Hiya, newbie here, I've had my bike a couple of months, I think the guy who had it before was a bit of pratt and botch-job merchant. I just took the tank off my xj600 to see why it was dripping oil when hot, wnadered if anyone could help. OK, firstly the oil drippage was from the where the 'drain hose from the left side of the air cleaner housing' should be, but on mine theres no hose, the oil just drips right out of the stubby tube that pokes out. When I took the filter out, there was oil in bottom of the air box, what I can't work out is how it got there. When I disconnected both the tubes that come out of a t-shapes piece that comes out of the bottom of …

Hey, I have a 1974 DT360 that has been my most reliable bike for a long time, but it recently has been bogging down when put under load (ect. small hills) and when the throttle is applied. I have been able to get over the bog by shifting down and getting in the higher revs of a lower gear, but it is kind of difficult to do when you're going up a hill. I've tried soaking the carb in carb cleaner for a day or so, but that has only made it idle funny. When I stop it, the idle gradually increases until it hits the rev limiter or the red line. I've run out of ideas, so please help. Thanks

I have a fun 1981 yamaha xs 400 but just recently when I turned over the ignition there were no lights or any power going to the bike. Thinking there was a blown fuse, I checked the fuse box and it looked rusted out. I moved around some fuses (which all were in good shape) and that didn't seem to help. I then tapped on the fuse box and the ignition turned on. Thinking this was fixed, I rode it around and when I came to my first stop the bike lost power again. Tapped on the fuse box, got power, came to a stop, lost power. I'm thinking something is wrong with a connection or the fuse box is crapped out. Has anyone have these type of problems before? I sea…

my xs 400 with 4k miles is fouling plugs almost as soon as I put a new one in. I think the last new ones lasted 20 miles. I went through the carbs already 5 times. Last time I put in new stock size jets. I have turned the air screws out to where they are almost coming out. should i get leaner jets?

Hi All an update on the speed saga, i thought i'd have one last try sorting the bike out before i set it alight lol, phone a mate and he said check the 2 gaskets on the head and barrell, did this and found there was no gasket between the barrell and the block, luckily i have some paper gasket so made one, anyway i took the barrell off and checked that and found 4 gouges in the cylinder each one about 1.5mm deep and some scoring on the piston, even a non mechanicaly minded person like me knows this aint good, by luck i have a spare barrell and piston from another engine, is there anything i should check before putting it all back together, i've given the barrell a…

Hello all! I've had my H reg TDR250 from new and has only covered 5700mls(i know it's a waste). I've now got a problem with the ignition! It starts fine on choke and will tick over but if i rev it(about 6000revs) up it seems to cut out and can see this on the rev counter as the needle drops straight down and once the rev drop abit the needle kick back up when the engine starts firing again. I've changed the coil and this has not cured it. I would be greatfull for any help as i'm now just scratching my head

hi everyone. took my rear wheel off last week to change the brake shoes and noticed that on my swingarm there it has rusted (almost completely through) on the upright support that connects to the monoshock, ive had a look on ebay for a replacement arm but they seem to be few and far between (not to mention expensive) so it looks like i will have to repair it as best i can. i have basic knowledge of welding, but is there any specific measures i need to take to patch up the swingarm? (seems to be thin) regards Steve

I have recently bought a Dt125 R 2001 2 stroke, which I am having trouble with. When I bought the bike it was in a pretty poor condition but the engine seemed to run ok. I have been running the bike daily and it had really poor acceleration and bottoms out at 55 mph I have checked the air filter, changed the oil, clutch plate and cable and also fitted the correct spark plug (as some fool was using the wrong one). Also changed the oil settings, as it was really drinking oil and checked the boost valve settings. The bike seems to run better and is quicker, but I still don't think its as quick as it should be and still bottoming out at less than 60mph A friend of mine see…

XT125X Top End? Hey guys, i bought yammy XT125X about 1 month ago. The problem I am having with the bike is that it flys to 40mph. Then as soon as I am in 4th gear looking to get from 40-55mph it just wont go. It appears to be a total lack of power. The max i have had out of it is 52mph and it struggled alot getting there. I have read posts saying people have got there's to 70mph... why can mine only barely reach 50mph??. Its done 500miles... also i read somwhere it could be a speedo fault is that a possibilty?. Any help would be much appreciated cheerse.

I posted a similar topic in Classics, but now realize this may be the correct place. I've acquired a 73 CT3 175 that's been stored dry under a house for the last 30 years. I have lots of experience with 4-stroke bike and quad engines, mechanicals, etc., but not much 2-stroke. Any suggestions on the best way to bring this back to life? I will rebuild the carb, clean the gas tank, check the oil pump, oil the cylinder and piston and try to get some oil into the bearings... but what am I missing? Do reeds present any problem with this long time storage? Do clutch friction plates degrade over time? I've never brought something that's been asleep this long back t…

Hi all, First off, a big thank you to JimR, mervin and all the others that have helped me thus far. I finally got my bike running yesterday after replacing the studs, bolts and washers as advised. As for the spark plug problem, you got to love Super Steel epoxy weld. That stuff is suuupper strong! Here comes the problem now. The bike doesn't idle. And there is an excess oily residue coming from the exhaust. I can put this down to either too much oil in the mix, or not enough fuel i guess (both really the same i suppose). Making the mixture harder to burn and therefore not run well. I have tried to adjust the oil pump, but haynes tells me that the carburetor, when at…

Hi, I've noticed on my SR125 that there is a problem with my headlight. Sidelight setting is fine, then I move the switch to dipped headlight and it doesn't get any brighter, but full beam works fine. Any ideas? A friend suggested charging my battery, which is fine I'll just have to buy a charger first. Is it likely to be anything other than a battery in need of a charge? I've had no other signs of flat battery, its starts easily and runs fine. Many thanks, Chris.

Hi All, My wife has just past her CBT so I bought her an old (97) SR125 that is in need of some TLC, so whilst trawling ebay I found another non runner (93 version with lots of new bits on) and snapped it up with the plan of swapping all the good bits on to my wifes and scrapping the rest. However...... being inquisitive, I decided having never really played around with engines before, that I would like to get it running again as a mini project. The issue is that the engine turns over but will not fire. The 'Story' from the previous owner was that he filled it up with fuel on the way home and it cut out a couple of miles after, He managed to re start it but t…
