Hi, I'm rebuilding the top end of my XT350 as the Clymer manual states and I'm at the stage where I've put back the camshafts, lined up the marks (T mark on rotor, camshaft end marks and caps) but when I try to turn over the engine to see all works fine the chain jumps off the sprockets thus losing the timing. It says this should be done before the chain tensioners are fitted but time and again the chain jumps the sprockets as the cam lobes come under valve spring tension. Should I just line up all the marks, then fit and adjust the tensioners and see if it's still all lining up after turning the engine over by hand - or what? Any comments and help greatly appreciated!…

  4. I had my R reg xj 600 N restricted 18 months ago, today whilst fitting a new choke cable I got a bit curious. My understanding is that the official Yamaha restrictor kit was a set of washers that sat between the Carb and the top of the engine inside the rubber seals, or is it a complete replacement set of the rubber seals? If it is the later then fine, if it is separate washers then I paid £200 for a useless piece of paper and I have been riding illegally for 18 months.

Right before I go on i have made various posts, as no one seems to read them I will make a big one I have a YZF750R 1995/6 bike with 27K on the clock Recently had new emulsion tubes fitted from factory pro (with there settings) New plugs, filter and change. Supposingly, by garage had new shims and compression fixed (thats debatable at the moment) At start up I get blue smoke and a good wiff of it too (only for a few seconds, doesnt matter if bikes cold or warm) and when throttles fully opened up on motorway... over 100+ Notice on a good run over 4-6 hrs could lose a bit of oil when checked at the end of the day. So I have read various posts rega…

hello every one! i have just brought 2 yamaha yb100's to use as racing bikes (one for my dad and one for me). i have 3 weeks to have them ready. most of the other bikes are suzuki fxr150's (150cc being the biggest 4 stroke aloude and 125cc being the biggest 2 stroke). any how.... can any one give me some advice on setting up the bike, e.g. what fork oil to run, any easy mods to do to the engine and exhaust. the problem i have is its on a budget, allowing $1000.00 to go from scratch to on the track. so far i have spent $180.00 on a r2 racing zip together racing suit, $69.00 on a fox back protector, $375.00 on the bike. not leaving a hell of a lot to spend on mods. i…

Hi.... My lad's just turned 16 and is wanting a bike. Limited funds so we are looking for a winter project but have found nothing suitable/affordable (its amazing what a spares/repair bike fetches. However, recently i brought an XT125R in bits with the aim to rebuild...make a few quid and then purchase a suitble bike for him.... The XT152R is in great condition, never been ridden - all we need to do is fit another engine and re-connect all the electrics.... I was then thinking...if all goes well rather than sell it.... is there a suitable 50CC engine that will slot in the frame? Am i barking or is this an option.... i'm not looking to do a major rebuild, just swap o…

I need a new chain on my 86 Radian, but I don't have a lot of money. I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-1990-YAMAHA-YX600-YX-600-RADIAN-O-RING-CHAIN_W0QQitemZ350075272518QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&itemid=350075272518 It is either this chain or a non-oring heavy duty chain. I haven't been able to find much, good or bad on Race-Driven chains. Anybody use one? Also, I belive my bike came stock with a non-oring. Is it really necessary to upgrade to oring?

  10. My first post - so hello everyone! I have a 1993 XTZ660 Tenere which is in great condition and has done 25K miles. I have a problem with it when it is warm. After 5 or 6 miles of running when its warmed up, if I stop, the revs and take my hand off the throttle, the revs immediately drop to zero, the bike cuts out and it won't restart until it has cooled down a bit. This happens whenever it is warmed up. Its not running hot. Its had a new battery, spark plug (gap checked), valve clearances checked, mixture and idle checked and its STILL has this problem. Any ideas? Could it be some kind of electrical issue? I am desperate! This is a lovely bike and great fun to ride…

Hi there, I live in Australia and want to buy a used V max, the 1999 model preferably. they are in my price range and not too old. can anyone tell me the way to pick the v max that has v boost over the other non v boost type, i think they only have 100 horses whilst the v boost has near 150hp. I want to fly interstate then ride it back so i dont want to get interstate just to find out its the one i dont want. any info on picking the v boost model would be great. so far all i know is that the v boost model has a slightly bigger exhaust hole, but i dont know how big it is exactly in mm so i cant compare or measure the one i look at without knowing if that …

I recently bough a DT125, the previous owner converted it for offroad use only he told me it's a "89" model However the engine and frame number are *35A021468*. In my hynes manual there is a table telling you how old your bike is from what engine number you have but the "89" number does'nt match my bike nor do the rest which range from year "88"-"96" and they all start with 3MD or 3DB. Can anyone identify my bike? Thanks

Hi Everyone, this is my first post. i have bought a XTZ660 92, it's my first bike. I tried to start it up this morning and fuel started leaking from the primary carb, i have looked in my manual and it is the overflow ( i think? ), I have found a pipe that looks like it should be one the attached to it, I just need some advice if it is the right one. the pipe looks like it goes back up towards the underneath of the fuel tank to a T junction and back down the other side towards the gear lever. Any advice would be great. Thank you Jay

I'm wondering if anybody can tell me the correct torque for the swing arm pivot bolt on a '78XS400E? I just installed bronze bushes...yah, momma.... The Haynes doesn't seem to have all this info, and I haven't yet reeived the Clymer. A service manual for the 360-400 states a torque of 36 - 58 ft. lbs. Likely the lower value is for the 360, and higher for the 400, but I'd rather not guess. Thanks, in advance.

After 20 years of non bike existance I bought an XJ600 pre-div (1990). The engine's good and I rode it half a mile round our estate before smokey heat started pouring out from under the tank - and then it packed in again. It turned out to be a manky coil. I've been all round the houses on ebay for several weeks with people sending me wrong bits and having only an hour a week to find out they don't fit, going mental as I scour the pages yet again. Anyway I now have working coils that 'look' like the ones in the Haynes (Thanks Haynes for the complete lack of part numbers). However, it struggles to start and there still seems to be a very weak spark at the plug. The fuel …

I have a 1995/6 YZF 750 R with 27K on clock New emulsion tubes in carbs and just been serviced. What I would like to know is, to do the shims on this bike are they in the same position as the valve stem seals, as it burns oil which is visible by people behind me when throttle is fully opened on motorways (100+... ) Also you see blue smoke on start up of bike for a few seconds. The reason I am asking is that it was in the garage and supposingly my carb compression was low and they said they replaced the shims etc. with several gaskets been replaced. I had oil trickling from rocker gasket which they sorted a few days ago. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
