Wondering if anyone with a XJR1300 2007 onwards model with EFI can advice if their bike runs smooth or rough on cold start? My 2009 model runs like a hairy goat at idle. She coughs and splutters with cold idle at about 1800rpm intermittently jumping to around 1500rpm and back to 1800 rpm before it smooths out after a minute or so then idles smoother at around 1100rpm. She also takes a long crank time (~3 sec) to fire when cold. Would also appreciate any advice on how to fix.

. If you ever wondered what you battery actually does . Lead-acid batteries, invented in 1859 by Gaston Planté, are the oldest type of rechargeable battery. Sulfation is one of the problems that kill batteries. Lead-sulfate is created when a battery is discharged. Then, when charged, in theory, the lead sulfate changes back to its component materials; lead, lead dioxide, and sulfuric acid. . Thus as batteries age, hard lead-sulfate forms into crystals on the surface of the electrode plates . Heat build-up from sulfation and corrosion destroys the battery’s grid. It is the grid that holds the material that produces the chemical reaction that stores and releases elec…

Hello any electrical gurus, having recently removed the engine to repair the front cylinder head on re-assembly i noticed the missing pump sound for 5 secs when the ignition is switched on. I checked the pump itself which is ok direct to a battery and the engine runs fine after i run the pump straight to a battery but then runs out of fuel in the carbs. I beleive i have located the fuel pump relay which has 4 pins. On checking i think but will re-check later 12v on 2 pins with ignition on, on another pin i buzzed it out to the fuel pump positive input, i see no voltage on this pin on the harness, on the remaing pin i see 6v for 5secs which then drops to ov. I hooked the r…

Hey everyone the headlight on my xs400 seca went out last week driving down the road and I cannot figure out why, I currently have the bucket off and the wires all splaid out I have checked every connection I can think of, I have multi metered the light socket wires and see voltage and a good ground, but no head light, I also checked the headlight switch and jumpering it gave no joy either. If I wire the light straight to the battery both filments will light up if I put positive to each on respectly. Any ideas would be super appreciated. thanks Ned Williams

  7. What kind of oil should i use for this bike? I have a manual that says "Yamalube, or two-stoke oild labeled "BIA certified for service TC-W", or alternately I could use 10w30. Can i just use regular 2 cycle oil you can find at an auto parts store?

Ello people Just wondered if anyone knows of a cheaper/better option for the oil return pipe for me old cat, I'm sure it's not actually supposed to be made from pure RUST lol! The only one i can find is on e-bay for £25! Item no.120545499880. I thought oil pipes would be the same fitting from 96 through 2000 but they say they can't garantee this so now i'm unsure! Any help appreciated! Cheers! Isn't it fun changing the Cats front sidelight bulb! lol!

Hi guys, I'm a new owner of a 93 Virago XV535. Didn't have much money and really needed another bike (had to sell old one after lost job, gotta eat!). I has 10k miles and runs great so far, mileage a little low but just prob needs a good tune. Anyway, there is only 1 big dent on it in the top gas tank. There is a '94 tank available for a reasonable price but I can't seem to find information as to whether it will fit the '93 or not. So - will a '94 top fuel tank fit a '93? Other than that, love riding the bike. Very nice to get back on the road.

right clutch is starting to slip again, now I was told ages ago that you need to use different oil than recommended in a Thunderace because of the clutch? also when in fifth gear I pull the clutch lever all the way in and it disengages but then re-engages after a few seconds is that right? or normal?

I just got a 1983 Venture Royale, and am ordering the manual soon. Would someone please tell me where the oil drain plug is located? And is the oil filter inside the engine on the lower front of the engine? Thanks for any and all help.

Hi all, I am newbie here so I hope this post goes to right place. I am going to change fork oils and I am wondering how much oil I have to put per each tube and what would be the best viscosity of fork oil in this case?

  14. Any help is welcome. I am trying to lube all the areas that mostly time and miles strip away and have done the wheel and steering bearings but I cannot figure out how to add grease to the rear pivot shaft. The owner’s manual, granted not a great resource, says apply it until it begins to show. It fails to show you were to apply it and were it will show. The last place I have to check is this area and the various rear suspension linkage connections and I am sure they are in need. Any advice is welcome. Thank you in advance. I wanted to add one more thing. If you remove the caps one either side of the bike at, what I believe is the swing-arm connection you find a large b…

Rake and Trail . In its shortest term it is merely how far away from the frame the tire is. However there is much more to it than that ... it is realted to stability and type of use The best example of extreme rake is the chopper where the tire is several feet from the frame In the real life versions you can see much of the tire is not turning the bike but falling over This also places extreme stress on the front end making traditional hydraulic bump dampening innefective . http://www.robbans-speedshop.com/images/robbans_longfork/longfork1.jpg . . . The "Legend" is the long forks were created by the 70s biker gangs to not fall over when dr…

Hi, Hopefully there is a wizz kid out there who can diagnose this problem I have:- A few months ago the thrust bearing on the clutch went so I replaced it. All has been well for a month or three then low and behold it went again. When I removed the clutch housing it was almost dry inside apart from a load of froth, (it looked absent of oil. which I thought was strange) anyway I have cleaned everything up, soaked the clutch plates in oil for a week replaced the trust bearing AGAIN! and put it all back together; - here's where the second problem arose, no matter how much I try to adjust the cable, at the clutch end and at the lever end, the clutch will not disengage,…
