Hi, Am restoring a 1980 DT250 and cannot find a oil tank... until I do (and am guessing I won't) am running on pre mix 2 stroke at around 20 to 1. (have also disabled the oil pump). No sure if this is the correct ratio - but working on the premise that more is better especially as I've just replaced the piston and rings. Is this mix OK - any suggestions? Thanks Mark

Wot it says up there, really. '91 SR125 3MW, managed to get the cap open using screwdrivers and spoons and stuff, but the lock is a rivetted jobby so I resorted to drilling it all to buggery. Now I can open it with anything but it doesn't look pretty and any chav scum can piss in the tank when it's parked up, which wouldn't endear me to the prospective daughter-in-law (it's her bike). I've wandered round the interwebs looking for a replacement, but nothing has leapt out at me so far, not even on the devil's own auction site... So .... anyone got one of these (with key) lying in their shed? I have a reasonable amount of portraits of Her Majesty that can be traded …

Where do the most 'canny' among you buy your supplies of well known rust prohibitor and bike embalming potion--ACF50, I've had a look around and noticed that the 'product' is sold in containers that look 'back-street' i.e. extremely easy to replicate, you/we could could be buying any old pish (quite literaly), are there any 'authentification' (spell-check.com) marks for example, and how much do you pay?

Hi If anyone has a pre-div XJ600 instrument cluster in bits, I need to know the resistance of R12 on the circuit board (the big blue resistor), mine has burnt out and knocked out the revcounter(regulator/rectifier problem). Would appreciate if someone could measure this so I can replace it. Cheers P

One final problem I need to sort out. The kick start won't engage first time. I've had the cover off and hav e check the shaft, gear, spur gear and spring which all seem to be fine. The kick lever returns back to the top so I know the spring is working. What I have to do is flick the kick start a few times by hand, once I feel it engage, then I have to keep pressure on it, place my foot onto it then kick the bike over. Is there something that's worn or missing that would cause the start not to engage? The spur gear does slide back and forth on the end of the shaft, but I don't know what's supposed to move it into position. Can anyone help?

Hi everybody - was wondering if anybody can shed light on a query I have. I have a 96 Yamaha Yzf750R. It's totally standard apart from scorpion can. The problem I have is with the handlebars. I find them quite uncomfortable, heavy on the wrists etc - especially in slow moving traffic. I wanna keep the bike but sometimes I wish I could fit it with straight bars or at least some that are more wrist-friendly! Any ideas folks? I dont really want to streetfighter it, but I'm open to all suggestions! many thanks.

G'day from the land of AUS, Newbe for a few dayz now and am getting dessparate, my ozzy 31A model has worn out the bushes in the front forks ! Yamaha stopped makeing the bottom ones 12 years ago, but can supply the top one that fits in the alloy slider(shood fix 1/2 the problem A) Am trying to find the bottom ones that fit onto the bottom of the chrome staunchion, they are made of White Metal,& are Teflon coated, some engineers at work reckon they can be turned up on a lathe (duno about the teflon though !!) Or dose anyone know of a set of forks from some other bike that is a reasonably easy replacement for the XJ900 ? Starting to get a bit nervous not being able 2 ri…

Hi all, I have only been a member two days and i'm having trouble already. Ok Whilst riding to work this morning, I started to lose power it kind of just faded away to about 40mph. So I pulled in let it idle for a minute or so then it would rev freely and go as you would expect it. It done that same scenario about 5 times during a 25mile journey, i'm not running a standard airbox instead i've got two conical filters directly into the carbs dont know if they are jetted properly, and its defo not fuel the tank was full at the time. Help please its driving me bananas.

Hi folks - just a quickie - has anybody had any experience with running the Yam Yzf750r with no exup valve? I have seen some nice stainless headers on Evilbay that do away with the exup valve. Is there any advantage to this? or is it just a big headache? The advert says "no re-jetting required".......mmmm - dunno bout that one! what ya reckon folks? is it worth it? (my exup system is running fine at the mo - just the collector box looking a bit rusty!) - Many thanks all.

Drivin home the other night i noticed the speedo and dials wasnt lit and i found out that the headlight wasnt working either when it was on low beam, but if i put full beam on the headlight would turn on and so would the dials, but soon as i put on the standard beam it was a very very dull light from the headlight and the dials never even lit, so im guessing its just a blown bulb its an electrical fault?

Hi newbie here, Just bought Yamaha XS500D, when I picked it up it started fine off the button, but it was just fresh off the charger. the next three or four starts went well after that I didin't use the choke as I thought you dont need to use it when its warmed up so it had to be 'persuaded' to turn over. So basically after some failed starts (on the button) I had to kick start the thing, ever since it is a bit tempremental and has cut out on me twice (coming up to roundabouts and lights and so on). it doesn't like to idle and trys to cut out if I engage the choke whilst up and running. Questions: 1. During all my failed starting attempts have I nackered the …

Hi all, hoping you can help me with a prob I have with my thunderace, bought it last Monday and started to remove fuel tank for a small service and noticed a knocking noise from the casing behind/side of the alternator this casing has the starter shaft and the shaft the runs the alternator. I have a 7000k rev counter error code I've checked the exup value on the exhaust and it free to move so hoping so solve the problem of the knocking noise, is there a tensioner for the starter chain or is it only the cam chain that can be tensioned?? Thanks Jools
