hey, So my bike decided to stop working over winter and am currently running through various possibilities. As past of this I discovered that the bike is wired differently to the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual. Basically the engine kill switch doesn't appear to be wired to the CDI unit as the haynes wiring diagram suggests it should. However, the bike was running fine before so I tempted to put this down to an error in the haynes manual, but I was just wondering if anyone had an alternative wiring diagram (or was sufficiently in the know)? cheers.

I put a brand new battery in the bike, and I get almost 14V across the battery terminals but then it drops off after a while. If I let it run for a while it flattens out at about 12.7V at idle, and 13V at 3,000 RPM. I'm trying to test everything out, but I'm not sure if I'm Going about it right. I have the xs360-400 PDF Manual which is incorrect on a number of things. Field Coil/Armature Tests I tested the Field Coil/Armature according to the 76-82 xs360-400 manual PDF First test:Resistance between 3 white leads (Armature) Should be 0.72 ohms +/- 10% Results: 1.0 - 1.1 ohms. According to the manual the armature wiring is likely broken, and it must be r…

Can anybody give me some advice please.

Hi all, I'm new here and would really appreciate some help. I have a '77 DT 400 that has been sitting in a mates shed for a number of years dormant. I have removed and cleaned the carby, adjusted the float level to manufacturers specs, set air mixture screw at 1 1/2 turns out, checked and cleaned fuel cock, checked reed valves and after reassembly checked for any vacuum leaks ( none found ). I have checked and renewed spark plug and after all this i still cant get the bike to idle smoothly without stalling. The bike runs quite well at anything over 2500 rpm but refuses to idle...... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I am running a 32:1 mix as the autolube system is no longer ( not sure…

I've just had my cylinder replated on my 99 WR400 and have put new piston and rings in but I cant remember how I got the front cam chain guide out so I can't see how it goes back i. It has to go in from the top because of the 'lug' half way up but it appears that the lug on the bottom will not allow it to locate? Any ideas would be very much appreciated

Hello all, I needed to take off my clutch lever off my 1978 XS400E so I can get the clutch cable out of it ... so I used my ratchet wrench to screw off the nut underneith and then worked on the top bolt which holds the lever in place, but it just kept on spinning no matter which way i turned ... Think the threads are probably messed up (bleh, it came off fine a week ago)... Anyway, whats the best way to remove that bolt ... I have a screw extractor set and a metric tap/die set, just never used them hehe ... I assume I drill a hole in the bolt and then use the extractor to take it out. Then use the appropriate tap to re-thread it? and then use the appropriat…

Hi all, I own a Dragstar Custom with a number of after market parts including a set of slash cut exhausts (i think they are Jardine - not entirely sure as they were on the bike when I bought it). They get pretty hot when running the bike and have so far caused a pretty harsh burn to my arm and have melted my girlfriend's trousers onto them. Recently my neighbour backed into the bike causing some damage to a number of parts including the exhausts. This leave me with a choice between replacing the exhausts with similar ones, or replacing them with factory standard. I kind of like the sound the customs give and accept that standard ones will not have that. However t…

hi all, has anyone had experience coverting a dt 125r to a dt 200r ? i found someone selling a big bore kit for the dt 125, ie making it 180 cc, but not sure how well it works and if the carb needs tinkering with (ie jets, etc). thought it might be bettter to buy same year 200 cc yam barrel and piston if it could fit.there used to be 125/200 trail bikes that were possibe to swop parts on, ie dt 125/175 mx, kmx 125/200, mtx 125/200 ,ts 125/200. don,t want to buy any expensive parts till i know it works ! thought about getting 2nd hand engine 125 dtr and then looking /searching for 200 top end, keep me out of mischief for a while. the 180 cc conversion is made by "athena",…

Hi All My wife is currently out in Afghan, and her Thundercat has been sat in our garage for nearly 3 months now and she's due for her 2 weeks leave. We put the Thundercat up on padock stands disconnected the battery. And most days when I'm in the garage getting my bike out I spin the wheels around a couple of times. The question is, is there anything else I should do to her before she gets home, as the first thing she'll want to do as soon as she lands is to go for a ride. I cant that it out on the road as I'm still on L plates, but I got my mod 1 booked for this week. Cheers
