I am wanting to fit tapered air filters (or cones) to my bike - I am still going to use the 'H-pipe' connection - but, to richen it up, someone has suggested that I change my main jet from #117.5 to #120, raise my needle height 2 positions, and then possibly raise the float level slightly. This seems to match what is said in some 'CV Carb Tuning' link which was recommended to me on this site (thanks). I just want to know if this sounds right - or would it be too much - (the needle height?) - any ideas, or specific recommendations for jet size, etc., would be much appreciated. thanks.

I've got a rough as TY 50 with no spark. I want to check the stator coils and points, but need to get the flywheel off. I'm not sure on the size of the puller I need, and have to get one ordered in to the shop (they won't refund if it's the wrong size). Yamaha dealers can't tell me the size as the bikes too old. I've measured the pitch and reckon it's 1.0 The hole is 26mm, which I guess would equate to 27mm, but am not sure Also, it's hard to see if it's reverse thread or not. Hopefully some kind expert will help me out so I can take the first (of many) steps towards getting it running again Thanks

Hi All All going to plan with my restoration of a DT250MX (1980),finished painting the engine and exhaust, new piston rings, everything polished and cleaned where needed. Boiled carb and other parts in lemon juice (without rubbers) worked a treat. reconnected the autolube set cable fitted all new pipes (clear for the one going into the carb) and bled the oil. Now getting ready to paint the front and rear fenders, which had been previously painted, paint had cracked all over, so have taken off with paint stripper. To avoid previous which would be the best type of spray paint to use, has anyone had any success/reccomendations in this. Will be painting it white. …

Hi guys, i'm new to the forum, and i really need some help with my bike. I bought this TZR 125 a few months ago, the fairing were all smashed, but it was a good runner. So we've repaired the fairings, and now it will not run properly. The first problem is that it will not start off the button, but will usually start off a bump, which is no big deal because its easy to bump. But since we've repaired and sprayed the fairings, the damn thing will not run. When its stationary on the side stand it will tick over and run, but not rev freely. But when i try to ride it it revs to about 4k and misfires and after a few seconds it will cut out completely. Ok, so.. things we…

Hi I have a 2001 dt230 which only has about 6000km on the clock, I bought it two months ago. It has had a strange vibration/rattle when you accelerate under load from low revs. As soon as the Revs build up it goes away but while its there it is very pronounced, almost like the plastic ducts leading to the radiator are shaking and slapping in the wind. Any thoughts?

Have a 53 reg tzr 50 which has been in and out of the gearage these last few weeks. Recently the temperature light has switched on within riding for 5mins however there will be journeys where this does not happen (same rev's/speed/distance, etc). Also when the bike is at a stand still it just dies, so this happens at traffic lights, zebra crossings, etc. Any help much appreciated. Thanks SB

Hi, I have a dt125lc when i start it it revs up way to high i tried to adjust the idle speed but it didn,t make any difference. I read somewhere that this problem could be an air leak but it ran fine before i took the carb off and i checked the inlet and it seems sealed. Could someone point me in the right dirrection as in what could be the problem.

Hello All, new to this forum but already have a puzzle, just bought a Virago 535. All looks ok i.e. genuine however i cant find the bikes history i know its an import to the UK in 1996. It has the additional header tank VIN numbers where they should be i.e. on the frame plus vin plate and on the engine which all match. However the code on the Vin starts 3BR- according to the haynes manual the US 1996 model has an unavailable code. Anyone know what this code relates to, all web sites i have found dont list it ? Thanks

  17. Hi Doing up a dt175, The engine I had planned on using looks like it has been full of water for 20 years. Lots of surface rust, havn't split the case yet but it looks pretty nasty, the crank won't rotate. Are engines in this kind of condition worth bothering with? Would it be better to get another worn out engine and use that? I guess what I am asking is does the corrosion present as a big issue or would any machining I need to get likely resolve the rust issue at the same time?

  18. Hi there. Just wondering how to shorten the rear springs on an XS250 - there's a pic of a red 650 bobber on the front page of a site called yamaha650club which looks like it has some sort of ring or clamp compressing the spring(?) - or is it easier to fit a different, shorter spring if I can find a match? Also, I've seen these bikes with the tapered type air filter fitted straight onto the carby, and others which have retained the 'balance pipe'(? - H shaped tube section from carb to filter) and stuck each tapered filter on the end of it, which seems like a good idea if the balance pipe (or balance tube or whatever it is) does help performance - but does it? do I need it …

Hi I am rebuilding a 81 DT175, I may need to buy a new barrel, is there differences between the years? Someone told me the had a longer stroke and therefore a different barrel at some point. Also if they are different are the heads interchangable? Thanks

Hi all I am doing up an old DT175, went to clean the rust off the pipe and it is rusted right through. I am doing this rebuild on a minimal budget, do you think if I wrapped the pipe in ceramic exhaust tape like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/JDM-Performance-Ceramic-exhaust-tape-11-meter-roll_W0QQitemZ200406739568QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2ea92c2a70#ht_1112wt_941 or some other kind of tape it would hold together? Would it stick to the rusty surface? Thanks
