I have just bought a yamaha xs 500 engine from a breaker which I am renovating. I was told it was an import but that is all I know. Does anyone know who I can contact about getting more details and info about the the engines history. Also as I understand the same engine was used in the tx. I was wondering if it was used in any more models and what the differences were in specification. I will be looking for a frame and am uncertain which other frames I can use. I am going to make some modifications to the finished bike but wanna try and keep frame and engine as original as pos so its not too much of a mishmash of bits and bobs Cheers

Hi, I am new to the forum and have just had a 1985 dt50 purchased for me as my 1st. bike. Does anyone know the height and length of the bike as I need to know if it will fit in our Focus Estate. Thanks Max.

I've been fighting through this charging system problem on my wife's bike, and it's driving me nuts. I found on some 650 forums that you can bypass the voltage regulator to find out if it's the problem. Is there a way to do this on the 400's? I've tried 2 different voltage regulators, 2 different rectifiers, and am ready to try different armatures, and field coils.

hi was just wondering if anyone who might live near me in swindon know anything about the sr250 u.s custom as I have one but cant get it to go over 50 mph not sure what might be wrong if anything I know the valves need to be sorted but have that in hand lol does anyone know what the inlet and exhaust valves should be set to ?

Hey All, I just got a 79 XS750 for my first bike and was happy to discover this site as I am sure I will need help and advice along the way. The bike runs great and needs only a little TLC for the time being. I noticed after a couple of rides that there is a very small drip of oil from the head, and judging by the color of the oil, I think I definitely need to do an oil change. I went and bought all the goodies, oil, Hiflo filter, pan, funnel etc and was about to get started when I came across a problem. The nut I need to take off to drain the oil is seized up and the walls are stripped as well. I've heard mixed things about sprays and agents to loosen a seize…

1986 wont start. it has everything except getting gas to spark plugs. I change carburetor needles, fuel filter and lines. I can choke the bike by covering the carburetors and the bike starts sputtering trying to crank but like its not receiving enough gas. I can pull out the spark plugs after trying to flood the bike and the spark plugs are dry as my gfs cooking and ideas?

Has anyone here tried that, done that, "manufactured" it? Maybe HoughMade? Are we bordering on eccentricity? Is this a sound or safe idea even for a roadside emergency?

My 1981 Yamaha XS400 needs a number of repairs and adjustments to things like intake/exhause valves and spark plug gaps. I have no technical knowledge about engines and bought the bike as a learning project. I have a haynes manual that explains all of the repairs/adjustments that need to be made, but I can't make sense of any of it because I lack any knowledge of what and where the basic parts and components are. I was looking at the Haynes "Motorcycle Basics Techbook," but I'm not sure if the information inside would apply to a bike as old as mine... any suggestions?

My dt125r will spark at times and then just stop. When it sparks it sparks for a few seconds and then stops. Does anyone know what this could be? cdi, coils etc? Any help would be good thanks

Hi Folks sorry if i sound a bit daft on here its probably cos i sumtimes am when it comes to bikes. I have a 1989 DTR125 that is currently used off road. Ive been trying to get my rear brake working. Have tried bleading it and got all the air out but still got no pressure on the pedal. i have checked the rear master cylinder and all seems no be ok i.e no split seals ect. Had the caliper off and the pads and disk are fine. The piston does not move when the caliper is off and i push the pedal so im thinking its something to do with that. The piston is pushed all the way back to the caliper and i cant seem to get it to move. Does any 1 have any ideas as to how i can get the…

CAN ANYONE HELP? I have just taken a very neglected 125r off a nephew's hands, and though I know about 1 iota about engines, felt it was a shame to let, what was actually once, a very reasonable bike, turn to scrap at the bottom of his garden. He had basically let it run dry of all fluids, allowed the battery to sulphate, flooded it, lost the keys, punctured the front tyre, rode it with a slack, very dry chain, snapped the rev cable, and basically failed to cover it up, leaving it rust in the elements. After recovering the battery to a very healthy state, purchasing 2 new keys and a new spark plug, re-filling all the fluids, and repairing the puncture, I was hoping I …

I got huge problem with my Xv 125 air filter modification. Tried to remove casing and place custom air filter (something like K&N cone) , but once custom air filter is placed I encountered some weird problems. Bike works perfectly while in idle, but when I try to accelerate, everything above 1/4 of throttle, 'chokes' the bike and it cames to stall. I can accelerate if i open 1/5 - 1/4 of throttle, but everything above it, makes RPM to drop and bike stalls.If I don't let throttle, bike turns off. My 1981 XS1100H Tach, neutral light, oil light, fuel gauge, speedo, will not light up when I turn on the key. Last year it cut out a few times but it was working when I put her away for the winter. I checked all the fuses and the starter cranks just fine. Where do I start to look for the problem?

After riding for a bit, when slowing down to stop I hear a ticking coming from the rear tire. Like soming is hitting the spokes but there is nothing there.... Any ideas?
