Hi All, I am getting what can only be described as a rubbing/binding noise on my 02 FZS600 this is more evident around the 15-20 mph, i think (but not sure as i know noises can transmit through the frame) from the front end. I have recently replaced my front wheel bearings and have checked these and there is no movement, i keep thinking it might be my brakes rubbing but after a 30 mile ride to the office both front discs and rear discs are cool to touch and wheels spin freely. the bike has been parked up all weekend in my garage so the only thing that has changed from last week would be the added chain oiler (homemade) and my chain adjustment both sorted out yest…

Hello all, new Yamaha Enduro owner here. A couple of weeks ago I bought a 1975 DT175B from someone for $250, and considering everything mechanical and engine wise checked out great, even the engine is in top shape, I would say thats a steal. It is all titled and registered and ready to go, except one small detail: the brake light. The only real "problems" with this bike is that it is a little beat up, missing some paint here and there, pretty dirty, and of course the brake light does not work. The bike starts and runs fine, the headlight even works, but the brake light is a no go. Now, another issue is the killswitch/lights and blinkers thumb controls are totally trash…

Please forgive this posting if it is in breach of any forum ethics or codes... I have recently been contracted by a large company to locate a service provider to fulfill a uniquely fascinating requirement. On behalf of this client, I seek motorcycle restoration facilities throughout the United Kingdom, to restore a considerably sizeable fleet of imperfect motorcycles, of mixed makes and models (the majority being Yamaha), to an as-new condition. This fleet of motorcycles have been acquired from varying sources, for example, via auctions, second hand sales, etc. The client intends to utilise this large fleet of restored motorcycles in four areas; motorcycle taxis, mo…

Working on an 82 XS400 Heritage. The wiring harness needs to be replaced. I can't find part numbers on them, and need to know if any other years/models will work on the 82 XS400. I'm going to be running Pods, and will need to rejet. Can I use jets for an 82 XS650, or another bike? This would make getting them much easier as I could order from mikesxs, etc. Same thing on carb rebuild kits. Will the 82 XS650 rebuild kit work on the 82 XS400? I've compared the carb parts on CMSNL.com, and the carbs aren't identical they do share a lot of parts. Thanks In Advance!

I brought my wife's 2007 FZ 600 S2 Fazer to the UK from South Africa. This model is sold with a KPH only speedometer in South Africa. In order to get it registered in the UK, I had to fit a UK spec speedometer, which I duly did. The UK spec speedometer can show both MPH and KPH, probably to facilitate use in Europe. However, it now shows wild speed readings.50 mph shows as 82 MPH and 118 KPH!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been suggested that I need to change the speed sensor as well. Any views on this? Regards Delvin

I am restoring a 1982 DT80 (5J2 engine) which is mounted in a later (2FN) DT50MX frame. My problem seems to be that, once engine warms up after 5 or 10 mins riding (field bike) it begins to splutter, idle becomes eratic and dies on me. I had a non standard carb on, when this first happened and found that the spark plug had given up after only an afternoons riding. The carb I now have on is from a later model (12X), it runs much better, but again after 10 mins the old symptoms came back. (The plug chop showed good results both times) I have so far replaced plug, HT lead, coil, condenser and points with original (5J2 parts). Could it be ignition source coil breaking do…

hello - i recently fired up my 1973 rd 250 and noticed gas leaking out of the bottom of the carburetor. upon closer inspection, there is a nipple located on the bottom front of the float chamber with no tube attached. i have searched and not been able to find any disconnected tubes. my question is: should there be a hose attached here and, if so, to where does it connect? thanks, jc

Hi, I have recently got a Yamaha SR 125 Custom (2002 model). The bike is in lovely condition but has recently started cutting out if I open the throttle quickly from idle (hot and cold). I took it for a good long run today, stopping and starting occasionally and the problem still persists. Any suggestions would be great to hear!! Many thanks, Tom

Hi can anyone tell me why the electric start does not work? I have fitted a new battery (sealed) 6A - 12V, new main fuse (there is only one fuse on the bike or is there more). I also have added a new switch to the handle bars and a back break light bulb. When i turn the key on, the only thing that works is the fuel guage. The lights and indicators work when i start the bike (kick-start), also the indicators do not flash they just stay on, the back break light stays on but does not light up when the brake leaver is pulled. The speedometre works, the RPM (tatchometre) does not. The bikes top end is normally 50 sometimes i can get 60 wich is a bonus, but it'…

My '79 XS 400F seemed to be idling very lean. After conversing with other ancient XS 400 owners, they confirmed what I should have known- the factory idle mixture setting are very, very lean. This led to occasional popping at idle and as revs increased. Also, it did not return to idle speed as quickly as it should. I richened the idle mixture and those problems went away. the factory setting was 2.25 turns out. At 3.5, it runs like a charm. Also, I suspected that the carbs were out of sync. I made a simple manometer- clear tubing and auto transmission fluid. Get 20 feet of tubing (whatever fits the vaccum nipple on your bike) and find the exact center. Place the cent…
