap on ebay - can anyone tell me is it just a case of undoing the eight hex bolts and bolting on the replacement cap? Sorry, have just found mention of a similar topic - looks like the answer is no then ...!

Hi and thank you in advance. I just got this bike and it runs great once you get t started. The problem is the starter drive keeps kicking out. I have a 1978 XS650 with the same problem-sounds like a bunch of marbles until it actually kicks in and turns over. XSmike.com sells a kit for the problem for the XS650. I am wondering if this is the same setup as the TX500. On the XS650,it is a problem with the spring behind the clutch basket. The spring is too weak to keep the starter drive kicked in and so it grinds and sounds like a bunch of marbles.I have not taken the right side cover off yet, thought I would ask if it is the same as the XS650 before I take it apart.

I finally found someplace that has a real manual including a color coded electrical diagram. If you have an old DT model? You need one of these. IT HAS EVERYTHING.. www.faxonautolit.com

Hi, I just bought a 10 year old (1998) xj 600 n, i rode it back from where I bought it, about 30 miles, pushing it admittedly at times. When I got home and put it on its sidestand, oil started to drip from a tube (could be some kind of dump valve?) at the front of the engine, on top of it. It just looks like a short black tube with an open end. It dripped for about 2 mintues, then stopped. I've ridden it twice since, not so far, not so long, not so fast, but did do about 15-20 miles today. This time, no oil leaked out. I checked the oil level and it looks like its been filled a bit above the max line. Could it just be excess oil escaping from the valve when the b…

  9. Hi, Ive just bought my first 'big' bike which is a 2001 Yzf600 Thundercat. I love the bike (apart from the clunky gearbox) but could do with a few bits of advice from current or previous owners: - Firstly, I suspect I'll need new tyres in the next 1000miles or so, any good advice for a good set of all rounders for any weather? - Silencer, because I live near the coast in Snowdonia, I supect that the standard black silencer may deteriorate quite quickly so I'll probably be putting a new silencer on when I can. At present I'm looking at a stainless or Carbon Blue Flame oval one but after looking at the current silencer, it looks like the fairing is in the way of detac…

Hi guyz, although I have alot of know how in car engines, I'm pretty weak on motorcycle engines. About 2 years ago, I bought a pretty roughly used TDR125 4GW, which since then, did my best to refurbish it. Lately, I have started hearing a spin-scraping sound coming from the right-hand side of the engine. At first glance, I thought it was from the crank/arm bearings, but later realized that I had renewed them only 6 months ago. Later on, I decided to check the gearbox oil and found out that it had insufficient amount of oil in it, which had turned slimy. After changing the oil, the scraping sound lessened but, made me realize that the sound was actually coming fr…

Hi i just purchased a YZF 750 R 1995. 1st up let me say what a great site ...as I am new to biking I would like to ask your opinion on certain things. 1.Is there a replacement tail light I could use to change the standard one as an l.e.d? 2.How easy is it to change the rear section to the R6 tail section? 3.Sometimes when I pull away, then go into second sometimes the engine dies and then starts with no problems and is ok? 4.Where can i get the decals if need be for this bike if anything happens to them? 5.What other mirrors could I use for this bike as i think the standard ones are a bit in the big side? Thanks in advance to anyone who will answer my…

Mine are gone. They started to "crack" over bumps, so I tightened them slightly. They not have a notch in the straight ahead position. Now, any suggestions what to get? I will get taper roller bearings, but what make? I have found some suppplied by Pyramid Parts. They ghave been around 35 years, and supply bearings for most every bike. They are £19.99 for upper and lower bearings and races. Should I go for them, or pay much more for Genuine Yam ones?

Hello all, A few months ago I wrote on this forum about some early issues I was having with my bike. Following some of the tips I got, life was good....for a bit. Now, after giving it approximately 5 kicks, it will start with a nice purr, BUT the minute I stop giving it gas it just fizzles out. All of my electrical works though I've since changed out my battery, installed brand new spark plugs, filled it with gas... I now want to throw the bike into the ocean. What should a guy with a dwindling bank account do now? Any help is welcomed!

Hi all, I've been trying to remove the engine on my Divvy today. All went well until I came to removing the bottom mounting nut. It doesn't explain it well in my manual but I assume it is a long bolt that threads through the bottom part of the engine mounting with a nut on the right han side. The nut came off easily enough but do you think I can shift the rod/bolt. If I've assumed correctly the head of the bolt is missing on my bike for some reason. Could have been sheared off I guess. If this is the case has anyone got a suggestion on how I can get it out. Cheers, Spuggy

Hi everyone, was woundering if anyone could help me. I have a 1986 Yamaha Radian YX600. There is a clank/clatter noise from the Gearbox is sounds like when I'm decelerating and dis engage the clutch. Like when I'm slowing down for a stop sign. Almost sounds like a grinding noise or something. This also happens when in neutral and Idleing! SOmetimes I can lean the bike left or right and the noise stops... Anyone have any ideas or know anything about this motorcycle as to why.? Any Info would be great! thanks alot!

Just bought a Yamaha FZ1N 2006 with only 2000 miles on the clock, so virtually brand new. I have found that the throttle response is unbelieveably jerky. Has anybody else found the same problem? Is there an alternative map for the fuel injection which resolves the problem? Does changing the exhaust improve things? Is there anyone I can contact who may be able to help? Thanks.
