Help, I've had the 1987 fz600 for a couple of months now, its always run a little hot but i have noticed a big change in heat. There is steam coming from under the tank and the engine is red hot. Even the fairing is very hot to the touch after a run down the motorway. Any ideas? I have just started biking again after 8 years and i dont remember any bikes running this hot before. I believe the engine is air cooled, looks pretty dirty around the top of the engine, not leak onto the floor but oil present around the top. Also thr oil light keeps coming on, I filled it up with oil again last week and its coming back on already. Steve

Does anyone know if there is a manual or parts list for the later square swing arm, right hand side oil tank DT175MX. All the online stuff only shows the tube swing arm and seem to end in '81. The Clymer manual is about the same and I brought what was described as a "service manual" on disk from hbay but it is just a load of badly photocopied sheets converted to PDF and crap. Cheers.

Hi everyone. I'm frantically getting my recently acquired '97 XJ600N ready for MOT. Bike has been pretty neglected. But as well as having been neglected, some idiot mechanic (either amateur or professional) lost the anti rattle spring off of the front brake caliper . Anyone know the best online shop for such specific spares? I'll probably end up ordering it from Granby Motors in Derbyshire, but having a convenient online shop is also good. Bassman

Hi, I'm looking for a paint code for a 2001 X reg Yamaha SR125. I've been replacing the tank, mudguards etc with better second hand items but these are a slightly different shade to the originals. The code I need is for a dark metallic burgundy colour. There are at least two different shades that I know of this colour used on SR125's. The one I need is the one which is a dark burgundy and has a lighter shade of burgundy as the background circle to the wing graphic on the tank. The code I DON'T need is from the bike which is a light burgundy and uses a black background circle to the wing graphic on the tank ( I think the lighter one is called 'cocktail red'). I…

Got a 98 fazer acting up,problem is when riding slowly behind town traffic or even pulling away there is a lot of noise from front sprocket cover or the clutch cover (hard to tell)and the chain sounds like it is trying to jump off the front sprocket, also if the bike is on the centrestand the chain jumps up and down and sound like it is jumping on the front sprocket making a terrible noise,i have changed the chain and sprockets and replaced the nut and washer but still the same, chain is also tensioned proper 30-40 slack, bike rides fine changes gears fine just slow riding 10-15mph and pulling away causes this, bike has only done 10700 miles, could a stiff rear sprocket carr…

Hello all Yamaha owners I´ve got a MZ Skorpion which uses the Yam 660 engine and the rear suspension off of the FZR 600 (3HE). It´s wonderful but has one very annoying problem - the bottom spherical bearing on the suspension strut. If you don´t use your bike regularly it fills up with water and seizes, if you do use it regularly it fills up with water and wears out. A replacement with seals is £65, and I´m sorry, but that´s obscene. At 26mm, 12mm, 15mm it´s a custom size and seemingly impossible to source elsewhere. I´ve done a search of your forum and found nothing - is it not a problem on the 600? Any help/suggestions gratefully received. TIA

Hi all, I recently purchased a 1980 xs400 with about 16k on the odometer. The bike starts and runs just fine, with the exception that blue smoke flows out of the air intake when the bike is idling (probably also when moving, but its hard to tell). This mostly happens after the bike has had a chance to warm up. It does leak oil, but only a few drops at a time and I have been monitoring the oil level, which doesn't seem to be dropping too quickly. also, the idle speed which should be around 1200rpm usually sits at around 1500-1600, but will sometimes creep up to 3000rpm when the clutch is disengaged. Are all of these issues likely to be related? Any input would be g…

Hi, it's my first post, so apologies if it sucks!! I have a 2001 thundercat, and the throttle operation is pretty difficult around towns. There is no 'roll on' of the throttle, it's pretty much on or off. My loast bike zxr 400 wasnt like that at all so i guess theres something not set up right. I tried the cable adjustment nut's but it seems almost like the cable/throttle linkage is set up wrong. Is this possible or is this a characteristic of the thundercat? If anyone else had had similar issues, i'd appreciate a chat or some advice. cheers, ally

The other day, My YB100 was running as usual, All of a sudden... THWACK! Sharp shooting pain in my ankle as the bike cut out, I pulled over to inspect. Turns out my generator flywheel bolt had flown off the crank, and broken out of the casing leaving my nicely chromed Yamaha cover, In a bent and tattered state as well as snapping the thread out of the casing where the cover sat. Pushed it home and to no surprise, The woodruff key had snapped. Managed to get a new one, then fitted it, Tightened it as much as I can (With the help of someone holding the back brake and sitting on it whilst it's in gear) Gave it a kick, And it started, Although feeble. It then cut out, I reali…

Hi everyone, I have a 600 Thundercat on a S plate. I have a problem with my front calipers. Some of the pistons are jammed. It looks like the dust seals have perished and are jammed between the caliper and piston. I have ordered a new set of seals. As some of the pistons are stuck in I tried to pump them out but on piston flew out and I lost all fluid. I took the calipers off to try and blow them out with an air line but they are stuck. I have not gone back to trying to pump them out. This is my next problem. When i was trying to blow them out with the air line I took the pipe off that links each side of the caliper when I have connected them back this pipe leaks…

Hi all, I've been out riding and on a river crossing the bike stopped. After a short time it started ok again and I figured the water that was causing the problem had evaporated with a warm engine so wasn't too concerned. Since getting home I've found a bit of water in where the magneto is and there's water in the crankcase as well. I thought the covers were sealed pretty well. I was thinking maybe the seals/gaskets up around the carby, reed valves and barrel but have no idea really. Otherwise it's running fine and I've cleaned it out and changed the oil but have to sort that out as it's a long walk home if I get stuck. Any pointers here appreciated. Ta, Gordo

I need a cheaper place than bikebandit to get a piston ringset for my 1988 FZ-600. It is a 58.5mm bore size, and it is the same engine as a yx-600 radian, FJ/Xj-600 too. any help would be greatly appreciated, any known sites with stuff like this, or a known aftermarket company that makes rings cheaper than OEM

I recently purchased a 1982 XS 400 SECA. Ran ok for a couple weeks, then started to have the following problem. Jumped on it one morning to head for work, got about 3 blocks and seemed to have trouble keeping it running below 2500rpm. It finally stalled out and wouldn't restart. Pushed it home. After about 1 hour it started up fine, took it for a ride,, it did the same thing. I runs ok at first, but then starts having trouble running at low rpm and will bog down and eventually die, then wont restart till you let it set an hour. Seemed like a carb problem, So I pulled the carbs off, tore them completely down, they were full of rusty looking crud that had made its way…

hey, So I've got an '87 DT125 LC MkIII and I need to find a new indicator relay. The Haynes manual lists the part as: manufacturer Nippondenso Model 10V Wattage 21W x 2 + 3W But I can't find them anywhere (ebay, official website, some parts dealers). Anybody know what a suitable alternative would be? Cheers!
