Hi All, new to the forum, new to biking and still grinning like a fool. Need a little help though. I'm looking to replace the front brake line with braded ones but all i can find are single lines, (my bike runs one from the master cylinder down to the left brake then has a solid tube over the mudguard into the right one) should i keep with this set up or run two seperate lines, what's standard? I also want to raise the bars a little so may have to go longer than the standard hose, whatever that might be. Any help or advice is welcome. Thanks

  2. I just bought a 1986 Yamaha FZ-600. They guy told me the carbs needed to be cleanned (not rebuilt) because he forgot to drain the carbs & gas last winter & it would leak gas (he said he thought 1 or 2 of the floats were sticking). I got it home and ran it started, and ran very well, but a little rough/boggy at very low throttle openings (1/8-1/4 throtle), but did NOT leak any gas......then it died a couple of times like it ran out of gas (but had plenty of gas), now it starts and runs very well but won't idle.....(and still does not leak any gas) should I clean the carbs anyway? What should I look for?? If it runs great at 1/4-to full throttle openning, is i…

I bought 1990 XJ660 in Oct 2006 with 28,000 miles. From start had difficulty getting into neutral at lights, adjustments to clutch cable have helped, but the problem is still there. I use it daily for 48mile commute, it gets oils and filter changes, has had new clutch springs and clutch cable. now on 52,000 miles. It gets worse as the engine heats up, and I got told off on my advanced course for dropping into Neutral as I free-wheeled up to lights. It also vibrates a lot, which will be awful next week after my family planning op. When I went to my usual garage about the vibes they said it could be the internal drive chain tensioner being broke, and that a…

Mine's busted. What the OEM part no is? (and HOW MUCH!!!?) 3. Will any other model switch fit? Cheers, Nigel

Hi, the 2 allen bolts that attach the exhaust to the engine are in very bad condition and have rounded off slightly so that an allen key won't grip. There's not enough room to get a bolt remover drill bit in there because the pipe is in the way. I've tried mole grips which only just fit on the bolt and slip even if they are on as tight as I can get them. There's not enough room to get an angle grinder in there to cut a slot in the head, also the dremel won't fit to do the same thing because of the angle, although I could get a milling bit in but obviously cutting a slot that way is going to be very difficult indeed. I thought about welding a bar on to the bolt and gett…

Two nights ago I was riding down the motorway when all of a sudden the bike starts backfiring and slowing down. I get to the side of the road and it will not turn over, the battery was almost dead in the morning so I bump started. There is an electrical sound coming from under the saddle when I try to start it up, checked the fuses but they are ok. Battery dead now but will not bump start - any ideas?

  9. Hi all, I was hoping someone who might have done this could confirm: Would the side fairings (and nose) from the 1988 fzr 600 directly fit the 1988 fzr 400? I have been struggling to get hold of fairings for my '88 fzr 400 1wg 3EN1 genesis as pictured below: The following two images are of fairings for the 1988 fzr 600 and they look near identical. I am unsure if they would be a direct fit In this first picture the mount points and air vents appear in the same place as the fzr 400 In this picture the mounting points also look as if they are in the correct place I know many other parts are a direct fit between the two m…

I'm trying to remove the centre stand on my Aerox 50 to replace it. The hinge is not moving and solid in the engine casing. I have sprayed WD40 and tried hitting with hammer. I am afraid I might damage the engine casing if I hammer anymore. Do you have any suggestions on how I can remove the hinge pin from the stand Thanks Roni

Hi i have been riding a Yamaha Sr 125 for the past 5 months with no problems occuring, until today, i came into the garage and found that the key was in the ignition switich and was set to "on". the wierd thing is that no lights were showing while it was on, i turned it to off and turned it on again and go no electrics showing. due to this i thought that the battery had run flat, i placed it onto a recharger. it registered that the battery didnt need recharging, i have looked at the 20amp fuse and it is ok, the only other issue is that withing the last week is that when i would put my key into the ignition it was very stiff and wouldnt turn to on, i placed loads of 3 i…

Hi All, i've just done the headset bearings on my yb100 and it was an absolute nightmare, all the old grease had solidified and the steering was jerky so i thought cant be hard to do ( was i ever wrong ) i didn't realise all the bearings were loose so clever old me undid the bolts and took out the bottom yoke on my freshly hardcored hard standing not funny to watch all these little balls falling between the hardcore, after about 2 hours carefully moving rocks to find the little beggars i finally got them all cleaned up and regreased in place, i was going to go to the local bike shop and buy new ones but as per they had no stock, anyway got it all back together about ha…

I've checked out the previous posts and most people have problems with elderly XJ's that wont rev. Mine is fine, with a definate kick at 7000 rev/min however, at low engine speeds, say below 2500, sometimes the engine seems to bog down and doesnt like pulling away from junctions. I get around this by riding quickly, but really want to get it sorted. I have not had the bike long and the previous owner "Cleaned and balanced" the carbs. This from somebody who bought a new seat cover rather than swingarm needle rollers. Could it be as simple as poor vacuum/air leaks? Where's the best place to start? EDIT: I found tonight that a previous owner has junked the air filte…

Hello all. I've got a bit of bother at the moment with the gear shift on my 2001 R6 at the moment. The gears change OK when the bike is cool but if the bike gets really warm the it becomes really awful to shift gears. It's clunky as hell and requires quite of decent pull / push on the gear selector to get it to shift. Trying to get the flippin thing into neutral is almost impossible. It'll go from second and clunk heavily straight down into first. Try going the other way and it's the same story going straight through neutral and into second Any ideas what might be causing this??
