  1. I'm in a dilemma and could do with some opinions... My Dragstar was running perfectly but then the electric start failed and just clicked. Once this happened the bike could be bump started so I continued to use it. After a week the bike now completely refuses to start. I've changed the plugs, checked the battery (with ignition on, all electrical features work normally), and checked the voltage regulator. If I try to bumpstart now, the bike turns maybe once or twice and then dies again. The electronic start still produces just a click and nothing more. I am led to believe that this is my starter solenoid that has gone but I would like some confirmation if possible?!…

Hi guys first post on this forum and you guessed it, its a "help me please"! This is a problem that has vexed me for a little while now, and I realy would like to find an answer. Here goes. My wife rides a 2008 XVS650 custom, that we have owned since new, I do the wrenching and this is the bike in question. According to the manual at oil change there should be 2.6 litres (3.4 quarts)of oil to replace without a filter change and 2.8 litres (3.0 quarts)with a filter change. Now, the procedure that I employ at oil change time for all of our bikes (all Yammies too) is the same. Run it up to operating temp, which usualy involves a quick ride of about ten K's or …

my friend's 1981 LC350 has been in storage for approx 3 years. It was running fine up to that point. The fuel was drained before storing. We have put fresh fuel & two stroke in, stripped carbs & cleaned all jets/passageways. Fitted new spark plugs. There is good compression & a good spark. However it will just not fire & the plugs are bone dry. Therefore for some reason fuel is just not getting through. The reed valves look ok. I am out of ideas, and just wondered if anybody could think of anything else to try. Thanks

  4. My 1975 Yamaha RD 250 worked fine when i got it two summers ago. While on a road trip my head light got dim and the engine eventually died. I let it sit for a few minutes and restarted it. At that time the headlight was bright and it worked fine, i made it the 100 miles home. However the next day i started it and it ran for about 20min and died. I tested the output going to the battery and there is not voltage going to it. I can charge the battery and the bike runs fine till the voltage drops to amount 5.5v. The local shop charges 85 bucks an hour and doesn't usually work with vintage bikes. Electrical parts for this bike costs up to 500 dollars. I am an engineeri…

Hi people, hoping someone can help. I've got a 91 J reg FZR 600 3HE. I've borrowed a dial type gauge off a friend from work and bought the 6mm adapters from morgan's web site. I've hooked it all up and started to adjust the 3 screws, 1 & 2, 3 & 4 and 2 & 3. I can get 1 & 4 in the normal scale on the dials but 2 & 3 won't go anywhere near. However, 2 & 3 are in the late valve timing or leak at intake manifold or heat riser portion of the dials. Little bit above my head at the moment. Idle is around 4k and i can't back it off. Now then, this is the first time i've attempted this so probably not doing it right. I take it you adjust the ca…

  12. was going to use this highly recommended product with a friend next week on his old Ninja tank. His tank seems to have a vent tube on the back. How should these be covered? The instructions seem to indicate using duct tape on outside holes (gas filler hole (with cap removed), petcock tube hole?). Not sure what to do as i dont want the vent tube hole to get sealed shut with the sealer. was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. here is a pic of similar tank with that tube at the top you can see:

  13. Hi there anyone. I have a problem and wonder if some one can solve it?! I have a Yamaha XS1100 - X reg and have been told that I need to replace the seals or hoses (I think they are called this) and don't know exactly what they are called or where to buy them from after hours of trailing the internet! The seals / hoses I am talking about are what run from the cylinder head and carb - four of them. Can anyone tell me what they are called and where to buy new ones please? Thanks.

I'm building an XS400 bobber and I'd like to eliminate the ignition switch and replace it with a simple on/off toggle. I have a water-proof, 50 amp switch. The ignition switch has three wires - two are obviously the heavy amperage main wires which I figure are the ones I need to wire to the switch. But, there is a smaller diameter third wire coming out of the keyed ignition switch. Any thoughts as to what I need to connect this to? The pos or neg side terminal - does it matter? Am I being too simple here assuming I can replace the keyed switch with a simple toggle? Any advise appreciated. Thanks, Rick

HELP I just purchased a fzx700 1986 the only thing wrong with her is a clutch fluid leak. I assume that air is in the system and if so will that stop the tranny from going into gear. It sounds like the tranny is going into gear the nutral light goes out but it does not move you can push the bike as if it is not in gear. HELP does anybody know whats up. Thanks

Sorry that my first post is begging for some assistance, but I don't know where else to turn. I purchased a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 400 about a month ago as my first bike, and have enjoyed it thoroughly since the day I bought it. A few days ago, the gear lever started sticking. I would down shift while approaching a stop to get back into 1st gear, and on the way down, I would press the shifter into 2nd, and it wouldn't pop back up. Admittedly, my maintenance hasn't been terribly thorough. The bike ran very well when I first got, so all I did was run some Sea Foam through it, tighten the chain, and change the oil and filter (bike has approx. 6,200 miles on it). So, to try a…

Hi this is the first time I Have posted a message so please excuse my bad manners lol. I have bought a dt125r off a friend in a state of disrepair to be polite! It was in so many pieces when I picked it up I had no trouble fitting it in the back of my micra. I've got most if it back together and I've had it running. When I started on the brakes I suddenly hit a brick wall. And that brings me to my question : How do I remove the front brake pads without destroying the metal clips that hold it in place? The caliper is off the bike and there is a little movement pads. I have removed the only bolt that I can see holding the two halves together I will add some pics w…

Just repaired a cylinder stud on my sons FS1 (1989) had the right hand side cover off but did not touch the clutch, which was working fine before the repair, however now the engine is running again fine, but the clutch is almost non exsistant. I also had the left cover off to clean up the engine and when putting it back to gether i noticed a small spring attached 2 the inside of the cover, I left the cable in place when i removed the cover and assumed this spring must connect somewhere on the crank side. There is alread a small spring the same size attached to the clutch cable mechanism. I could not find any obvious attachment point for the surplus spring so i attached i…

I am a complete mechanical novice, and have taken ownership over a very neglected DT125R, and have sought, and received help here, when I first took the bike over, under the title of "help needed", about how to begin recovering it to a road worthy state. I am now at the stage of re-fitting the carburettor I have cleaned, and after further advice,I have also replaced the reeds in the reed block. Firstly, whilst using the torque wrench, set to 1.0 for the reed block assembly bolts, as instructed in the manual, one of the bolts sheared off in the housing, and now I am worried that if I ever have to remove the reed block housing again, I am only going to have a very diffi…
