Hello to all. To start, I'm not only new to this forum, but also to motorcycling as well. My first bike here is a 1986 Virago XV700. It runs fine, but needs some work. I have two questions. First, I've noticed while researching for parts, that there are 700SS's, 700CSC's, 700CS's, etc..., does anyone know how to tell which is which, as my bike did not come with a manual? Secondly, the right side air box/filter is missing from my bike, and I know that other years and/or bikes of the same year but different CC's can be interchanged. I've been looking at Ebay as one sorce for finding a replacement amongst other options. Would anyone know what year/cc's can be used wi…

I have removed the roller bearing races and cups that were on the bike. They came out the headstock with little persuasion, and new ones went in with little drama. Im stuck though. This image is of the fork assembly as it was removed from the bike, minus the bearing (roller). I assume the bit remainling on the centre shaft is the race (the pic is looking at it from the back) and that it has to be removed? What is the best way to remove it? What do I do with the seal that is on this pic? Does it go back on? I should add that the replacements are tapered roller bearings. Many thanks indeed for any and all help. It is appreciated.

  5. Hi All, New to the forum and returning to biking after 16 years - when I last serviced a bike the web wasn't around I'm looking to do a service on my bike - I've done some web searching, but can anyone recommend any online UK parts suppliers? I'm after an air filter for my 1986 Radian YX600 - already got the plugs and oil filter. Cost is preferred over performance - it's not a rocket and never will be! (and certainly not with me riding it.....) TIA

Hello, Can anyone please help? I've piled my FZ6 Fazer'06 and at present am trying to rebuild it. I'm nearing completion but I've not managed to get any UK clocks. Before I go out and spend £380 plus vat at the dealers I was wondering if anyone knew if I could get a set of european KPH clocks and get them converted and who would do it? Or would a set of R6 clocks work as I have noticed on the newer models they have a set like the R6. Many thanks in anticipation of a reply.

i also posted this in the classics section, but it seems as though it might make more sense to be here. hey guys, im new to motorcycles, and am trying to teach myself about the engine, and engines in general. heres the deal. i own a 75 xs500b. it has been running fine, but yesterday i noticed a slight backfire when i rolled off the throttle. today, it was even worse, to the point where the engine actually died when i got to work. coming home from work, i was just wondering if i was going to make it. when i roll on the throttle the engine bogs down and tries to die (or just dies). when i pull in the clutch and roll off the throttle, all of a sudden the rpm's d…

Have to confess this IS NOT my area of expertise, however i have persevered over the last ten days, and now have indicators which some times work and then not, (engine not running as yet), fuse is fine, all bulbs ok, and the black box clicks away when they work. Hello all.. Recently picked up a '74 Tx500 that needed a little love... it runs well, but the carbs need sync'd... and my major problem is that I can't find an adapter for the vacuum ports that has the right threads, etc. Does anyone have any idea of an online site to purchase such things? Hi, Just bought a 98 SR125 with 6,500 on the clock so i can get some experience on the road and pass my test and then get a real bike. Have changed the plug and the oil. Does any one know proceedure for adjusting the idle speed. There is an adjuster under the carb which i beleive has to be open 1 to 1.5 turns and there is another slow running adjuster near the choke. Even though it appears to be idling ok it does cut out sometimes so am not convinced i have set it up right. What do the 2 adjusters do? Appreciate any help as i am very new to bikes. Thanks

hey there folks, I'm newly registered and delurking - in need of some advice. I have an sr125 (1997) which following a simple carb strip (crud in the fuel) and rebuild is sounding a bit funny. I'd got the engine running and warm, and was adjusting idle speed (screw in side of carb ~1.25 turns out from fully in), pilot screw (1.5 out) etc, and then gave her a rev up. Cue much rattling from the top end, so I stopped the engine, and when it was cool found that the inlet valve adjuster lock nut had come loose and worked its way to the top of the adjuster. So, I adjusted the valves, rotating the engine to TDC on the compression stroke and setting the gaps, tight…

My XS400DOHC passed its MOT today but there was one problem which the examiner noted. The rear (drum) brake is uneven. Presumably the drum is no longer perfectly circular. So, what do I do about it? My guess is that I have two options. Either fix it or replace the wheel. If I replace it, given that the chances of finding one are pretty slim, would a wheel from a SOHC model fit? Were any of those drums? My old 250 had a disc... I believe the US customs were drum rears, but a smaller wheel. Could I fit one of those?

Hello everyone, just wanted to see if anyone would have some insight into an issue that Im having with my 1989 FZR600. I bought the bike real cheap with a few sheared parts. The story was that the guys friend was doing wheelie when all of a sudden the chain snapped on it. It came through and sheared the end of the clutch release pin and shifter linkage. I have the bike running perfectly again but when its idling you can hear an intermittent clunking noise coming from somewhere in the transmission. As far as I can tell the bike goes into 1st and second gear, I havent had it out on the road yet to tell if it will go into the rest of the gears. Also, the clutch is real ha…

Hi All I'm a brand new member as I am to owning my YP125 Scooter, novice does not start to explain my ignorance! Now let me explain my problem, it was inevitable that I would get a puncture and I thought that it would be a relative easy matter to remove the rear wheel. So I have looked and decided that the exhaust needed to be removed and have done this. Now it looks to me as if I need to remove the hub centre nut and the rear brake caliper, which I hope, will allow me to then slide the wheel off and thus get the wheel and tyre to a repairer. Hopefully I will get this sorted out without doing any irreparable damage but any help would be greatly appreciated, but t…
